Cox and J. Kaufman Re: BOA at University of Dayton (Ohio) on 10/7/17 Date: Handed out 10/3/17 It s BOA time!! BOA stands for Bands of America and is a series of competitions that are held around the United States. As the band program is striving for excellence we believe that competing at BOA events gives our students access to the best judging panel around to gain specific high quality feedback that will help us grow not only as a marching band but as well-rounded musicians and performers. The day will be a long one, but will be well worth the time and effort! We look forward to this exciting event please make sure you are getting your rest, doing your homework and being awesome young men and women! You are expected to be in class MONDAY morning!! Freshman: Soph: Juniors: Seniors: Please bring the following to the band garage by THURSDAY OF THIS WEEK! 1 Case of water AND 2 boxes Granola Bars 1 Case of water AND 2 Boxes of Capri Sun 1 Case of water AND Variety pack of 12 lunch size bags 1 Case of water AND Box of fruit snack gummies PARENTS: CHEER FOR US!!!!! IF YOU HEAR SOMETHING YOU LIKE CLAP!! WATCH THE STAFF ON THE TRACK IF YOU ARE NOT SURE WHERE TO CLAP! HOPE TO SEE YOU IN DAYTON!!!!!!!!!! Friday, October 6 th 5:00 p.m. Rehearsal ends. Buses arrive at GHS. We will pack the semi and trailers after rehearsal. This means ALL instruments, uniforms and EVERYTHING you will need for the show should be loaded on the semi at this time! 5:45 p.m.ish You will be dismissed by a director. Please get to bed EARLY this evening as you have a VERY long day on Saturday! 9:00 p.m. You are tucked in to your bed, no TV, cell phones or computers that will keep you awake. Make sure you have a friend that you will call you or text you to get up. Saturday, October 7 th (Show day!!) You are to bring a brownbag breakfast with you!! 2:00 a.m. Call/text your friend to make sure they are up! No, really I mean it, CALL THEM!! GO KNOCK ON THEIR DOOR!! 2:15 a.m. All 6 busses arrive on the practice lot so we can load. 2:30 a.m. Arrive at GHS to load the bus. You should check for the weather BEFORE we leave pack the appropriate clothes. You may bring a bag on the bus with you. Remember your black socks and shoes!! If you need gloves, they will cost you $5.00 per set of gloves. DO NOT DRINK A TON BEFORE GETTING ON THE BUS. We do not plan to stop on the way! 2:45 a.m. Leave for Carlisle High School, 250 Jamaica Rd, Carlisle, OH 45005. YOU MUST REST/SLEEP! YOU MUST BE QUIET! You will be asked to move seats if you are not quiet!! You need to bring a brownbag breakfast with you!!! Parents are in charge. You are to rest/sleep in the way down. You can help by being mature young adults. No foul language, PDA (affection), or other deviant behavior will be permitted. BE GOOD KIDS!! 6:45 a.m. Arrive at Carlisle High School, 250 Jamaica Rd, Carlisle, OH 45005. Remember we are guests and that it is a BIG deal for someone to open up their school for us!! Use restroom and get ready for a great rehearsal! 7:00 a.m. Visual/singing rehearsal begins!!! (no horns or props) Remember great bands REHEARSE GREAT!! 7:45 a.m. Rehearsal ends/board buses. Eat a snack you brought with you. Trucks leave Carlisle HS. You must enter Gate B off of Edwin C. Moses Blvd.

