Huskies Set to Host Area Tournaments For the first time in school history, the Hewitt-Trussville Girls and Boys Basketball teams will both host the Area tournament in the same season. Both tournaments will be held at Bryant Bank Arena on the HTHS campus. The Girls team finished with a perfect 6-0 record in Area play to lock up the #1 seed. The Boys team finished Area play with a 4-2 record to tie for first place with Grissom. The Huskies won a coin flip to secure the #1 seed. Page 3 of 18 Girls Basketball Wins in Closing Seconds Coach Tonya Hunter's Girls Basketball team will enter postseason on a winning streak. The Huskies traveled to Center Point on Friday night and came away with a 56-54 win. The Huskies enter the Area Tournament with a 23-3 overall record. Center Point got off to a hot start and led 13-9 after the opening quarter. The lead would extend to nine points in the second quarter before the Huskies started coming back. The Eagles led by five points at halftime. Hewitt battled back in the 3rd quarter, and the game was tied going into the final quarter. With under 10 seconds left, Center Point went to the free throw line with the game tied. They would miss the free throw and the Huskies raced to the other end. London Coleman was fouled and went to the line with a chance to win it. She calmly sank both free throws and Hewitt escaped with a road win. This week the team will host Gadsden City in the first round of the Area Tournament. The game will be played Tuesday at 5:30pm. The winner will advance to Saturday's championship game.

Page 4 of 18 Boys Basketball Completes Regular Season The Boys Basketball team will enter the 2018 Area Tournament with a 15-8 overall record. On Tuesday January 30, the team defeated Minor on the road 76-74 in double overtime. Malachi Moore led the team in scoring with 18 points. Three other players scored in double figures: Damon Harper (16 Points) Bryant Howell (14 Points) TJ Alexander (10 Points) On Friday February 2, the Huskies lost at Center Point by the score of 64-56. Hewitt was down early and was not able to complete the comeback. Coach Marcus Thomas' team will play Gadsden City on Thursday night at 7pm in the Area Tournament. The winner will advance to Saturday's championship game.

Page 7 of 18 Indoor Track: AHSAA State Meet Recap The Hewitt-Trussville Indoor Track teams, coached by David Dobbs and Herbert Clark, turned in impressive performances at the 2018 State Indoor Track Meet. The event was held February 2-3 at the Birmingham Crossplex. The Girls team finished 6th out of 32 teams. The Boys team finished 8th out of 32 teams. Notes from the AHSAA State Indoor Meet: Girls *Girls 4x400 Relay earned a #11 National ranking *Hope Igbinoghene took the podium three times: Silver in 60M, Bronze in 400M, Silver in 4x400 Relay *Lea Townsend earned the Bronze medal in the Shot Put *Sydney White Silver in 4x400 Relay *Skyler Nelson Silver in 4x400 Relay *Kelsey Martin Silver in 4x400 Relay *Girls team combined for eight school records *Girls team combined for 18 All-State Performances *Girls team combined for 15 Personal Records *40.5 Team Points were the most by the Girls team in any State performance at the Crossplex *Highest team finish (6th) since 2012 Boys *One State Champion: Jake Diggs 400M Dash *Jake Diggs was on the podium: Gold 400M Dash *Zack McManus was on the podium: Bronze medal in Long Jump *Team combined for 17 All-State Performances *Team combined for 12 Personal Records *8th Place finish as a team in 7A

Page 8 of 18 Wrestling Preps for Sectionals The regular season is over for Hewitt-Trussville Wrestling and the postseason is on the horizon. The Huskies will travel to the Birmingham Crossplex February 9-10 for the AHSAA Sectional Tournament. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the AHSAA State Championships. This year's final event will take place in Huntsville February 16-17.

Page 9 of 18 Tennis to Open Season Wednesday The Hewitt-Trussville Boys and Girls Tennis teams will begin the 2018 season on Wednesday as they travel to Mountain Brook. Both teams will play 15 matches and two tournaments during the regular season. All home matches will be played at the Trussville Racquet Club. Both teams are coming off impressive 2017 performances. The Girls team finished 23-6 overall and a perfect 7-0 in Region play. They advanced all the way to the State Tournament and placed 5th in 7A. The Boys team finished the season with a 17-5 overall record. They were 6-1 in Region play. The Huskies will play their first home match Friday February 9 as Oxford visits. Page 12 of 18 Middle School Wrestling Wins Metro Championship The Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Wrestling team capped off an undefeated season by winning the Metro Championship this past weekend. The season's final event was held at Hoover High School. The Huskies finished first in the 11-team field. Hewitt finished 41 points ahead of the second place Thompson Warriors. Congratulations to Coach Bill Strickland and all of his wrestlers. Page 13 of 18 Metro Champs! 8th Grade Girls Basketball Claims Title The 8th Grade Girls Basketball team finished the season 19-0 as they captured the Metro Championship. Hewitt opened the tournament with a bye before playing Bumpus in the quarterfinals. The Huskies controlled the game throughout on the way to a 39-9 win. In the semifinals, Hewitt faced a test as they played Simmons. A strong second half performance paved the way for a 43-32 win. That set up a championship game vs Berry. The Huskies struggled to score in the first half and found themselves down 16-10 at halftime. The third quarter was also a struggle and Berry led late in the quarter. Hewitt would find its offense outscored Berry 22-2 to end the game. As the final second ticked away, the Huskies claimed a 35-25 win. Katie Flannery scored 14 points in the championship game and was named tournament MVP. April Hooks also has a big night as she scored 13 points.

Page 14 of 18 Todd Carlile Wins Coach of the Year Award On Tuesday February 6, Coach Todd Carlile was named Metro South 8th Grade Basketball Coach of the Year. Carlile led his team to the Metro South Championship and a perfect 19-0 record. 7th Grade Girls Basketball Falls in Quarterfinals The 7th Grade Girls Basketball team's season came to a close last week in the Metro Tournament. On January 29, the Huskies opened the tournament with a game against Liberty Park. Hannah Dorsett had a big offensive night for Hewitt as she poured in 16 points. Brooklyn Allison also scored in double figures as she added 10 points. The Huskies would move forward in the tournament with a 42-30 win. On January 30, Hewitt fell to Bumpus 56-34. Bumpus entered the tournament as the #1 seed.

Page 15 of 18 8th Grade Boys Basketball Concludes Season The 8th Grade Boys Basketball team traveled to Bumpus Middle School last week to compete in the Metro Tournament. The Huskies had a first round match up with Simmons. Hewitt played well on the offensive end as they won 53-28. That set up a second round game between the Huskies and the overall #1 seed Oak Mountain Eagles. Hewitt fought hard, but Oak Mountain advanced with a 53-35 win.

Page 16 of 18 7th Grade Boys Basketball Finishes 4th in Metro Tournament The 7th Grade Boys Basketball team made a spirited run in the 2018 Metro Tournament. The Huskies opened the event with a 38-26 win over Simmons. That set up a quarterfinal match up with the host school, top seed Mountain Brook. Hewitt made some key plays late in the game to come away with a 51-45 upset win. Coach Doug Benton's team dropped a 43-34 decision to Homewood in the semifinals. The team finished the season with a 45-29 loss to Pizitz in the 3rd place game.
