WHAT S HAPPENING ON THE GOLF SIDE? FRIDAY NIGHT SCRAMBLES! Most Fridays through September. Show up at the golf shop by 5:00, $3 (cash) per player, the shop will create equitable teams by handicap, play a 9 hole scramble then finish the evening in the restaurant/bar! Ladies and all players older than 70 get to play from the purple tees!! 2018 MEMBER GUEST is coming up fast!! Friday Sunday, July 20-22. Registration forms are available in the golf shop. Put this awesome event on your calendar!!! This is open to ALL members and their guests! The course will close at 6pm Friday the 20th and open Monday morning. FLAG TOURNAMENT Sunday, July 1st. 18 and 9 hole divisions! Before you tee off in your regular group at your regular time, pick up a flag from the golf shop, put $5 cash in the pot, tee off and play golf! Your flag will have your name, handicap and target score. Your target score is par plus your handicap. When you reach that number, plant your flag on the course where you took that stroke. If you finish 18 holes and haven t reached your target score, tee off on hole 1 and play until you do. The flags that are planted furthest on the course will split the pot! To qualify for the 18 hole division, please tee off before noon. For the 9 hole division, please tee off before 2:00. OREGON WOMEN S GOLF ASSOCIATION is playing here on Thursday, July 12th. Women from all over Oregon and SW Washington play an 18 hole, stroke play tournament. They shotgun start at 9am, the course will open when they are finished around 1:30-2:00. If you are interested in joining this group of ladies for future events, talk with Amy in the golf shop! RECIPROCAL GOLF!! We have a list of clubs around the Pacific Northwest who honor a reciprocal agreement with The Dalles Country Club. The list is posted in the golf shop and will be emailed for you to print out. If you want to take advantage of the reciprocal agreement, have the golf shop contact the club you want to play to arrange a time. You will only be charged the cost of a power cart to play. GOLF SHOP: HOURS OF OPERATION IN JULY Monday: 8am-2pm July 4th, closing at 4pm Tuesday, Friday: 8am-6pm Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday: 7am-6pm

WHAT S HAPPENING ON THE GOLF SIDE? NEW FAMILY TIME! Beginning Sunday, June 3rd and every Sunday after (with the exception of tournaments), we are encouraging our families to come out and golf, swim and eat!! The course is open for all members, however, after 2:00 on Sunday s, expect families to be on the course enjoying themselves (at a family pace). Make a day out of playing a few holes of golf, swimming in the pool and lunch or dinner (special kid friendly specials) in the restaurant! Bring your favorite family guests! Junior Golf Camp began Tuesday, June 26th at 9am with an orientation. The following eight Tuesday s the course will be closed for the juniors. The camp is open to all school age kids. Three, fifty-minute classes will be offered at 8am, 9am and 10am. The class each junior is in depends on their age and experience. After their class they will have options to go swimming (with an adult), have lunch and/or play a few holes. Details and registration forms are available in the golf shop, or can be emailed to you. Improved Course Marking The right side of hole #6/15 was changed from white, out of bounds to a red, lateral hazard. This means if your ball goes beyond the markers, you may play the ball as it lies or drop a ball within 2 club-lengths of where the ball crossed the hazard line adding one penalty stroke. This will speed up play, eliminate the penalty of stroke and distance and give you the opportunity to play the ball if you can find it. Something to think about: because it is not out of bounds, you may not play a provisional ball. (See Rule 27-2) USGA Tournament Handicap Adjustment This is a new USGA rule that was adopted by the PGA and we will use in our tournaments. This makes an allowance for players in senior and super senior divisions to play different tees and still compete in tournaments with an equitable handicap. For example: if the majority of the field plays the white/red tees and a few players play the purple tees, the players playing the purple tees will have adjusted handicaps. This is not the handicap listed on the handicap sheet, it is adjusted beyond that for competition. We will be using this option for the Member Guest and the Mid Columbia Amateur!

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT... Many members are curious about the board s effort to strengthen our financial situation and to accurately know whether our efforts to structure a realistic budget has proven effective. Dave Link has volunteered many hours to restructure our quick books reporting, to understand our point of sale system which tracks sales and expenditures and to develop reports that accurately inform us where we are. His effort is above the call and he consults almost daily with me, the finance committee and our bookkeeper, as well as our accountant, Sid Rowe. Surprisingly, there are still glitches in the system which must be resolved. Recently, we discovered liens still on the books from the 1970s. Balances from past years were not rolled over properly and that has now been fixed. The good news is that several loans will be paid off this summer which will improve our cash flow. We still need to watch our expenditures closely, ask members to pay dues and assessments on time and recruit new members to ensure success for the future. Beginning next month, we will be posting financial statements in the Club House for anyone who wishes to review them. If you have questions, please address them to Dave Link or the members of the Finance Committee (Rich Mays & Mike Urness) or me. Don t listen to rumors and gossip without investigating the information yourself. Board meetings are not the place to argue about interpretations of the numbers. If someone has an issue, please send it to the Finance Committee in writing so that they can respond. Thank you for your patience. This is still an ongoing process that will probably not be fully stable until next year s budget. -Steve Lawrence

MEMO FROM THE BOARD. Sponsor the benches. Seeking memorial sponsors, family sponsor or other to support the cost of the benches. Permanent sign on the benches at cost of $450.00. The signs would have the TDCC logo plus whatever you might want on the sign. Sign will be placed in the center of the benches on back rest. TDCC retains ownership of the benches, the fee supports TDCC bench program [after reimbursement]. Also one can advertise on the benches as will as their will also be a sign on each side of the sponsor sign or memorial. Any questions contact Doug Hattenhauer Proposed change to the play policy on Wednesday s Current policy: Men s Day begins at noon until dusk every Wednesday Proposal by golf shop committee: Men s Day every Wednesday from the first tee time until 2:00pm. Argument for: 98% of men s play on Wednesday s is before noon. There is an average of 3 groups that play after 2:00 Wednesday s and the course could be utilized by many more members if open play was allowed after 2:00pm. This can be revisited if the amount of men s play significantly increases. If you have any input, please send to the golf shop committee chairman, Rich Mays: rmays623@msn.com or Amy: amywilson@pga.com
