Kannapolis is coming off a cancelled game at Augusta in which power went out at the ballpark in the bottom of the fifth, forcing the game to be called before it could be played through five innings. The Intimidators power outage came with one out in the bottom of the fifth just as Chris Comito threw a pitch to Cristian Paulino. ith the game not being official, it preserves Micker Adolfo s hit streak, which still stands at 13 games, after he went 0-for-3 in three at-bats during the first five innings of the game on Friday in Augusta. Kannapolis enters today s series against Rome looking for payback after the Braves took two of three games at Intimidators Stadium in early April during the first week of the season. Series Information All-Time Series (since 2003): Rome leads, 65-50 2017: Rome, 2-1 (of 7) In Kannapolis: Rome, 2-1 In Rome: Series tied, 0-0 Intimidating Starter: Bernardo Flores, 21, makes his seventh start of the season as he faces a Braves affiliate for the first time. He is coming off a home loss to Asheville on May 7, allowing four runs on six hits over 4.0 innings, his first loss since his season debut, snapping a streak of four straight wins. In three road games, Flores is 3-0 with a 1.83 ERA (4 ER/19.2 IP) compared to 1-2 with a 7.07 ERA (11 ER/14.0 IP). The left-hander has allowed four earned runs in each of his last two outings after giving up only one run in his two previous starts. He spun his career-long 8.0 innings in an April 27 win at akewood. He split 2016 between the AZ hite Sox and Advanced Rookie Great Falls, going 6-2 with a 3.46 ERA (25 ER/65.0 IP) in his professional debut. He made 11 starts in the Pioneer eague, going 6-1 with a 3.66 ERA (24 ER/59.0 IP). The hite Sox selected Flores in the seventh round of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of USC. One-Run Games: Rome leads, 2-0 Brave on the Bump: Ian Anderson, 19, makes his seventh start of the season and his first against a hite Sox affiliate. The first round pick is coming off of a road loss at Greensboro, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out seven over 4.0 innings. In five of his six starts, Anderson has fanned at least six batters with seven or more strikeouts in four of those outings, including a career-high eight in each of his first two starts of 2017. Anderson split his professional debut between the Rookie GC Braves and Advanced Rookie Danville Braves in 2016, going 1-2 with a 2.04 ERA (9 ER/39.2 IP) and 36 strikeouts in 10 games (10 starts) between the two classifications. Anderson is rated the No. 6 prospect in the Braves organization, per MB.com. Atlanta selected him with the third overall pick in last June s draft, signing him for $4 million. About Two Nights Ago: The Intimidators bullpen locked down the game s final three innings to pitch past the GreenJackets, 4-3, on Thursday in Augusta. After Kannapolis took a one-run lead in the top of the sixth, Alex Katz took the mound with two on and two outs in the bottom of the frame and retired Shawon Dunston Jr. to end the inning. Katz worked into and out of trouble in the seventh, inducing a 4-6-3 double play from Grant Massey to Mitch Roman to Brandon Dulin to end the inning. Ben right worked around a walk for a scoreless eight, and Mike Morrison struck out three in the ninth for the save (6) to slam the door. Trailing in the sixth, Kannapolis rallied for a pair of runs to take the lead. Micker Adolfo led off the sixth with a double and scored on Antonio Rodriguez s RBI-single to tie the game, 3-3. Two batters later, Brandon Dulin drove in Rodriguez to reclaim the lead, 4-3. Alec Hansen (2-3) earned the win, working 5 and 2/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits. He struck out four and walked two while allowing a home run only the first against him this season. Thirteenth Floor: Micker Adolfo s sixth inning double extended his career-best hitting streak to 13 games on Thursday in Augusta, going 1-4. Since April 27, he is batting.385 (20-52) on this streak to raise his average to.316 (30-95), which ranks 13th in the SA. Adolfo s 13-game hitting streak is the second longest in the league in 2017, behind Hagerstown s Nick Banks who currently owns a 15-game streak. Adolfo has five multi-hit games during this stretch, including two 3-hit games. The last Intimidators batter with a 10-game hit streak was Cody Daily, who hit safely in 14 straight games August 12-26, 2016. More Mo: Closer Mike Morrison recorded his sixth save in as many opportunities on Thursday. He owns six of the team s seven saves. The hite Sox 27th round pick in the June 2016 draft who helped pitch Coastal Carolina to the College orld Series Championship in 2016, Morrison has not allowed a run in 15 and 1/3 innings this season while striking out 23 and walking only three. He ranks tied for third in the SA in saves, and among relievers, he leads the league in lowest