Special points of interest: Next meeting August 7th 7pm Eagle River Inn Kleeba Results Thank You Letters President s Message July, 2013 Governor Scott Walker delays implementation of motor trolling rule. Gov. Scott Walker cited a lack of public input on motor trolling compromises as main reason he asked the DNR on Thursday, June 25 to delay implementation of the statewide trolling rule from 2014 to no earlier than at least 2015. Since any changes to the trolling rule will come back to the 2015 spring hearings, at the governor s request, any rule change would not occur until 2016 or later. Please get your Alliance Boat raffle tickets in to me or Jim Chamberlin by August 16 th. Our August fish outing will be held at 12 Pines on Wednesday August 14 th. July Minutes for Headwaters Directors Meeting, July 3, 2013 2 Meeting was called to order by President Bill Jacobs at 7:00pm Minutes: Motion to approve June s meeting minutes 1 st Jim H. 2 nd Louie D. Treasurers Report: BMO Checking Account Opening Balance: $27,911.72 Income: $11,099.00 Expenses: $19,152.45 Balance: $19,858.27 1 st National Bank Checking Opening Balance: $751.48 Income 0 Expenses 0 Balance $751.48 Total Balance: $20,609.75 Glenn handed out the itemized budget report and discussed some of our major expenses and revenue sources. Motion to approve the budget: Jim H. 2 nd : Louie D. RVP Report Elmer was not present. Jeff mentioned (again) that the national office still has some financial issues to resolve. Jeff explained that at a recent Regional Meeting, there was a vote not to increase salaries of national office employees. Following that vote, the national office announced they will be adding an Assistant Treasurer to their staff. At a $250/month salary. Alliance. Jim C. says Alliance raffle tickets are selling quite well. He reminded everyone how important it is to sell as many as we can as they are very profitable for the Chapter. Please note: Jim would appreciate assistance at the Vilas County Fair selling raffle tickets. It s really a lot of fun. Fair dates are August 8-11. Let Jim know if you can help: 715-479-2655 Fish Report: Dale explained we have 156 fish registered as of 7/3. Online fish registration may be a problem. Louie and some others were having some trouble with the website. It is being looked into. Docks/Boat Landings: Bob J. went out to Nine Mile Lake and put our pier in. Loyd was nice enough to let us use his truck and trailer to transport the Pier. There are bumpers on the corners of the pier saying it was donated by our Chapter. Bob also explained that the Mud Creek landing continues to show signs of traumatic use. There are still a few problems but Bob did some work on it and it s functional. Boaters are hitting it and causing it to move around. We had some discussion as to the best ways to install it next year. Youth Committee. Jim H. said last night was the first night of the fishing tips program. We had quite a large number of young people in attendance. Also, we had several new volunteers show up to help out. Newsletter: Dale reminded us that we need to try and increase the percentage of members who will take the newsletter in the electronic format. Bill J. explained we need a minimum number of members to get it in the mail in order for us to get the bulk rate on postage. Correspondence: Bill J. said we received a letter from the Friends of Lower Nine Mile Lake thanking us for the new pier. Also a nice thank you letter from the Conover Lions for our donation to their Take a Kid Fishing Program. Bill J. also received a letter and a check from Joe McCartin, a friend and fellow M.I. member. Joe had a surplus inventory of PMTT jackets that he was able to sell. He generously donated $250 of those sales to our Chapter. John Schmidt received a nice thank you letter from Tim Dobbins. Tim attends U.W. Stevens Point and is one of the students we awarded a scholarship to this year. Banquet: Joe K. let us know that we have tentatively scheduled our Annual Banquet for April 12, 2014. He has checked with the Eagle River Chamber, and there are no known conflicts at this time.. Spring Classic Report: Carol discussed the Tournaments finances, and handed out a balance sheet. Bill J. reminded us that with Jim and Carol moving on, we will need some good volunteers to assist with next year s Classic. We need someone to be in charge, although that person will be unable to fish. Please let Bill know if you are interested in helping out. Fall Classic: Bill J. explained that the Fall Classic brochures are now being printed. Carol brought the information to Hahn Printing who is creating them. Bill J. made the wise suggestion that we have a 30 minimum for the fish. Also, that we should consider changing the scoring so a large fish earns a disproportionate number of points over a smaller fish. (as they do in the PMTT tournaments). We voted on changing the minimum to 30 inches for the Fall Classic. Louis D. proposed. Bob J 2 nd. It was passed unanimously. Spring Sports show Bill J. will probably not go. If you d like to go and work the booth, let him know. We have once again been given a comp booth. Outings: The Headwaters Chapter recently participated in the M.I. Kleeba Challunge. Joe K was there and told us we had two teams entered. There were a total of 12 teams. Joe caught two nice fish! This had us in first place for a while, but another team caught two fish late and our two teams ended up in 3 rd and 4 th place. During the Challunge, Dr Loyd removed a hook from the hand of a fellow fisherman. Our next Chapter Outing will be July 13 th and our headquarters will be the Sportsman s Chalet. Old Biz: Dale P. talked about pins for members. He discussed the costs involved and how we would distribute the pins to members. 5 years, 10 th, 20 th, etc. Dale made the motion that the Chapter invest in these pins. Tom White seconded it. We voted to approve this expense. New Business: We decided to order additional hoodie sweatshirts that will be for sale at various chapter events. They really look nice and make a great gift! Donna Goldberg called. She has the original Tiger of the North. (I deduced that this was a painting). She wanted us to buy this painting, and then try to sell it or hold a raffle to raise money for the Chapter. We decided we would not be interested. Dale P. received a call from Krista Langley of the Eagle River Art Museum. They want Dale to conduct a rod building class at the museum. Doesn t think it will cost us anything. He will check into it and get back to us. Joe K. ran our first St. Germaine Flea Market booth and it was very successful. Many chapter members showed up to help and we sold over $200 worth of raffle tickets. Joe explained we had rods, reels, all kinds of tackle. We sold a lot of our sweatshirts. We are thinking of adding a ladies table with additional items to display. Next Meeting: August 7 th. Eagle Waters. 7:00;pm Motion to Adjourn: Jeff. M. 2 nd : Louie D President: Vice President: Treasurer: Secretary: Bill Jacobs Jay Hollnagel Glenn Matula Scott Samuels
