JASON GARRETT Head Coach 2011-2018 AWARDS & HONORS 2016 NFL Coach of the Year Pro Football Weekly s 2007 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year 2 NFC East Division Titles Different players selected to the Pro Bowl since 2010 for 20 a total of 44 appearances. JASON GARRETT (75-59, 8th Year) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, 2011. Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach midway through 2010. He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in each his first three full seasons as head coach (2011-13). Garrett guided the 2014 squad to an NFL-best tying 12-4 record, the club s 22nd Division title - 18th NFC East title - 31st postseason appearance and 34th playoff win. His team fought through adversity in 2015, especially on the injury front where they endured injuries to Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Orlando Scandrick amongst others, while slipping to 4-12 on the season. The team bounced back under Garrett in 2016, completing the club s largest one-season turnaround in franchise history with a nine-game difference, finishing with a 13-3 record in 2016. The record included beginning the season 0-1 and going on to win 11 straight games - the longest single-season win streak in team history. Garrett s Cowboys won their second division championship with him at the helm, while earning the NFC s top overall seed and hosting an NFC Divisional Playoff Game for the first time since 2007. He was named AP Coach of the Year for his team s 2016 accomplishments. The 2017 Cowboys finished 9-7, just missing the playoffs, but their record gave them back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2008-09. From 2007-13, when Garrett was brought on board as the Cowboys offensive coordinator, the unit finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense in five of his seven years at the helm: 2013 (10th), 2012 (6th), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd) and 2007 (2nd). The team has set single-season records in a handful of categories, including topping 6,000 net yards for the first four times in franchise history (2009-6,390; 2011-6,008; 2014-6,138 and 2016-6,027). Since his arrival in 2007, not only has the team set single-season records in numerous offensive categories, but the club s cumulative numbers for gross passing yards (39,993) and total points (3,919) represent the best totals over a 10-year span in the history of the organization while the club s 58,567 total net yards are second. H HEAD COACHES H 6 TOP FINISHES Since 2014, Jason Garrett has led the offense to the top of the rankings in several key categories: 1 st 1 st 5 th t10 th 10 th 1 Jason Rush Yards-Per-Game (136.4) Yards-Per-Rush (4.65) Rushing Touchdowns (77) Passing TD% (4.8%) Passing Yards-Per-Attempt (7.44) Garrett is the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. DIRK KOETTER (19-27, 3rd Year) Dirk Koetter was named the 11th head coach in franchise history on January 15, 2016, after serving as offensive coordinator in 2015. In his first season as an NFL head coach, Koetter led Tampa Bay to a 9-7 record, the team s most wins since 2010 and the second-most wins by any coach in their first season with the Buccaneers (Jon Gruden - 12). In his first season with Tampa Bay (2015) Koetter helped pilot one of the most successful offenses in the NFL and one of the best in team history. The team set the franchise record for total yards (6,014-357.0 pergame), while posting the second-most rushing yards (2,162-135.1 pergame), the then-second-most passing yards (3,852-240.8 per-game), along with the then fifth-most total points (342-21.4 per-game). Tampa Bay ranked fifth in the NFL in yards-per-game (375.9), fifth in rushing yards-per-game (135.1) and second in the league in rush average (4.75). It marked the first time in franchise history that the Buccaneers have finished in the top-five in total offense. Koetter joined the Buccaneers after three seasons working as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons (2012-14). Prior to joining the Falcons, Koetter spent five seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars (2007-11). Before joining the Jaguars, Koetter spent 22 years at the collegiate level, the final six as the head coach at Arizona State (2001-06). In his six seasons with the Sun Devils, Koetter led the team to four bowl games, posting a 40-34 record. Koetter s first head coaching opportunity came at Boise State where he spent three seasons (1998-2000), finishing with a 26-10 record and two consecutive bowl wins. He was a two-time Big West Coach of the Year and two-time conference champion. In 1985 Koetter worked as the offensive coordinator at San Francisco State and from 1986-88 was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Texas El-Paso. He then served as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Missouri from 1989-93 and offensive coordinator at Boston College (1994-95) and Oregon (1996-97).
