Position Dimensions & Key Relationships Objective of Role Organisation Environment AFL Outer East POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: Netball Development Manager (Part Time) Department: Operations Date: September 2018 Location: Lilydale AFL Outer East (Formerly AFL Yarra Ranges) is a football and netball based on the Outer Eastern Border of Melbourne, covering the councils of Yarra Ranges, Cardinia, Casey, and Murrindindi. AFL Outer East is responsible for growing and developing both Australian football and Netball across the region. The Netball Development Manager is responsible for the promotion, development, and operation of various netball competitions across the AFL Outer East region. In this role the Netball Manager will also work closely with the Netball Coordinators, and the various clubs across the AFL Outer East region. In particular 1. Development of Junior Netball in the region 2. The pathway for Netballers into the higher competition 3. The development of volunteers, in particular netball coordinators and coaches 4. Role Description ADMINISTRATION Oversee the conduct of all Netball competitions Coordinate and oversee the relevant Umpire Panels Produce the Netball section of the AFL Outer East Handbook, and Annual Report. Arrange a netball calendar of events and contribute to AFL Outer East Calendar Compile a list of contacts to be included in the Handbook and maintain contacts database Call prepare for and conduct Netball Club Presidents Meetings throughout the year and produce minutes of these meetings Plan and implement meetings of secretaries, team managers, umpires, and coaches Prepare grant applications and oversee resulting programs and initiatives as required. Support the Operations Manager in the management of all netball competitions Attend and produce reports for Region meetings Oversee Netball Co-Ordinator Roles & Responsibilities Liaise with affiliated clubs, the umpires, and affiliated bodies to maintain effective working relationships Make recommendations to the Commission for rule changes and adaptations Arrange for weekly results to be processed, circulated to the media, and presented on the relevant internet sites and any issues dealt with Ensure all coaches & umpires are appropriately accredited. Run accreditation courses, if necessary Co-ordinate any coaching & umpire courses run by Netball Victoria in the area. Continually review and modify the Netball by-laws to suit current needs. STRATEGY Survey clubs, officials, and players to provide data to be utilised in the development of strategic plans and management procedure. Arrange and develop Education and Training programs identified as necessary. Implement the Future Direction of Football and Netball Initiatives Facilitate club and volunteer development in Netball. FINALS In conjunction with the Football Operations Manager, plan, and co-ordinate the Finals series In consultation with the RGM, negotiate the usage and management of venues and facilities with local council and related bodies Ensure all finals venues are in-keeping with Netball Victoria guidelines and reserved, where necessary Confirm all equipment for finals fencing (if necessary), sponsor signs, Public Address system, goal post padding, scorers tables, score boards, score sheets, umpire s room. Employ and oversee volunteers to run netball finals Compile a list of players from each club that are eligible to play finals in each grade Produce running sheet for Grand Finals Co-ordinate Netball section of Grand Final record (player profiles, photos, etc)
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS Introduce clear representative pathways for Netballers in the region. Improve the Senior Interleague Program, with the Interleague Side to represent as the best talent in our region. Develop Junior Association and representation squads that provide talent identification opportunities for talented players in our region. Manage coaching principles, code of practice, development standards, team strategies and transition through the talent pathway. Co-ordinate all Association and Inter League programs Appoint coaching and selection panel for Representative programs Establish a communication network and communicate programs, policies and procedures to relevant parties Arrange training programs as required by coaches including training venues, catering, apparel, and merchandise Co-ordinate selection of Interleague players in consultation with selectors Appoint Representative Team Sub-Committee at beginning of each season In conjunction with Representative Team Sub-Committee Co-ordinate the appointment of coaches, managers, and medical staff Co-ordinate trials & selection tournaments for Representative Team selection Co-ordinate selection of players (Open, 17 & Under, 15 & Under, 13 & Under) in consultation with selectors Arrange the necessary transport and accommodation for any representative team tournaments Co-ordinate the purchase of all Representative Team uniforms Co-ordinate Representative Team uniform presentation night for all grades Communicate Netball Victoria netball player pathways Promote local development pathways for players & umpires MARKETING & PROMOTION Market the Netball Divisions to its potential with commercial bodies through sponsorship recruitment in order to meet target budgets Liaise with media as directed for Netball Matters Contribute to the publication of the weekly football & netball Record In consultation with the RGM, maintain all current business relationships and ensure all agreed commitments relating to Netball sponsorship are fulfilled Manage promotion of Netball competitions and participants. Promote netball through weekly previews, reviews, and feature stories. Maintain a social media presence across all platforms.
Experience & Qualifications JUNIOR NETBALL Create player pathways for all clubs, through the introduction of underage Netball. Support clubs in the implementation on Net-Set-Go programs Provide divisional Netball in junior ranks for clubs with strong numbers. Work closely with local junior netball competitions within our region. Development of underage representative Programs. UMPIRING Manage the development and growth of the regions umpiring pool. Grow the capacity and number of umpires in the region improving renumeration structures, umpire education, training, and development. Support our head of umpiring to build the expertise, capacity, and depth in our umpire pool. Improve Umpire development, training, and education, offering coaching and development sessions that provide both accreditation and improvement. Umpiring development program to ensure our competitions are umpired by umpires developed within our region. Mandatory Ability to confidently and competently deliver coaching programmes, seminars, training sessions at various levels exceptional oral communication skills. Project management, planning and strong reliable, timely organisational skills. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and in particular volunteers. Strong understanding of community netball and the developmental needs of players and coaches Strong sense of accountability and desire to deliver against targets/goals High level and competent decision-making and problem-solving skills and makes decisions with the best interest of netball in mind. Excellent verbal and written communication and public relations skills. Experience and understanding of community sport environments. High level computer literacy skills. Preparedness to work extended hours including afterhours meetings and weekends. Working with Children s Victorian Drivers licence Desirable Tertiary Qualifications in Sports Management, Teaching or similar Strong Understanding of coach development and broad sporting sector knowledge/experience. Proven background or understanding in/of elite netball pathways (VNL or higher)