8:00 a.m. Band leaves Carlisle High School, 250 Jamaica Rd, Carlisle, OH 45005 for the Welcome Stadium (Univ. of Dayton). Only cars/trucks with parking passes will be allowed in with the band. 8:15 a.m. Trucks and semi arrive at Welcome Stadium (University of Dayton) parking lot. BOA Volunteers will be on hand to meet you on arrival and give parking instructions. You must enter Gate B off of Edwin C. Moses Blvd. 8:25 a.m. Buses arrive at Welcome Stadium (U. of Dayton) parking lot get dressed/horns & perc out/equipment get ready performance! You must enter Gate B off of Edwin C. Moses Blvd. 9:25 a.m. Move to Warm-up 9:35-10:20 a.m. Warm-up for winds/battery perc. (Area A) **Pit percussion warms up separately-all sound goes with the pit. 10:10 a.m. Pit percussion will leave warm-up to go to performance 10:20 p.m. Pit percussion reports to stadium 10:20 a.m. Winds and battery percussion warm up ends. 10:35 a.m. Band and battery percussion report time to stadium 10:45 a.m. A GREAT GOSHEN PERFORMANCE @ BOA!!!! PYROMANIA!! 11:15 a.m. Back to the semi/buses to put instruments/equipment away and change. PYROMANIA 12:00 p.m. Buses depart for Carlisle High School to eat and practice. (Semi is getting packed at this time, NEED parent help!) 12:25 p.m.ish Arrive at Carlisle High School, 250 Jamaica Rd, Carlisle, OH 45005 to eat lunch/practice. 12:30 p.m. Eat lunch 12:45 p.m. Band Semi and trailers arrive at Carlisle HS 1:15 p.m. Practice begins. Let s use this time to get better!!! 2:30 p.m. Rehearsal ends. We may leave our semi/trailers at this site as we will be coming back to this area to eat our dinner. (Buses may depart before semi is all the way loaded) 3:15 p.m. Leave Carlisle HS for Welcome Stadium. 3:45 p.m. Watch other bands be a good audience! Drum majors should be dressed at this time. 4:15 p.m.ish Awards. We hope to be in finals! They take the top 10 regardless of class. 4:45 p.m. Back to the buses following directions given by staff/parents. Mr. Cox and Mr. Kaufman will be in directors meeting for all finalist bands (we hope!) 2 hours before we perform we will return to Welcome Stadium. If we perform 1 st this could be a very fast turnaround just so everyone is in the loop.we may have to do dinner at the Stadium picnic area.???5:25 p.m. Dinner at Carlisle HS (or at Welcome Park). Please be patient and kind during this time. The Goshen Band Boosters will provide this meal. P.S. They rock!! Staff and parents are in charge, be good kids! Mr. Cox and Mr. Kaufman will meet you to tell you about the plans for the rest of the evening as soon as they can. 6:45 p.m. Gates open for spectators 7:45 p.m. Finals begin We do not know our times until the directors meeting. X:XX Goshen performs in Finals what happens after this is still a little in the air, be flexible. You will stay in uniform after the performance (no instruments) 10:30 p.m. Finale and award presentation will require full band in uniform for finale. 11:00 p.m. Awards end, back to the buses to get changed and return to Goshen. 11:45 pm-ish Leave for Goshen. (use the restroom before we leave) 4:00 am-ish Return to Goshen, unload. 4:30 am-ish You are free to leave..whew that was a long and exciting day!! Parent Information Tickets can be bought ahead of time if you visit musicforall.org They are a little pricey, but that is the normal rate for BOA, WGI (national) events. Still hope you can make it! Check out the Flo Marching website to stream the performances if you are not able to join us. You might want to ride in carpools to save money. Parking will cost $5.00 There should be plenty of seats, but all of the 50 yd line ones may be gone by the time we perform. Since it is in BIG stadium feel free to CHEER LOUDLY! It will be a long day/night for the kids I would expect that they may not do much on Sunday but sleep something you already knew. BUT THEY SHOULD BE IN CLASS ON MONDAY!! Your directors will be there so YOU need to be there! Your child may bring snacks with them on the bus, think healthy!! We get a boost from you!! Please yell/clap/scream during the show!! You are not being rude, you actually add to the score when you cheer loudly. PLEASE come and support your children!! They perform better when you are there! Do you have a red band shirt or a show shirt? If so wear it to the show! Attendance is extremely important! Please have your child at rehearsal we can only get better if everyone is here all of the time! Thank you! The kids are doing great! Please remind them that no matter the outcome they are winners because they are working hard and getting better! That is success!
