D On a cool, crisp Saturday morning nine Storm Riders braved the weather for breakfast at Eggington s Restaurant in Edmond. We headed north on I-44 (aka Hefner Speedway) past Lake Hefner and on to Hwy 74 to Hwy 33. quickly. There was a variety of menu items ordered from French Toast (best I have ever had) to hamburgers! Diane Loser commented it was one of We turned right on Hwy 33 to Broadway where we turned south to Danforth and then turned right over to Kelly. The restaurant was in the shopping center and we could park right at the front door. We arrived about 12:45pm and were seated the best breakfasts she s eaten! If you missed this ride stay tuned as this is definitely a return ride to eat restaurant! Thank you Mr. Moe for running sweep and keeping us all together. by Jerry Jarman, Safety Officer Group or Team Riding is Understanding Strategies and Techniques for riding in large or small groups. I am going to share the basic information on how and why these strategies are practiced. Road Captains or leaders: Lead Road Captain (LRC) or Leader, usually plans the ride and performs the ride briefing. They always have a reason for making the decisions that they make which are normally for safety and have the final say in matters pertaining to the ride. Sweep Road Captains (SRC) is always the last bike in the group. The pull off or emergency strategies to use should be shared in the pre-ride briefing. Ride Brief: A pre-ride briefing is important to pass information on to riders such as the route, break stops, weather, road conditions, hand signals and emergencies usually conducted by the ride leader. Hand Signals: There are some hand signals that are standard practice for example the left and right turns however the leader may use a signal that has a different meaning than what you are accustom to. You can see the hand signals 6 to 8 bikes ahead where you can t see the brake light, turn signals and or road hazards so it is extremely important to use them. Staggered Formation: This formation is the practice of staggering the bikes front to back with the first bike on the left side of the lane and the second bike a minimum of one second on the right side of the same lane. The third bike is in the left side of the lane with a minimum of two seconds of the bike directly in front of it. The main reason for the staggered formation is maneuverability without forcing another bike into oncoming traffic or off the road. Safety Responsibilities: Each rider is responsible for their passenger and their own safety! Learn the proper safety technics by taking a safety class. If you have your M endorsement on your drivers license the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has an Advanced Basic Class and Edmond Police Department offers an Advance Basic Class and a Safe Riders Class Level two. If you don t have your M endorsement on our drivers license Oklahoma State University has a two day beginners class, once the class is passed all that is required is to take the written test to obtain a M endorsement. All are excellent programs which I can personally confirm. Approximately 85% of all motorcycle fatalities include at least one of three things; Drugs, Alcohol and or people riding above their skill levels. Information obtained from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and HOG. 6 http://www.stormridersok.com.

HOT (HOG Officer Training), Alburquerque, NM - March 23 25 H.O.G. s rules have been simplified to these: NO alcohol before or during a ride W 2. Everyone must sign a waiver (members are covered by our annual waiver) and all guests must sign a waiver on the day of the event. If they refuse, they cannot go on ride. 7 http://www.stormridersok.com. 3. If there is an injury (even minor), report it immediately to H.O.G.

Dinner Ride to Cherokee Restaurant, Calumet March 18 We had 24 people, along with 21 bikes and trikes on the ride to Cherokee restaurant outside Calumet. We left from Fort Thunder at 10:38 a.m. Once we reached I-44 we stayed together for the rest of the trip. We rode on Hwy 37 all the way to Hinton, then took 281 / old 66 to 281 spur to Cherokee Trading Post and lunch. A lot of good food was consumed, along with a few pieces of pie. Barry Dethloff was Sweep and Stan Kilmer served as Mid. Thanks to all for a safe and fun ride. 8 http://www.stormridersok.com.
