Clubhouse News Megan Trypus, Food & Beverage Director From the President I was recently reminded that 2016 is a leap year and we all know what that means. That s right. It means political party conventions and presidential elections dominating the airwaves. It means two weeks of memorable performances and fantastic finishes at the Summer Olympic Games from Rio de Janeiro. It means the always patriotic and exciting competition of the Ryder Cup (including Great Britain) in October. And yes, it also means an extra day of golf. I was also informed that we get to add an extra second to the atomic clock this year. What a bonus. Make sure you take advantage of this special occasion. Golf course conditions are great, although we are clearly challenged by the weather and in need of some consistent rainfall to rejuvenate areas that our irrigation system cannot access. We have recently reduced the amount of fertilizer being applied to the greens and augmented the application of a growth regulator to same. This may result in some discoloration to the greens where the drainage has been installed as nutrients washout more rapidly. This should not impact the health of the greens. The intent is to create a smoother, more consistent, more playable putting surface, as the daily plant growth is minimized because of these changes. We will continue to monitor conditions and acclimate to prevailing circumstances when necessary. Please continue to enjoy all that Lake View has to offer. Course closed until 6:00 A player s ball lies on the cart path behind #8 green. His nearest point of relief is in the hedge. What should he do? ANSWER: The only option the player has, should he seek relief, is to drop the ball within one club length of the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. If that means he must drop in the hedge, that is where he must drop. The player must also take total relief. He cannot stand on the cart path after his drop. Should he drop the ball and it becomes unplayable, he would then have to take a one stroke penalty and use the unplayable lie options. In this particular case, the best option for the player may be to play the ball as it lies on the cart path. From the Pro Shop Steve Crane, Golf Professional CRANE S TIP Are those downhill lies causing you problems on #10 and #15. As you address the ball, play the ball back in your stance and set your shoulders square with the slope of the land. I usually choke up the club. Because you are creating less loft on the club face, you may hit the ball lower and farther than normal. Swing with the slope of the land. You want your club to follow the downward slope of the land so you hit the ball solid. A normal swing would come up too soon and you will hit the ball thin. ETIQUETTE It is everyone s responsibility to maintain an acceptable pace of play. Play ready golf when you can. Be ready when it is your turn. Walk or drive directly to your ball. Line your putts up while others are putting. Park carts, pull carts, and bags on the side of the green that leads to the next tee. If you have a problem with the group in front of you, call the pro shop and we will handle it.
