Welcome to the WCCC MGA for 2018 Welcome to MGA members for the tournament year of 2018. Our goals for 2018 will be consistent with past years along with an added emphasis on growing our membership. As a reminder, our Mission statement is outlined below. TO PROMOTE FELLOWSHIP THROUGH ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS WHICH CREATE PARTICIPATION, INTERACTION AND FRIENDLY COMPETITION AMONG MGA GOLFING MEMBERS AT WALNUT CREEK COUNTRY CLUB. The information contained in this guide was created by the MGA Board and coordinated with the staff of Walnut Creek Country Club. Our goal is to provide events that are interesting in format and more importantly, a basis for fun and fellowship. Skill levels, whether you are a scratch player or a 20+ handicap, will find a niche to make play enjoyable while providing an atmosphere of competition. As always, suggestions to improve our formats and participation level are welcome. 2018 Board Members President Vice president Membership Director Tournament Director Treasurer Secretary Past President David Harris Randy Honeycutt Caleb Palmer Henry Coffman Chris Schjetnan Caleb Hollingshead Dave Beane Included in this guide is a listing of the events, the date and time for each, and the format that will be followed for each tournament. Any necessary changes to this publication will be communicated as quickly as possible. The dates for tournaments are firm based on present information. The general rules and procedures (example-how ties are broken) for tournament play are also attached. Weekend tournament fees will not change this year ($45/$50 Majors), Thursday Night events will continue to be $25. The cost of Member/Member tournament will depend on fund raising and anticipated revenue streams. We have attempted to offer a variety of both team and individual tournament formats. Five events, based on member request, are one day events. Points for participation in an event are specified on each tournament format. Remember that you can view this information at any time by visiting the website at WWW.MGAWCCC.COM. One last note remains for your attention and help. Please remember what it was like when you first joined the club. Our new members need to feel like a valuable part of the organization. Introduce yourself and make those guys feel at home. Let s have a great year. David Harris, President 2018 MGA Tournament Guide Page 2 of 20
MGA Tournament Rules - 2018 General rules for all MGA tournament plan unless otherwise detailed in the specified tournament rule sheet. Changes are noted in BOLD. USGA Rules apply except for the following: 1. Must be a member of the MGA and WCCC handicap system to be eligible for MGA tournaments. 2. All equipment must conform to USGA rules, 14 club rule will be in effect as of 1/20/18. 3. The ball is to be played down in individual and best ball tournaments unless specified otherwise. 4. Handicaps for all tournaments will be based on USGA guidelines where applicable: Individual 100%, Best Ball 80%, Match Play 80%, and Shamble 50%. Scramble Two person 35%, three or four person - 20% 5. Improved lies will be played in all scramble tournaments and the drive for shamble tournaments. 6. Putts inside a standard grip length will be given in all scramble events; otherwise, you must hole all putts. 7. All play will be from Blue or Alternate tee boxes (Blue/White Combo only). To qualify for the Combo tee boxes, a player must be 60+ years old and have a double digit handicap. He must have established an alternate tees handicap (at least 10 scores at WCCC). The sum of age and handicap must add to 72 (The Rule of 72). Handicap adjustments based on the USGA Handicapping Guidelines Section 9-3c Players competing from a different USGA Course Rating or Tees will be in effect. Lastly, when entering a tournament, a player must play from the tees that the player normally plays no choice for tournaments. 8. All ties for net will be broken by scorecard play-off starting with the number one handicap hole and continuing by lower handicap holes until the tie is broken. Gross score ties will be broken starting on the back nine and the USGA process will be followed until winner is determined. Gross scores will always take precedence unless otherwise specified by the tournament format. 9. There will not be a one ball rule - when playing improved lies you may change balls otherwise you may only change when putting or in between holes as USGA procedures provide. 10. When playing improved lies the following will apply: - You may improve your lie one grip length no closer to the hole. - You cannot improve from lie on to the green when off the green. - You may improve position within the one standard grip length.(i.e. move from behind a tree, no closer to the hole) - You cannot improve your lie in a hazard. In a partnership, the original ball must be played as it lies and the other ball(s) must be placed as close to the original position as possible. 2018 MGA Tournament Guide Page 3 of 20
11. The goal for all tournaments will be to have approximately 12 to 15 teams/individuals in each flight. Any adjustments to flights that are required should be done within the first and last flights to balance the fields. Pay outs will be approximately 60% and 40% respectively for first and second net and gross. Gross will take precedence on ties. 12. The maximum number of players in any tournament is 144 players, with the exception of the MGA Member-Member, which will have no limit. If the tournament is a 4-man format, the maximum number of teams is 36; a 2-man format the maximum number of teams is 72, etc. 13. Sign up deadlines for tournament play is 3 p.m. two days prior to the tournament. Players must use the MGA Website for tournament entry and cancellation. The website will contain an entry in the player field when the tournament is closed. All entries after the closing deadline will be assigned waiting list status. The deadline to cancel and not be charged is 3:00 pm the day before the tournament and must be entered online. The tournament website will close at approximately 5:00 pm the day before the tournament, once closed the Golf Shop may pull from the waiting list to fill any late cancellations and/or no shows. All players must report in 15 minutes before tee time or risk losing their spot in the field. 14. All tournament entry fees will be charged through your Walnut Creek Club account. Cash will only be accepted for Day Money fees; when Day Money is part of the tournament play. 15. All tournament rulings / decisions will be made by Tournament Committee and shall be final. Tournament Committee will be composed of the MGA Board Members and WCCC Director of Golf and/or Head Professional. 16. MGA Board has the right to adjust tournament handicaps based on previous tournament scorecards of repeat winners. 17. Maximum 10 stroke handicap difference between players for all non-individual tournaments. Higher handicaps will be reduced to the 10 stroke difference. This rule does not apply to individual quota tournaments. 18. To be eligible for play in each tournament, a player is required to have played and entered into the Walnut Creek Handicap System 10 rounds in the past 12 months at Walnut Creek Country Club. All rounds must be posted 30 days prior to the tournament. Exceptions may be made for new members at the MGA Board s discretion. 19.
