North Texas Vintage Thunderbirds, Inc. Local Chapter of VTCI T Bird News Volume 15 Issue 6: June, 2018 June 30, 2018 From the President Greetings! I hope you are having a good summer and staying cool. This is a short message because I m writing it in early June. Jan and I are going on another of what we call The Great American Road Trip. The whole family will be in Branson for Father s Day with our granddaughter who is a camp supervisor this summer. When the family goes back home, Jan and I are heading for Nashville for a week. Then it s back to Branson for a couple of nights before we go to a reunion of all my cousins in Hannibal, MO. We should be home by the 4 th of July. Speaking of July, don t forget the Yellow Rose All Ford Car Show in Arlington, July 6-8. We ll have our car in the show and hope other NTVT birds will be there. Inside this issue: President s Message 1 July 7th BBQ 1 July Meeting Info 2 Yellow Rose Info 2 June Meeting Recap 3 June Pics 4-5 Recent Car Shows 6-7 NTVT Calendar 8 Contact # s 8 Our next meeting will be July 21 at Streetside Classics in Ft Worth. Bill Stepina will host and lunch will be furnished. Happy Summer!!! Jim Young Invitation from the Martins Don t forget Walter and Delphiene have invited everyone to their annual BBQ on July 7 beginning at noon. It s a come and go kind of thing and lasts all day, so pick your time and head on out to their new place: 1751 FM 547, Farmersville! Send them an email (walmar01@verizon.net) or give them a call to let them know you plan to come. They want to make sure they have enough food for everyone and enough mix to keep the margarita machine flowing!

July Meeting Saturday, July 21 Mark your calendars for the July meeting on Saturday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Streetside Classics, 5400 Sandshell Dr, Suite 100Fort Worth, TX 76137. We always have a great time at this venue. First, we will gather in the meeting room to enjoy sandwiches and drinks (supplied by the club); then we will have our meeting, and finally we ll spend as much time as we all want drooling over the gorgeous cars on the showroom floor, all in the comfort of air conditioning! Not a bad way to pass the time on a hot July day! Watch your email for your chance to RSVP so that we know how much food to provide. More July Fun Come to The Yellow Rose! Come to the Yellow Rose Classic All Ford Car Show on Friday or Saturday, July 7-8 at the Arlington Convention Center, 1200 Ballpark Way, Arlington, 76011. The competition is open to all Fordpowered vehicles, and it s always fun to see the cars there. Our own Jim and Janet Young are signed up to display their Retro Bird. Other members may also be entered. So support them and come on out! Remember, this year, we are not having a club meeting on the day of the Yellow Rose. But we encourage all members to attend on their own schedules. There are coupons available for discounts. You ll find a discount coupon attached to the email delivering this newsletter, or you can go to the No TX Mustang Club website.

June Meeting Recap For the June, 2018, meeting, NTVT invited members of the Classic Chassis Car Club to join them for a picnic at Randol Mill Park on Saturday, June 16. Over thirty folks showed up to enjoy the good food, the fun conversations, and the awesome cars. Dom Zanella, VP of Events, chaired the meeting in the absence of Jim Young who was traveling. We also missed VP of Membership, Dave Egan who was also on the road! Dom welcomed everyone and thanked the members of The CCCC for joining us. After a motion from Brad Kershaw and a second from Mark Ibottson, the minutes of the last meeting were accepted as they appeared in the May newsletter. Tom Ossorio, treasurer, reported the club is in good financial shape. Charles Mott, member of CCCC and owner of a gorgeous 1960, indicated his desire to join NTVT and Dom welcomed him to the club. Dom reminded everyone that the Yellow Rose Classic Car Show would be July 7-8 at the Arlington Convention Center. He encouraged everyone to get out and enjoy the All Ford Show and support whatever members might be in it this year (President Jim Young and his wife Jan will be there with their Retro) even though there will be no formal NTVT meeting that day as there has been in the past. Instead NTVT will hold it s regular July meeting on Saturday, July 21st, at Streetside Classics. Also happening in July will be the VTCI International Convention in Tulsa, July 11-15. Dom asked who among the club would be going, and Brad and Bonnie indicated they would be going and taking their 1960 for it s first out-of-state drive. (They brought that car today for it s club debut the culmination of a 27-year restoration effort.) Dom also mentioned that the CTCI would be having its convention in Knoxville. Marion Herbst will be attending that convention. Dom had other reminders for the members: there will be a meeting in August at the Sam Pack Museum (8/18); the Saturday event will be the annual club participation in the Wheels for Wellness in downtown Ft Worth (9/22); and Brad and Bonnie Kershaw will be coordinating a Fall Day Cruise on November 10. Door prizes were awarded: David, from CCCC, took home a neat metal Ford sign; Jim Haney (NTVT) won a metal T-Bird sign; Charles Mott (new NTVT member) won a 57 T-Bird model; and Mike (CCCC) to home a Bath and Body Works gift package. The $65 in the 50/50 Drawing went to NTVT member, Bill Strickland. The meeting concluded and folks spent some time admiring the variety of classics in the parking lot before heading home to escape the heat.

More June Meeting Pics Friday Evening Fun The small number of NTVT members in the audience did not limit the fun on Friday evening, June 21st at the Me and My Monkey concert. Our little group had a great time! The Ibottsons and the Kershaws enjoyed pizza courtesy of the Garfields and all 6 of us enjoyed the music, courtesy of the City of Burleson. The free concerts happen every Friday evening in June at 7:30. Next year, we may try to get more of us out there! (Thanks, Mark, for the pics!)

Recent Car Show Appearances Tim Muehlberg represented NTVT very well at the Sam Pack Spring Nationals show on May 5. He took home first place in the Thunderbird category for his 04 Merlot. Way to go! Gary Sestito won Most Original at the Red Brick Veterans Memorial Car Show in Kearns, TX over Memorial Day Weekend. Congrats, Gary! Brad Kershaw, John Dulin, Gary Sestito, & John Congleton attended the Roadside Museum Car Show in Hillsboro on June 23. Nearly 300 cars entered. Brad came home with the City Manager s Choice Award for his 1960. Congrats, Brad, on the first showing of your Big Silver Bird! This last pic wasn t exactly a car show, but these NTVT members decided to visit the Salt Palace Museum in Grand Saline, TX, on May 18 as a part of the club s spring trip to Jefferson and Marshall. This picture appeared on the Salt Palace Museum Facebook page thanking the members of NTVT who stopped to see them! The museum posting said they loved seeing the cars.

Memory Care Car Show A special thanks to the members who brought out Thunderbirds for the 3rd Annual Grand Brook Memory Care Father s Day Celebration. We hope looking at these beautiful birds brought back some good memories for the patients and their families. Thanks to Betsy for sending the pics, and thanks to Tom Ossorio for being our liaison for this event. Above, David Silva and Betsy McMahon stirred up some memories of the 1960 s with their lovely tbirds. Below, Bill Strickland s bird got a lot of attention. Above, Bill Strickland s and Tom Ossorio s Birds show off their classic lines. Not a Tbird, but couldn t resist including these interesting participants who drove their hot rod in. Who says Car Shows are not Monkey Business! Above, Ben King and Jan and Jim Young displayed their Retro Birds, reminding everyone that Thunderbird beauty is timeless.
