President s Message It s hard to believe that the sledding season is coming to an end. Hopefully weather conditions will improve and we are able to get in a few more rides before the snow goes. We have the Memorial Ride tentatively booked for March 1st. If weather conditions don t improve, we will meet at the Clubhouse for hot dogs to remember those members who have left us. It was wonderful to see so many of you attending our Winterfest event (see report). Thank you for your support and donations to such a good cause. Many other events scheduled for the Family Day week-end were cancelled due to weather conditions. We are pleased that we were able to go ahead with ours. Our JCP project is drawing to a close, with our participants last day on February 20th. We are planning a little Open House for all of you to thank them for their participation and wish them well in their future endeavours. This will be a pot-luck lunch on the 20th, so if you are able to attend and can bring a dish please give me a call to confi rm (250-456-6806). The offi cial end date of the JCP project is March 6th, 2015. To-date the addition is 100% complete, with the exception of the wheel chair ramp. All materials to complete the wheel chair ramp have been purchased and it will be installed in the spring. I would like to especially thank Del Westfall as our Project Supervisor. His job was to keep our participants trained, busy and motivated. They have gained experience in many aspects of construction, as well as training courses that will help them in the future. On a personal note, I would like to advise you that I will be stepping down as President at the Annual General Meeting to be held on March 2nd. I have enjoyed my time on the Executive and will continue to support the Club in the future. I would like to thank the members of the Executive and Club members who have supported me over the past several years. We have a tremendous group of people in this community and I know the club will continue to grow. Winterfest - Sunday. Feb. 2015 Our Annual Poker Ride was held on Sunday, February 8th, 2015. Snow conditions were not the best, but we still had a good turn out for this fun event (32 sleds, with 34 participants). The 41 km loop took approximately 75 minutes to complete. The riders travelled through all types of conditions such as groomed trails, puddles and even a few bare patches. This event would not be possible without all the volunteers who groomed and cleared trails, gathered door prizes, manned the kitchen and registration booth. Thank you to all who worked together to make this event successful. Over 40 local merchants donated door prizes for the best poker hands. The top three poker hand winners were: Eddie Kennedy, Rosella Infante and Sandy Jamieson. Congratulations! It was nice to see the Clubhouse full of family, friends and neighbours who enjoyed the hamburgers and hotdogs, generously donated by A&W, with pop, water and condiments generously donated by Save-On Foods and Safeway. We had many compliments on our new addition of washrooms, which greatly enhance our facilities. Del Westfall did a fabulous job of selling 50/50 tickets and the lucky winner was Lyle Jones. The net proceeds of this event go to the BC Lion s Society supporting Children with Disabilities. In spite of the poor snow conditions, we had tremendous support from the community and raised just over $1,200.00. Eddie Kennedy Rosella Infante Sandy Jamieson
