Comet Connection March 14, 2019 Dear Saint Pius X Family and Friends, See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the Earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance (Song of Songs 2: 11-13) It feels like we have turned the page on Winter and Spring is upon us. It has been nice the past few days to see that strange round orb glowing in the sky once again. I think everyone will benefit from some sunshine and fresh air. The Gala last Saturday evening was absolutely awesome! If you have not yet seen the event video, check it out on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/st-pius-x-catholic-school- 665401900506607/?modal=admin_todo_tour¬if_id=1535033908251278¬if_t=page_invite I want to take this opportunity to personally thank the Gala 2019 co-chairs, committee members, volunteers, and staff members who so kindly gave of their time and talents to put together such a fantastic event. I also want to express my gratitude to all the generous parents, staff members, family members, and alumni who attended the Gala. We do not yet have all the final numbers, but it is safe to say we did some good for our school! Very soon, I will share specifics about the proceeds from Gala and the important upgrades we ll be making to enhance the safety & security of our buildings and the well-being of our students. This week s school Mass was celebrated by one of our most beloved visiting priests, Father Ferris. At the heart of the Gospel this week was an important message about how to pray. In Matthew 6: 7-15, Jesus shares with his disciples a specific lesson about prayer; we have come to know this lesson as The Lord s Prayer a.k.a. The Our Father. Deacon Bob presented a very thoughtful Homily, which included a beautiful story about baseball--ask your child about this story and the fact that God has plan for all of us. This Gospel and Deacon Bob s Homily could not have been timelier as we are in the middle of Lent. The importance of thoughtful and intentional prayer cannot be overstated. And as far as God s plan: Trust in it. He is really good at what He does! *Someone once told me if you want to make God laugh, tell Him you have a plan. One week to the day after our visit from the Notre Dame cheerleaders, pep band, and Leprechaun, our students enjoyed another visit from some special Irish friends today. Dancers from the Walsh Kelley School of Irish Dancing made their annual visit to Saint Pius X today and performed an incredible show for our students and staff. Some of the dancers are current SPX students, and a couple of them are recent alumni. It is always a festive treat when the Walsh Kelley dancers stop by to share their outstanding talents and Saint Patrick s Day spirit. Sincere thanks to Colleen King (director) and our Irish dancing friends! Go raibh maith agat agus naomh sásta patrick lá! (Thank you and Happy Saint Patrick s Day!) Next Thursday, March 21, at 6:00 p.m., we will have our annual Science Fair for grades 6, 7, and 8. The Science Fair will take place in Connolly Athletic Center (gym). This is always such an exciting evening as we get to see and experience the culmination of weeks of research, experimentation, and documentation by our middle school scholars. As you enter the gym, please be seated in the bleachers. There will be a brief welcome followed by announcing the award winners for each grade level. After that, the students will move to stand next to their projects, and then everyone will have the opportunity to circulate throughout the gym to talk with the students and view their work. Please come out and enjoy this excellent evening.
Jesus said to them, I am the Bread of Life; whoever comes to me will never hunger Please remember that during Lent, our school community is participating in the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that gives us the opportunity to uphold a 40-year tradition of praying, fasting, and almsgiving to change the lives of others, which enriches our own lives. The process is simple: Use the cardboard bowl, which was sent home in your Thursday envelope last week, to collect alms (spare change). At the end of Lent, please convert your CRS Rice Bowl contributions to a check made out to St. Pius X Catholic School. *Write CRS Rice Bowl on the memo line and send the check to the school office. Our school is a great and special place because of the people in the buildings, and because of all those who consistently support and partner with us. Thank you to all of our families, and special thanks to our students, our staff, and our volunteers, for all that they do to make Saint Pius X Catholic School such an outstanding place. Many Blessings, Chris Chris Kloesz Principal Mission Statement Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic School Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic School places Christ at the center of all that we do.
