September 2017 Footloose Newsletter of the Chicago Jitterbug Club Hi my friends Well, Summer is over and is seems it went faster than any other season, ever. We have had a busy season with dance lessons, thank you, Mike & Debbe Lapina, and bringing back our Almost Annual Picnic, thank you Frank Smith for acquiring the park district space for us! We had a perfect day for the picnic and received nothing but compliments from everyone who attended. If you missed it, I am sorry but we hope to have it again next year. And we had our yearly Ice Cream Social to round out the summer! Thanks to all who helped with that. We had a wonderful dance crowd, almost 90 people, which will also help keep us solvent. We appreciate all who come out and those who purchase 50/50 Raffle tickets. That is a very important part of keeping us in the black. Thank you, thank you to all who come to the dances! Speaking of going to dances, your President took a trip to the CWCJC, complements of Slim & Arlene driving. Had a great time there and a nice conversation with President Joanne. I hadn t been there in many years and met many old friends. Also, I attended the Rollin' on the River Convention in St. Louis over Labor Day Weekend. There was a group from CJC and a larger contingence from CWCJC. I hadn t been there in about 5 years. Did lots of dancing, eating, a little gambling and a few cocktails. St. Louis has about 8 clubs, and I was told they sold out with about 500 in attendance. Made the trip with Ken Kaminski and Darlene Pellegrini, thanks to the driving of Arlene Maynard. Others in our south side group were Linda & Bob, Tony & Sally, Carol & Frank, Dave & Joanne, Marshall & Doreen, Judie C. and Dave. I hope I didn t miss anyone!! It was a great time and great dancing. Mike & Debbe did another of their wonderful demonstrations! Being welcomed at other dance clubs around the country is a nice benefit of belonging to the swing dance club community. Many states west of the old Miss have organized dance clubs; some, like St. Louis, more than one. Check out the American Bop Association website and you will find 35 other dance clubs with lots of great new friends to meet! You will only be a stranger once. The same holds true for the Bop Association Cruise. As we head into Fall, we have our Annual Open Meeting on September 23. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the Meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Hope many of you will make an effort to attend and bring ideas, praise and criticism, if any, with you!!! Don t forget our Halloween Party in October. We will be doing it a little different this year. Everyone who comes in full costume will receive a raffle ticket, as suggested by one of our members. We will have a drawing later to see who won the cash. Plans are on the way for our Annual Christmas Party December 9 th and don t forget our New Year s Eve Gala at Palos Country Club. Take advantage of Early Bird pricing! Form is inside. Hoping for a happy, healthy Fall for all of you, CJC & CWCJC Dance Party Checklist September 23 October 7 October 14 October 21 October 28 November 4 November 11 November 18 November 25 Barb CJC Justadance Party, Elks (Annual Business Meeting.
