Prior to correct weight J Lyon rider Malan, 2 placegetter, viewed the Stewards patrol film before deciding not to lodge an objection. Correct weight was then declared. Precious Gem was slow to begin. Pretty Possum jumped away awkwardly then had to be steadied when tightened for room between Coastal Kid which shifted out and Gridhian.
Near the 300m Precious Gem attempted to improve to the inside of What A Snitz where there was barely sufficient room. As a result Precious Gem made contact with the running rail, became unbalanced and then shifted out. After passing the 200m Pretty Possum had to be steadied when tightened for room between Curragh King and Kings Palace. Approaching the winning post Curragh King when laying in, shifted in abruptly resulting in Precious Gem being tightened for room and having to be steadied. What A Snitz which was following was momentarily inconvenienced. Linda Meech rider of Royal Haunt pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR.137(a), the careless riding being that near the 600m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of What A Snitz resulting in that filly being tightened for room and having to be checked. L Meech s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight January 1, 2013 and to expire at midnight January 7, 2013 (7 meetings, 1 metropolitan, 6 provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards deemed the incident to be in the low range, taking into account Linda Meech s guilty plea, excellent record and the racing manners of Royal Haunt. Race 2 tara s hall hotel maiden plate - 1209 metres: Intruding raced wide and without cover throughout. Grimthorpe and Le Rough were slow to begin. Laiba bounded on jumping away. Apache Wing overraced in the early and middle stages and momentarily shifted out near the 800m. Near the 400m Pumatilly had to be steadied when tightened for room to the inside of Laiba (Dean Holland) which shifted in and away from the heels of Grassini when not sufficiently clear. Dean Holland was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise far greater care when permitting his mounts to shift ground in future. Intruding and Mr Furioson which were having their first starts today raced greenly in the straight. Race 3 border inn hotel motel maiden plate - 1412 metres: Prior to leaving the mounting yard Joffa Valour reared up and dislodged its rider Dean Holland who was uninjured in the incident. Both Tooloombilla and Mac Carlie were slow to begin. In the middle stages Joffa Valour and Tooloombilla overraced when the pace slackened.
Approaching the 600m Tooloombilla when overracing shifted out and took Windblast out off its course. As a result Windblast race wide without cover for the remainder of the race. L Meech rider of Nobody Gets was reprimanded for using her whip in forehand manner in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. Race 4 betfair maiden plate - 1618 metres: In the middle stages Grand Daughter overraced. Upon return to scale Andrew Mallyon rider of Smoke N Whiskey reported that the gelding hung out for the majority of the event. Bradley Vale rider of Bluedarri could offer no explanation for the gelding s poor performance today. A subsequent veterinary examination of Bluedarri revealed the gelding to have an irregular heartbeat. Mr V Proctor trainer of the gelding was notified that prior to Bluedarri racing again he must be in receipt of a veterinary certificate of soundness, including the satisfactory results of an ECG pre and post exercise. Race 5 - sportsbet.com.au top tote plus 0-68 handicap - 1618 metres: Arboreta was slow to jump away. Call On Kevin overraced in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 200m Call On Kevin when weakening was hampered when tightened for room by Love The Moment which obtained a narrow run between that gelding and Highway Princess. Jason Lyon rider of Star Bender which performed below market expectations explained that the gelding overraced in the early stages and failed to respond to his riding from the 400m. He added that he felt there may be something amiss with the gelding and questioned if the gelding was suited to the increase in distance of today s event. A subsequent veterinary examination of Star Bender failed to reveal any abnormality. Race 6 classic rock 0-62 handicap - 2124 metres: Perisher Blue and Brunette Blonde were marginally slow to begin. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion Perisher Blue when overracing got its head up when being restrained to avoid the heels of Brunette Blonde. Perisher Blue commenced to race three wide and without cover approaching the 800m and then raced wide for the remainder of the race.
Passing the 400m and until straightening Grand Dette was held up when unable to obtain clear running. Grand Dette was obliged to change course in the straight to obtain clear running. Code (NZ) layed out rounding the home turn. Dean Yendall rider of Brunette Blonde which performed below market expectations could offer no real explanation for the mare s disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination of Brunette Blonde revealed no abnormalities. Race 7 book now for echuca cup carnival bm72 handicap - 1209 metres: Hludowig was slow to begin. De Mars raced wide and without cover throughout. Some Target overraced in the middle stages. Rounding the home turn and until the entrance to the straight Covered In Class and Some Target were held up when unable to obtain clear running. Near the 200m Covered In Class obtained a narrow run between Al Jandar and Ferocious One. After passing the 200m De Mars and Al Jandar were hampered when tightened for room between Covered In Class which shifted out slightly when laying out and Some Target which shifted in slightly. Diazling had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight. Upon return to scale Andrew Mallyon rider of Al Jandar explained that in his opinion the gelding may have not been suited to today s track conditions. Race 8 cool change 0-62 handicap - 1412 metres: S Eden was penalised the sum of $200 for the raceday notification of Chad Schofield as the rider of Danish Rock. Looksmart (NZ) raced wide without cover throughout. Kenona Lass jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Danzoo was slow to begin. Near the 1200m Looksmart (NZ) when overracing had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Purple Butterfly (Kane Bradley) which shifted out. As a result Looksmart (NZ) was taken out off its course and had to be checked to avoid the heels of Hunka Reigns. Looksmart (NZ) then raced wide without cover for the remainder of the race. Kane Bradley was severely reprimanded and notified to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in future.
