Newsletter Volume 42 - Issue 10 October, 2008 Officers: President............ Monte Rans 620-327-2711 Vice President...... Jack Crossman 316-542-9937 Secretary....... Marsha Battaglear 316-721-1166 Treasurer............. Randy King 316-729-8079 Message from the Prez... Wow, what a month September has been. Our drive and eat took us to the Stuga, a cool little Swedish sandwich shop in Linsborg, where we were greeted by Cathy Carrier a local celebrity on the radio station 102.1. The food was excellent, especially the Rubens, and a great time was had by all. Upon departing we had an opportunity to get our pictures taken with Cathy and were requested to parade by the front of the restaurant with all the cars. Thanks to Jack and Murla for the evening. The following morning was the funkahana at which we had a fabulous turnout. Approximately 26 people accepted the challenge of this year s course and after all had their turns and the top 5 rerun Don C took home the first prize, must have been the smoky donut at the end of the run that did it. As always we had lots of food and great fun. The following weekend was the visit by Chuck CoW, the corvette doctor from New York. Not even the monsoonal rains that came in on Friday could keep the doctor from performing his magic and giving several corvette owners huge smiles. After 2 very long Officer at Large.........Linn Smith 316-558-8569 N.C.C.C. Governor...... Gary Jones 316-946-9320 Newsletter Editor...... Kent Michael 316-682-4403 ACCC s Web Page.. http://aircapitalcorvetteclub.com days and part of the day on Sunday approximately 18 cars had been tuned, we even did a brain transplant in the hotel parking lot on Travis s Z06. For those of you wondering if the tune was worth it, talk to any of the owners with the big smiles. Chuck did say he would be happy to return for a second time if there was enough interest. The third weekend was the Southwinds car show in Wichita where 18 club cars participated in what was probably their best show yet. Several members of the Southwinds club thanked me, as I am sure several of the members who entered were thanked as well, for the support from Air Capital corvette club. We did win the corvette club participation award which has been delivered to Don Hattan for display. I would like to thank the club members for their support for all the clubs activities. Remember the October meeting will be on the second Wednesday because of Eureka Springs and nominations for club officers will be needed soon. See you at the meeting, Monte Page 1

October, 2008 Volume 42 - Issue 10 Minutes from the September 3, 2008 ACCC Meeting The meeting was called to order by President Monte Rans at Don Hattan Chevrolet. We welcomed guests Steve & Rhonda Farritta who have an 08 and Alex & Joanne Storrie who have a 94. We also welcomed new member Bob Todd. The minutes were approved as published. We visited about the South Winds Car Show September 20th. We decided to meet at Sam s Club West at 10:15 and caravan to the show. Vice President - Jack Crossman reported that we now have 74 family memberships. Treasurer - Randy King reported that the checking account has a current balance of $884.36 and Savings is $1321.22 plus $30.00 cash. Secretary - Marsha Battaglear had nothing. Officer-at-Large - Lin Smith reported the points race has Monte Rans in 1st, Crossmans in 2nd, Kevin Mansfield 3rd, Barry Hoofer 4th, and Smiths and Snodgras tied for 5th. She also reiterated the importance of supporting the Funkhana if we want to continue having it. Governor - Gary Jones reported membership renewals are due by Nov. He spoke of car shows at Cessna Sept. 13; Osweego Sept. 27, Cruisin for Kids Oct. 12; and St. Joseph Oct. 19. See Gary for more details. Newsletter - Kent Michael stated that he is not getting pictures from members who attend events. Please remember to share your fun activities and great car finds with the club. Old Business We were reminded that the Funkhana is Sunday Sept. 20. Burgers and hotdogs will be available for a nominal price. Bring chairs and plan to spend the afternoon. We also were reminded that all accommodations for Eureka Springs should go through Kevin. Please contact him if you need to cancel or you would like a room. We want to be sure all club rooms are filled so that we do not lose any. Kevin said the hotel has all new mattresses and is getting rave reviews. The Special Olympics parade for kids was a huge success. 