batting average (.061) and fewest base runners/9 IP ratio at 3.52 (6 H+BB+HBP/15.1 IP). One Run onders: ith Thursday s 4-3 win over the GreenJackets, the Intimidators improved to 8-5 (.615) in one-run games, the fourth-best record in the league behind 8-0 Greensboro (1.000), 8-3 Greenville (.727), and 10-4 Hagerstown (.714). After starting 0-4 in one-run games over the first two weeks of the year (through April 15), Kannapolis is 8-1 one-run games with the lone loss coming in a 4-3 game April 29 at akewood. The Intimidators are 3-0 in one-run games against Augusta this season. Double Trouble: The Intimidators hit into three double plays on Thursday, matching the team s high in a game this season. Kannapolis also hit into three double plays on April 13 at Hickory. aiting For the Ball To Drop: Kannapolis earned a win on Thursday despite the team s fourth 4-error game of 2017. The Intimidators matched their season high with four errors, which all previously occurred in losses on April 7 vs. akewood, April 11 vs. Rome, and April 21 vs. Hickory. Intimidating moments of the 2017 season A-Rod triples twice Designated hitter Antonio Rodriguez tripled twice on May 3, to help lead the Intimidators to a 7-4 win over the Augusta GreenJackets. Rodriguez finished the night 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored. He became the first I s batter since John Ziznewski on September 2, 2015 versus Hagerstown to triple twice in one game. The SA record for triples by an individual in a game is by George Bell of Spartanburg in 1979. Dunning done with SA Starting pitcher Dane Dunning earned a promotion to High-A inston-salem on April 28 after going 2-0 with a 0.35 ERA (1 ER/26.0 IP) and 33 strikeouts in four starts at the Class A level. He dominated his former organization on April 26, blanking the Nationals-affiliated Suns with 6.0 scoreless innings, running his streak of innings without an earned run allowed to 25. At the time of his promotion, Dunning, the No. 10 Prospect in the Sox organization according to MB.com, owned the third-lowest ERA in the Sally eague and led the circuit in HIP (0.58) and average (.143), ranks third in strikeouts, and fourth in innings. Dunning became the first Intimidators player to earn a promotion to High-A in 2017. Dunning Fans 13 at Hickory Dane Dunning, the hite Sox No. 10 Prospect entering this season according to MB.com, struck out a careerhigh 13 batters on April 13 at Hickory. The right-hander whom the hite Sox acquired from the Nationals along with ucas Giolito and Reynaldo opez in exchange for Adam Eaton on December 7, 2016, also worked a careerlong 8.0 innings. The 13-strikeout performance was the best by an individual Intimidators pitcher since Jake Cose also fanned 13 at Hickory on May 24, 2013. 2016 Moments: Five Double Plays Kannapolis turned a five double plays in a 2-1 win on August 14 against akewood, equaling the most by the team in recorded history (since 2005). Since the 2005 season, there have been 25 South Atlantic eague games where a team has turned five double plays with Kannapolis turning in three of those performances. The Intimidators also turned five double plays on July 28, 2009, against Rome and on May 12, 2010, in an 8-3 home win over Delmarva. Kannapolis is one of four SA teams with three 5-double-play games since 2005, along with Augusta, Greensboro, and Rome. The Intimidators have not hit into five twin kills since 2005. In that time, Rome has hit into five double plays four times. In South Atlantic eague history, there have only been a pair of games where a team turned six double plays: Greenville did it on August 10, 1968, and Asheville also accomplished the feat on May 27, 1996. Rodriguez first SA PO since 2014 Intimidators outfielder Antonio Rodriguez earned SA Player of the eek for July 25-31, 2016, after batting.417 (10-24) with seven RBI and four extra base hits as Kannapolis went 5-2 during the week. Rodriguez, who slashed.417/.417/.708 for the week, helped the Intimidators to the team s biggest offensive performance of the season with three hits, including a home run, in the 16-3 win over Delmarva on July 26. In that game, Kannapolis set season-highs for runs (16), hits (24), and home runs (4). Rodriguez is the second Intimidators player to earn a weekly plaudit in 2016, joining Tanner Banks who was named Pitcher of the eek for April 18-24 following his 9.0 inning complete game shutout at est Virginia on April 20. This is the first Player of the eek award winner for the Intimidators since Trey Michalczewski, June 2-9, 2014. Banks named Pitcher of the eek Tanner Banks earned South Atlantic eague Pitcher of the eek honors for the week of April 18-24, 2016. He tossed a 9-inning complete game shutout on April 20 at est Virginia in his lone appearance of the week to become the first Kannapolis Intimidators pitcher to work nine scoreless innings since 2011.
