NOW FOR A WORD FROM OUR PREZ Paul Bachelor Hello all fellow horseshoe pitchers, As most of you know, Ron Kohn resigned his position as President of the MHPA effective January 15, 2016. Ron was our president for many years, and did an excellent job in serving and fulfilling his responsibilities. I have personally seen Ron at work, and have been greatly impressed on how skillfully he handles difficult and tenuous situations. Also, his primary concern is always for the pitchers, and the betterment of the sport of horseshoe pitching. His dedication and skill as MHPA President will be greatly missed. Thank you, Ron, for your excellent service to the association. As of January 15th, I have assumed the role as President, and John Stephenson has assumed the role of 1 st Vice President. The 2 nd Vice President position will be filled by election at the Spring Meeting on April 16th at Jackson. (see separate article in this Ringer Report). When you folks elected me as 1 st Vice President last fall, I was never expecting to become President. I really did not have any ambitions for the position. But here we are six months later, and I find myself precisely in that position. I m quite nervous and anxious about the undertaking of these responsibilities - I feel a little unprepared and unqualified. With that said, I would like to let you know that I m taking these responsibilities very seriously, and I plan on doing my very best to serve you and the sport to the best of my abilities. I d like to thank Ron Kohn for the unending help and support he s given me, to help make this transition as smooth as possible. Please be kind and patient as your new officers fumble their way through learning to effectively handle their new roles and responsibilities. And please feel free to contact me about any questions, concerns or issue you may have. St. Jude s Fundraising Keith Schafer A reminder that we will be holding the St. Jude s/bob Wells tournament on March 19th. If you have something to share about Bob please feel free to do so. This tournament will be held at the Jackson facility. See you there. Spring Meeting: Our spring meeting has been scheduled for April 16th. It will be held at the Jackson Horseshoe Club facility at 1:00 p.m.. All tournament director s are encouraged to attend. At this time, we will also be voting on the 2nd Vice President position. World Entry Deadline is May 16, 2016. An entry form has been included in this edition of the Ringer Report. You may also find it on the website for the NHPA. Remember if you pitch in the World, your shirt must include your name and state. Outdoor Tournaments. will start on April 30th at Mt. Morris. Hope to see you there. Page 7 RINGER REPORT

2 nd Vice President to be elected at Spring Meeting Paul Bachelor As most of you know, on January 15 th, Ron Kohn elected to step down as President of the MHPA. Per our constitution, the 1 st Vice President (Paul Bachelor) assumes the position of President, and the 2 nd Vice President (John Stephenson) assumes the position of 1 st Vice President. This leaves the position of 2 nd Vice President vacant and needing to be filled. At the spring meeting, April 16 th, to be held at the Jackson Indoor Courts at 1:00 p.m. an election to fill the 2 nd Vice President position will be held. The current term for 2 nd Vice President runs to the end of this calendar year. I encourage you to attend this meeting where you can throw your horseshoe in the pit to be considered a candidate for this position. If you have someone that you would like to nominate this would be the time to do it. If your candidate is unable to make the meeting, please obtain a note from them accepting the nomination and bring it to the meeting. All candidates can accept the nomination either at the meeting or by submitting a letter of acceptance prior to the meeting. Proposal Changes: If you want to make a change to the constitution and by-laws, you must submit a written proposal to John Stephenson by July 15th. All proposals received will then be voted on by the membership at the fall meeting. REMINDER: If you have moved, please be sure and give your new address information to Roger Higgins. REMINDER: When participating in the State Doubles on 08/13/16 or State Singles on 09/03/16 09/05/16 you must wear a shirt with your name on it. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Kerri Alderson and Terry Beagle show you can still be friends after pitching each other. What great focus you have JD Drake. Mark Burns showing Roger Higgins how to pitch a shoe.
