CELEBRATING 23 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Sacramento, CA Chapter - American Singles Golf Association May 2015 ROCKLIN GOLF COURSE IN APRIL Everyone knows the weather can be capricious in April. So because of seriously dry and droughtful (droughty?) conditions the past four years, Sacramento Singles wanted to believe the Weatherman when he said big storms moving in Friday night and Saturday, our day to play Rocklin Golf Course up there in... Rocklin. But we didn't want to forgo our chance to play up there in Rocklin. The Weatherman was most generous and cooperative, however. It rained a good soaking rain from early Friday evening until into the wee hours of the morning. And by 11 am, tee time, the course was in tip top condition. The sand traps required some ingenuity to pull balls out of as they were knee-deep and not exactly drained yet. But Sacramento Singles never let a little thing like April Showers slow us down. At the appointed time, 11:04 Warren Peacor, Melody Hayes, Paul La Franchi and Ernie Finkbeiner teed off. They were followed by Randy Alston, Jo Briggs, Dell Fystrom and John Wardlow. Finally Dwight Pattison, George Shea, Sue Jeffery and Ray Guenther were off for a fun day in Rocklin. Rocklin Golf Course is the old Sunset John Wardlow, Jo Briggs, Dell Fystrom.& Randy Alston Warren Peacor, Melody Hayes, Paul La Franchi & Ernie Finkbeiner. It's pretty challenging especially for those of us who never played there before. It was a lot of fun. Not real crowded and we finished in a nice easy, not slow, 5 hours. Then down out of Rocklin to Tahoe Joe's in Roseville where eight of us enjoyed dinner. All in all a very fun day. CALENDAR We are now set for the year through October. In May we will play Mather on a Sunday (17 th ) to get in between Mother s Day and The Memorial Weekend. June is set with the Gold Country Classic in Angels Camp. The following is our calendar for the year: Sunday, May 17 th Mather Friday-Sunday June 5 th -7 th Gold Country Classic Saturday, July 18 th Blue Rock Springs Sunday, Aug 16 th Eagle Vines Saturday, Sept 12 th Morgan Creek Saturday, Oct 17 th Scotch Partners @ Bartley Cavanaugh GOLD COUNTRY CLASSIC Friday thru Sunday JUNE 5-7 We are venturing to the foothills and have another Gold Country Classic. We will play Saddle Creek and Greenhorn Creek and arrange for lodging at Saddle Creek. However, if you are a World Mark owner and can get into Angels Camp with your time share, we will have a golf and food package for you!! We have 24 already committed including 14 from outside our chapter. We need more players for our chapter. We are now on the National web site. We will be inviting all former members as well so hopefully we can get a turnout of at least 40 players. We will have music with our ownv DJ and thus have dancing, and will have a barbeque on Friday evening. COME ON SIGN UP RESERVE YOUR ROOM: We have some rooms available as some of our members have reserved rooms and have a room available in their condo. This is the best way to go. No cost now as you can pay in May for this event, but I need to know if you need a room. So sign up soon. SACTOWN 4 PARTICIPATES IN SEDONA OUTING The Phoenix Chapter of ASGA had a spring outing in the beautiful countryside of Sedona, RED ROCKS and all on the weekend of April 11-12. Four of our members, better known on that weekend as the Sactown 4 attended the event. Paul Arquette, Ernie Finkbeiner, George Shea and Dwight Pattison all played both days and had a great time. These multichapter events are what the organization is all about. Fun golf and social times in a great surrounding. 48 members participated with the fartheset being from Sarasota, FL. We played Sedona Golf Resort and Oak Creek Country Club, both very nice venues. Ernie turned out to be the only winner as his team finished second

on Saturday. George did ok, winning $40 in the 50-50 raffle Saturday night. George was a good sport and took the group out for ice cream later in the evening. The four guys didn t travel together but did meet up in Cave Creek for a round of golf on Friday prior to the outing to get themselves warmed up. Made for a nice weekend. Rules & More Rules Refusal to tend flag by opponent or fellow competitor "You are about to putt and ask your opponent or fellow competitor to attend the flagstick. They decline and say the will not attend the flag. What is the correct ruling? A. Ridiculous, an opponent of fellow competitor is required to tend the flag. refusal to do so results in their disqualification and loss of round. B. Get over it. This is competition, an opponent of fellow competitor is not required to help you out. If you are so far away that you can't see the hole, chances are you will not make the putt, so just lag it toward the pin. If you can see the hole, just go move the pin yourself. Answer The answer is B. An opponent of fellow competitor is not required to attend the flagstick. The requester has no redress. Rule 17, The Flagstick, decision 17-1/2 applies Sactown 4 in Phoenix Feeling Left Out? Are You Not Receiving the Chapter Emails That Other Chapter Members Are Receiving? (There s a way to fix that.) You have to let your in-box know that an email is coming from any and all of these: MyChapter@SinglesGolf.com Newsletter@SinglesGolf.com Info@SinglesGolf.com GolfASGA@aol.com You do that by adding ALL FOUR (4) email addresses into your email account s address book. ASGA does not control what s allowed in your in-box. You do!

