Packaging and Handling HANDLING: AN OVERVIEW Forane FBA 1233zd is Non-toxic. Non-flammable. Easily handled as a liquid. Compatible with a wide variety of materials. Little to no capital investment required to convert. Often can be used in existing blowing agent tanks. Contact your Arkema representative to evaluate storage in your existing tanks. Can be used with R141b and cyclopentane equipment with limited modifications 5
Packaging and Handling SAFE HANDLING OF CYLINDERS Review Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to become familiar with properties. Protect cylinder and fittings from puncturing and denting. Close cylinder valves when not in use. Secure cylinders to prevent rolling. Blocks, cradles can be used. Especially important when moving cylinders with fork trucks. Wood Cradle Forane FBA 1233zd is a liquid with a boiling temperature of 19ºC. Store Forane FBA 1233zd in a cool, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Store on elevated or concrete floors to avoid cylinder corrosion. Steel Cradle 6

MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY = Recommended per Arkema Standard Test Method* Plastics Elastomer, Gasketing Metal * Plastic, Elastomer Samples: Samples were introduced into a test tube filled with Forane FBA 1233zd blowing agent. The tube was sealed and placed in a water bath kept at a temperature above the boiling point of Forane FBA 1233zd blowing agent for 5 minutes, 24 hours, or 100 hours. At the end of each time period, the sample was removed and measured for dimensions and weight. The sample was then subjected to a tensile test. * Metal Samples were tested according to ASTM G31-72. 8
Charging Forane FBA1233zd OVERVIEW Forane FBA 1233zd boils at around 19 o C (66 o F), so care should be taken to limit evaporation during blending. Use of closed system or cooled system is recommended. 1233zd is soluable in polyol, typically up to 30 wt.% or more. Details on next pages Blending options for Forane FBA 1233zd are similar to current blowing agents and include: Polyol-side or Isocyanate-side Metered addition In-line Blending Selected examples showed on next pages 9
Charging Forane FBA1233zd BLEND INTO POLYOLS Forane FBA 1233zd has good solubility with polyols. Forane FBA 1233zd can be pre-blended into polyol, typically up to 30 wt. % or more. Data on specific polyol solubility is available in the Forane FBA 1233zd Technical Profile brochure. 10

Foam Formulation OVERVIEW With suitable selection of components, Forane FBA 1233zd formulations can provide improved thermal performance, lower environmental impact, and long shelf-stability. Additive suppliers are continually developing additional products suited for HFO use, so additional options may be available. Extending Shelf-life of 1233zd Formulations Shelf-life is typically not a concern for factory-produced foam. However, for applications where extended shelf-life is required, the Arkema Technical Service Team is happy to assist you. Selection of key components to extend shelf-life include: 1. Catalysts 2. Surfactants 3. Polyol Selection To summarize, with proper selection of commercially-available components, extended shelf-life can be easily attained. 17
Foam Formulation CATALYSTS SELECTION Catalysts can be selected to improve shelf-life while maintaining the required reactivity. Catalysts manufacturers provide guidance on their solutions for HFO-based formulations. Several new catalysts have been developed specifically for HFO s by additive suppliers. Arkema has evaluated many different catalysts for several foam applications, including spray, pour-in-place, and appliance. Achieved success achieved in extending the shelf-life across all applications. Details available from Arkema Technical Service. Publicly-available technical papers on this topic: Costa, J., B.
