Nico Dormehl 1933-2018 It is with sadness that we report past club member Nico Dormehl passed away on the 5 th of February, at the age of 85. Nico ran Comrades for BAC from 1977-1984, in which he achieved 2 silvers and 3 bronze medals. In 1970, Nico ran Comrades for Germiston Callies where he placed an overall 12 th place. Our thoughts are with Nico s family.

Some interviews following PB performances: Collen Rautenbach You have been running PB times lately, 1.) Are you attributing your PB to anything specific, training changes, diet changes, more rest etc? If so, please give some detail as to what the changes have been. Absolutely. I started following Frank s program from 2017 (well that was ¼ to ½ his program) and 2018 decided to push a little further and more of his program and what an adjustment I had to make, wow It s been an eye opener to follow a focused program and not just plod along as I have been doing. As for diet, I m still eating what I feel like, however removed a lot of the whites from my dietary intakes, such as bread, pasta, rice and the likes. Strangely enough I am trying to get at least 8 hours sleep in, so come 20:00 my toes are pulling my eyelids and I have no control over it Biggest move is the decision to change if you want to run better, faster, enjoyable, then change something and stick to it. I chose Frank s program over the 100 s of other options out there, it s supporting those who support you and knows you and wants to see you succeed if you put in the hard work. 2.) What are your PB times over, 4km, 8km, 10km, 21km, 32km, 42km, and when were they set? 1km running a hotspot at 2:57 (had to put this in here as I improved from 3:30 s per 1km in 2017 and very proud of this) 4km at BAC TT 16:40 in 2017 8km - not done the 8km TT yet but running at 34min 2018 10km 44.30 Germiston Callies - 2017 15km 1h14 at Varsity Kudus 2018 (PB by 5mins) 21km 1h38 Sarens 2017 (PB by 6mins) 32km 2h44 at Springs Striders 2018 (PB by 5mins) 42km 3h38 at Sasol Marathon 2018 (PB by 16mins)

3.) Do you have any tips or secrets that you can share with other members? I can tell you one thing Ask for help ask for advice, reach out to our club champions like Frank, Kallie, Byron etc. I have learnt so much from our best runners and I can tell you one thing, don t ever think there s a quick fix, you have to WORK HARD. Trust in the training program you decide on and stick with it as far and hard as you can. Share your achievements, even though it may seem insignificant to our club s best share it Be social about your running, hey that s why we do it right, we LOVE IT!! 4.) What is your proudest PB set and why? Proudest PB to date was last week at Sasol Marathon. Having committed to Frank s program I have set a goal late last year that I want to qualify C-seeding for Comrades and Two Oceans. This was all I was thinking about and the times when training was tough and hard the pure joy when you cross the line in a 16min Marathon PB to a comfortable sub 3h40 was unbelievable sense of accomplishment. I can tell you that some mornings sitting on the curb stone on the side of the road wondering how I am going to get home with 4km s to go made this PB the sweetest emotional and proudest of them all. I Want to thank Coach Frank for his advice and guidance still lots more to learn!

Kallie Burger You have been running PB times lately, 1.) Are you attributing your PB to anything specific, training changes, diet changes, more rest etc? If so, please give some detail as to what the changes have been. Just training. Placed more emphasis on endurance speedwork. 2.) What are your PB times over, 4km, 8km, 10km, 15km, 21km, 32km, 42km, and when were they set? - 4km: 12:34-8km: 26:52-10km: 32:48-15km: 52:42-21km: 1:15:15-32km: 2:00-42km: 2:36:01 3.) Do you have any tips or secrets that you can share with other members? You can t run PB s every day. Be patient work hard and they will come. I waited 13 years to run this fast. Work hard, and be patient. 4.) What is your proudest PB set and why? 10Km in Alberton last year. To run sub 33-minute 10km was always something I wanted to do.