SACRAMENTO ASGA GOLD COUNTRY CLASSIC JUNE 5-7, 2015 Sacramento Chapter of ASGA is having its annual spring golf outing this year in the GOLD COUNTRY. We are playing three of Northern California s finest courses and have scheduled the event in an area that lodging is available by renting or using a time share that is on site. The Mother Lode area is a fantastic destination for golf as well as historic sightseeing and wine tasting. It was recently labeled by one magazine as one of the 10 best destinations in the country. And we are inviting all ASGA members to join us, especially those in the western portion of the country. The dates will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 5 th through 7 th and it will be held at Saddle Creek, Greenhorn Creek and La Contenta Golf Courses in Calaveras County. This is near the community of Angels Camp, in the heart of the Gold Country. The event will include golf at Saddle Creek on Friday, followed by a barbeque at Saddle Creek; golf at Greenhorn Creek on Saturday and a dinner at Greenhorn Creek on Saturday evening, complete with a DJ for your dancing pleasure. Sunday golf at La Contenta is an option. Play will begin on Friday the 5 th at 11:00 allowing people to arrive on Friday morning. Saturday play will also begin at 11:00 AM, allowing a vacation type sleep in or have a nice breakfast. The cost for the package of two rounds of golf and two dinners is $235, a great deal when you consider two rounds of golf at four star courses, including cart and prize fund, plus dinner, with dancing. The optional round at La Contenta is $50. DEADLINE for registration and payment: May 10 th. GOLF & DINNERS Saddle Creek (left) was recently named to the top 30 public access courses in California and it would rank in the top 5 in Northern California outside of Pebble Beach. It has been home to the Northern California PGA and has played host to many events. It is a foothills course with rolling topography. A catered barbeque will follow at the course. Greenhorn Creek (middle), designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is similar in that it is located on rolling foothill topography with many stately oak trees and even an old rock fence. This course has enjoyed a four star rating from golf digest. Our banquet will be at Greenhorn in the Fireside Room and plans are to have a DJ for dancing following the dinner and awarding of prizes. La Contenta (right) is another four star course located in the community of Valley Springs, north of Greenhorn Creek. It is a lush foothill course that contains what the Sacramento Bee called, the best par 3 in the valley, #13, a 160 yard thriller off a hill over a pond to an inviting green. This round is not included in the package bit is an option to those attending and one can register for it separately. All three of the courses have websites with plenty of pictures, so google them and you will want to come to our outing and enjoy the courses as well as the fun and friendships at a multi-chapter event.

LODGING Our chapter has arranged and reserved units at World Mark Angels Camp for those who want to participate in this event. If you own a World Mark time share or can exchange for one through RCI or Interval, you are welcome to do that and just sign up for the golf package. If you wish to get lodging through our chapter, we have one and two bedroom units available. However, these units will go fast and we are competing with the general public. Thus you should reserve your room soon!! The following is available. One Bedroom These units have a king size bed in the bedroom and a Murphy bed or sofa sleeper in the living area and one bath plus a kitchen. They can be used by one or two people at the cost is $100 per night. Thus if two of you stay there, its $50 per person per night. Two Bedroom These units have two bedrooms and two baths. Some of the units have a queen bed in one bedroom and two twins in a second, and others have a queen bed in each bedroom. All have a murphy or wall bed. These units can accommodate two, three or four players. They are available at $150 per night, so if you have four of you, that is only $37.50 per night per person. If these sell out, the resort has five units available as backup at $227 per night. Lodging is reserved through our chapter, so if you are interested in coming and want to reserve a unit, you must contact Dwight Pattison at 916-714-3010 or by e mail at dwight@pattisonappraisals.com. Payment for both lodging and golf is due by May 10 th. Once again, if you plan on coming, reserve your room early as these units will go fast. If you desire to stay alone and are looking for a room, the following two motels are recommended. Both are in Angels Camp, minutes from the courses. Best Western Cedar Inn (209) 736-4000 Gold Country Inn (209) 736-4611 This is a weekend only golf outing, but the Gold Country beckons those who are interested in making this a longer stay. That is up to you!!! Hopefully we can get a good turnout and make our spring getaway a regular event for ASGA members, especially those of us out west.
