The Tallwood Tradition December 2018 http://www.tallwoodmensclub.com 2018 Board of Directors President Joe LeBlanc Vice President Bob Wahlberg Treasurer Kim Aderman Secretary/ Communications Greg Berger Handicap Joe Dura Membership Jim Bourn Co-Social Gary Greenwald Co-Social Ron Krupa Tournament Terry Ruzzo Past President Richard Potticary II The President s Corner While most of us are putting the clubs away for the off season, the new board is hard at work to ensure another successful season at Tallwood in 2019. Ron Krupa and Gary Greenwald, of the social committee, are bringing back the kickoff dinner and speaker. Terry Ruzzo has already completed the first pass of the tournament schedule. And Kim is finishing up the budget. The McDermott s are putting together a plan for course improvements that will be shared with the Men s club soon. This might not be aggressive as they would like due to the fact that will have to first tackle the monumental task of felling and removing over 200 trees from the course this month. Zach and Eric have met with us and are excited for their second season in the Pro Shop. They also are planning a few changes and will deliver those changes soon, so we can pass them along to the membership. This year we are focusing on bringing in new members and stepping up participation in our signature events. In the past few years we have seen a decline in some of these events. We re not sure why. So please, if you have any ideas or thoughts on this, I urge you to email me or any other board member, so we can work on adjustments in the off season. Have a happy and healthy off season. Joe LeBlanc President
Vice-President I am happy to serve your Club as Vice President for 2019. President Joe Leblanc and the incoming Board have great energy in planning for the upcoming season and the Tallwood Staff, after a transition year, can t wait for 2019! For the 2019 season, I would like to focus on three areas: Rules As you all know, the USGA and R&A have published significant changes to the rules of golf in eight general categories which become effective for the 2019 season. I will make every effort to convey the main rule changes and any local rule changes through the newsletter and special notifications prior to the start of our tournament season. To get started, Mike has posted a series of videos which explain the rules changes at the top of the home page on the web site. Check it out! Review the TMC Constitution Just to be sure that the Constitution is up to date and aligned with how our Club operates. Pace of play policy Let s face it; no likes this one but this policy needs to be enforced for the benefit and enjoyment of all our members. The Board is discussing improved ways to monitor and encourage a fair pace of play policy for the upcoming season. I would welcome any and all comments and suggestions. Bob Wahlberg Vice President Membership The ground outside might be as inviting as a frozen bag of peas and possibly snow covered when you read this, but the 2019 Tallwood Men s Club season at Tallwood Country Club will be here before you know it, complete with a new rules set from the USGA. Although the rules changes might add some level of confusion based on the test run given these rules at the end of the 2018 season, they should facilitate faster play and eliminate some confusion in the future. It s time to Renew for 2019! The Board decided to increase the annual membership dues by Five Dollars ($5.00) to cover the four dollar increase in GHIN fees for 2019. Therefore the 2019 TMC Membership Dues will be $180.00, but remember, there is a $20.00 savings if your renewal is postmarked before February 1. Additionally, the Tallwood Men s Club is working on a membership drive to help keep the Men s Club viable. Two of these efforts, with more to come, will be: 2
A. Any returning member who gets someone to join the Men s Club at the regular membership rate of $180 will get a refund of 25% of the annual renewal cost for each paid new member. (This offer does NOT apply to persons returning to the club after an absence of three years or less) B. Any new member who participates in nine ( 9 ) Men s Club Tournaments in 2019 will get their 10th greens fee FREE courtesy of Tallwood Country Club. (This offer ONLY applies to greens fees paid to participate in regularly scheduled weekend or holiday Men s Club Tournaments) If you have a friend or family member who is interested in joining the best Men s Club in the state, please have them visit the website, complete a new member application and send it to me. The 2019 membership renewal form is attached and is available by clicking the Join us button on the website. Please take the time to complete the entire top section of the renewal form. This is useful to ensure that we have complete contact and personal profile information for all our members. Please include your age, occupation and member since information on the application. We are making every effort to have accurate records for our white and gold tee tournament options and are looking ahead to the TMC 50th anniversary celebration in 2020. We are accepting applications for Junior and Social, as well as Regular members. Please select your membership category and forward your payment to: Jim Bourn 179 Hamilton Drive Vernon, CT 06066 Attn: TMC Membership Membership Director TMC_membership@yahoo.com Social It's that time again, looking forward to next year's calendar and to start planning our events. After a few years off from board duties, I'm back to team up with Gary to make sure your favorite social gettogethers are prepped and good to go...glad I filed away all my previous years of facts and figures, just in case! The Kick-off Dinner will be facing some changes again as we adjust to the post-yo Pro era. At this writing, it looks like we won't be getting the vendors as part of the evening, but we'll be going back to having a speaker. It's all in the works, still working on a venue, but we'll make sure it's a quality occasion. I'll start up the committee meetings in January (Gary will still be snow-birding) with last year's participants, hoping we'll see some new members join in with fresh ideas. Look here for more next month...looking forward to the 19th hole again! Ron Krupa and Gary Greenwald Cosial 3
