This fun competition consists of two of the three phases of full TREC, the MA (slow canter/fast walk) and PTV (obstacle/horsemanship challenge). There is no POR (map-reading) phase. Riders compete over a course of approximately 10 PTV obstacles within a set time, scoring points for each one completed. Obstacles simulate the type of challenges you could meet out hacking, for example crossing a footbridge, leading your horse across a ditch, jumping a small log, bending between poles or remounting. If you want to opt out of a particular obstacle you just stop and tell the judge before continuing. Some obstacles may specify they must be done led. Full details on how each obstacle is judged is available in the 2018 TREC GB Rulebook. Some obstacles may be adapted for use in an arena. The MA/Control of Paces phase involves riding along a marked track (usually 2 metres wide and 75 metres long around the edge of the arena) in a slow canter and a fast walk. Points are awarded according to a scoring table, 15 points per pace. Not all our classes include this phase. WHAT DO I WEAR? Safe and suitable riding clothing and footwear, no need for show jackets or cream jodhpurs. Please read the rules regarding hats and tack. HOW DO I ENTER?
