Villanova Victory!!! By: Caitlin McHugh Villanova does it again winning the NCAA TournamentChampionship for the second time in three seasons. With their head coach Jay Wright, and amazing players like Jalen Brunson, it is pretty easy to see how this phenomenal team won. As I mentioned, Jalen Brunson is one of the main reasons Villanova did so well in the NCAA Tournament. This gifted point-guard averaged an impressive 18.9 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. He is so skilled that he is heading to the 2018 NBA Draft. The Wildcats set a new school record this season with 655 assists which averaged more than 16 assists per game. Overall, the team assisted on 53% of their field goals this season. Speaking of assists, star player, Jalen Brunson finished his Villanova career with 432 assists, making him just the 10th Villanova player to have 100 or more assists in each of their seasons playing for the Wildcats. In all, the Villanova Wildcats are an amazing team as they close out the 2017-2018 season with a championship win. History Made By: Catherine Argentina As everyone knows, the Philadelphia Eagles won the franchise s first Super Bowl in February. Despite it being months ago, if you re a dedicated fan like me, it s still fresh on your mind. Though their line up suffered injuries that most thought would end the team s journey to the Super Bowl, they proved them wrong. Congrats Eagles! SKS Sports By: Aiden Slook The Panther Pages would like to congratulate the sports teams of SKS. Both the JV boys and Varsity girls soccer teams won the championship game making them Region I Champs. Also, our SKS JV girls soccer team had a phenomenal season, placing second in their league. Finally the SKS boys Varsity soccer team played hard making the SKS community very proud. Along with the success of the soccer teams, the girls Varsity A basketball team can t be forgotten for their win in the championship. They were also invited to the Regionals and placed in the final four. Our girls Varsity B team had an amazing season as well, making it to the semi-finals.
Importance of Community Service By:Caitlin McHugh Think of a time someone did something nice for you. How did you feel? You probably were happy that someone was kind and thought of you. Well, we also have to do our part and think of others, especially the people that need it most. So, that is why the Kids Care Club and PYM from SKS decided to take part in an Aid for Friends cook-in at their meeting. Students worked together to create the perfect meals and ready them for delivery. In the end over sixty bags were prepared and would later be delivered by volunteers to local parishioners. I am very happy that we were able to help so many people. It is very important to take part in community service because we help people around us like God wants us to. This reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a person s day so much better. Wonder Movie Review by Quinn Boyle At last New York Times bestseller, and beloved book, Wonder has been made into a movie. During this movie, we follow the life of August Pullman, who was born with a facial abnormality. When August starts school for the first time as a fifth-grader, his facial abnormality makes it hard for him to make friends; however, he eventually finds a friend in Jack Will. The book is truly brought to life through the outstanding cast and directors and we get to watch as August overcome his fears and insecurities. Noah Boat Club By: Caitlin McHugh Have you ever made something from scratch? If you have, you probably know that it leaves you with a pretty good feeling. Well, on May 11, 2018 our very own St. Katherine of Siena Noah Club, headed by Mr. Fischer, showed off their great work, when they launched their boat on the Poquessing Creek. Nick Pagon, executive director of Philadelphia Waterborne, has helped several schools make rowboats, but St. Katherine s has been the first Catholic school. Since December, eight 7th graders met weekly to build the boat they named The SKS Gucci. The boat starts as a pile of wood so the students have to learn to cut, drill, screw, hammer, nail and glue in the whole process of making it. This is an amazing accomplishment for all the Noah Club. Congrats!
It s All About the Kids!!!!!! Disney Characters - Is There a Connection? By: Joseph Smolcynski Did you ever stop and wonder if Disney characters are connected in some way? Could they be related, or be friends? Although many may believe this to be impossible; others would disagree. In digging deeper one would find that Rapunzel and Eugene, the main characters in Tangled are seen at the Coronation ceremony for Elsa, the main character in Frozen. It is the belief of some that they are there to comfort Anna and Elsa after the loss of their parents. Is this the case? If you do believe this, you might have pondered if this is the case with any of your other favorite Disney characters? Could it be that the sunken ship in The Little Mermaid is the same ship that Anna and Elsa s parents were on. Further more, could the parents of Tarzan also be the parents of Anna and Elsa as they do look a lot alike.?
