Kannapolis was just 1-10 in series openers before yesterday s 5-0 shutout win of Lexington. The Intimidators are playing to avenge a series sweep at the hands of the Legends at CMC- NorthEast Stadium in April. Lexington leads the season-series, 5-4. On The Mound: Scott Snodgress, 22, is coming off an ERA-rising outing against Delmarva, allowing five runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings on May 13. The Stanford University product makes his eighth start and third versus Lexington this season. In his two previous starts against the Legends, Snodgress is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA (3 ER/12 IP) while holding the Legends to a.182 average (8-44). The left-hander is limiting opposing right-handed hitters to a.216 average. The White Sox drafted Snodgress in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. Lexington s Luis Ordosgoitti, 19, makes his third start of the season after joining the Legends from Extended Spring on May 2. He as struck out 11 batters while walking one in 7.2 innings so far this season. He pitched at three levels last season GCL Astros, Greeneville (APPY) and Tri-City (NYP) combining to go 2-5 with a 4.58 ERA in 12 games (10 starts). The Astros signed Ordosgoitti as a non-drafted free agent in October Last Time Out: Blair Walters took a no hitter into the sixth inning, and the Intimidators scored five early runs as Kannapolis 1-hit the Legends in a 5-0 win on Thursday. Walters (2-2) struck out nine batters while walking none over seven scoreless innings to earn the win. After plunking the first batter of the second inning, Walters retired 14 straight Legends until Delino DeShields Jr singled with two outs in the sixth inning. Bryan Blough tossed a pair of hitless innings to finish the game for Kannapolis. Kannapolis struck in the home half of the second inning on back-to-back doubles by Rangel Ravelo and Leighton Pangilinan for a 1-0 lead. The Intimidators pulled away with four more runs in the third inning. Garis Pena led off the bottom of the third with a single. Two batters later, four straight Intimidators singled as Grant Buckner, Kevan Smith, Mark Haddow and Ravelo beat up Lexington starter Nick Tropeano (2-3), who took the loss allowing five runs on 10 hits in six innings. Tropeano struck out eight with no walks. Scheduling Crunch: The Intimidators are in a stretch of playing 19 games in 17 days, including three double-headers next week (May 21, May 22 and May 25). The twin bills at Hickory on May are to make up for previous rain outs. Walters Does Work: Blair Walters retired 21 of the 23 batters faced in Thursday s 5-0 win, a one-hitter of Lexington. Walters and reliever Bryan Blough combined to allow one hit, the fewest allowed by Intimidators pitchers since Matt Wickswat, Jake Petricka and Taylor Thompson combined to no-hit the Hickory Crawdads on August 20, Raving on Ravelo: Intimidators third baseman Rangel Ravelo put together his first four-hit game of the season on Thursday, going 4-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored to help lead the Intimidators offense. Ravelo is now batting.326, ranked 10th in the SAL. His 46 hits are tied for fifth most in the league. Quick Win: Thursday s 5-0 win took just 2:04, the fastest Intimidators game this season, just edging an April 11 win over Delmarva that took 2:05. Tackling Tropeano: Kannapolis beat up Lexington s Nick Tropeano on Thursday to the tune of five runs on 10 hits in 6.0 innings, the first runs the Intimidators have scored against the Legends hurler this season. Tropeano worked 14 scoreless innings against Kannapolis until yesterday s start. He did manage to strike out eight Intimidators, and he is now tied for the league lead with 55 strikeouts.