32 cars showed up to parade the kids with a police escort from the outlet mall through Newton. The kids were excited and grinning from ear to ear. We also had two foursomes for the charity golf tournament. The Barkers and Warrens made up one team and the 2nd team comprised of Kevin, Mike, Jim and Chris took first place in the 2nd flight. Congrats! The Tuner Day with Chuck is set. See Monte to sign up for your appointment time. A reminder went out to club members that elections for E-Board officers are in November. Two positions will be open. If interested in a position let your current E-Board officers know. Candidates run for the Board. After selection is made, the Board decides on who is in what position. You do not run for a specific position. Shirt orders should be in this week. Contact Marsha to arrange a time and place to pick those up. They will be at the October meeting if not picked up before. Mike McKee was asked to get more ACCC stickers for the windshields of our cars. New Business The club was asked if we would be interested in additional sponsorship of Special Olympics. Monte will pursue additional information as to what that would entail. There was discussion about forming a social committee. After much discussion no action was taken. We did however have volunteers who would be interested in assisting with events. Dick and Joyce Preisser once again generously offered their home as the site for the club Halloween party. The date is October 25. We will once again start in the afternoon with a Road Rally that will end at the Preisser s home. More details will be announced at the October meeting. Drive-and-eat Jack & Murla Crossman will host the drive north from the Truck Stop at 5:30 Sat. Sept. 6th Swap and Shop Several cars were mentioned: an 86 for $6500 with 100,000 miles; a yellow 76 for $11,000, a 67 Stingray convertible, and a black 04 coupe with automatic and lt. oak interior. 50/50 Pot - won by Jay Wohlgemuth Door Prize - Drawing was won by Randy Smith. The meeting was adjourned Respectfully submitted Marsha Battaglear Secretary On a personal note. Thanks to everyone who came and made the Funkhana such a huge success!!!! Everyone had a great time even though some were a bit hesitant at first. Thanks to all of you who jumped in to clean the lot and run the stations. Special thanks to Lin & Randy for getting the facility; and to Kevin & Kent for setting up the course. Thanks to Jay for getting what I forgot. (onions and cheese) Also thanks to Sarah Crigler who ran her legs off returning golf balls and frisbees all day. Because the Funkhana was so well attended (nearly double our expectations) we should be able to do it again next year yippee. Our goal is to get everyone at least two runs in next year. So practice - practice - practice. Page 2

October, 2008 Volume 42 - Issue 10 Minutes from the September 17, 2008 ACCC E-Board Meeting The meeting was held at Don Hattan Chevrolet. Lin Smith was not in attendance. President Monte Rans reported the Tuner Weekend was set and ready to go. He then went straight to officer reports. Vice President Jack Crossman had no report. First place went to Don Crigler, 2nd place to Angie Crigler, 3rd place to Greg Esping, 4th place to Monte Rans and 5th place to Russell Lemon (a non-member), last place????. Old Business Monte reported that he is continuing to check on information for a KS Mile. There was discussion about departure times for Eureka Springs. No information was available so Kent will pass it on as it does become available. As of the meeting time, there were rooms available for Eureka Springs. The club will park together at the South Winds Car Show. There is no pre-registration. New Business Kent had mentioned that we used to have an appreciation day for Don Hattan employees. Marsha and Louise discussed possible food or treat choices. A tentative date was set for January. We will bring it up to the club at the October meeting to see if we want to do this and if so at what cost. Curt Geis from South Winds is trying to get a local chapter of NCRS. If interested you must first join and become a member. See Curt if interested. We discussed the need for new canopies. We believe this was already approved by the club and need only to purchase them. Monte suggested that we get together to have a group telethon to locate rooms for the Museum caravan in 09. More information will come later. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted Marsha Battaglear Secretary Page 4
