June 2011 The Vette Sette Volume XXI Issue 6 President s Message Hello Classic Glassers and Happy Father s Day. I think I can safely say that SVS was a huge success. We had 122 cars registered. The preliminary numbers show that we made about $2800.00. Considering other events that were happening on the same weekend, I think we had a great turnout. Again, thanks Carl Etter and Steve Hodge for their outstanding work. All of the volunteers, venders and sponsors really stepped up this year. Congratulations for a job well done. May has been both fun filled and sad at the same time. We lost a long time member in Sonya Alterman, wife of Joel Alterman. Also Valda Bryant s father John Tweet McRae passed away this month. Our thoughts and prayers certainly go out to Joel, Valda and their families. I think they both know that they can turn to the Classic Glass family in their time of need. Moving into summer we have only just begun to have fun. We have many exciting events coming up. Events such as cruising the Lake, Day s Chevrolet Car and Bike Show, Bill Holt Chevrolet Car Show benefiting the NCM and the Kentucky Bourbon Tour all promise to be fun filled. Oh yea, don t forget the CGCC picnic in July. This is always a fun and relaxing day with lots of good food and fellowship. We had two new members join the CGCC family at SVS bringing our membership to 176, with the promise of four more at the next general meeting on June 14 th. As we continue to grow I would like to ask that everyone take the time to make our new members feel welcome in our club. Larry Yon CGCC President Minutes of the Classic Glass Corvette Club General Membership Meeting Tuesday, May 11, 2011 President Larry Yon called the meeting to order at 7:34pm. After welcoming everyone Larry stated the collection of canned goods, water and/or cash for the victims of the recent tornado in Ringgold would be delivered by Reggie Martin during the week. He also stated that we had heard from the Mountain City Club and they are okay. Larry said the C5/C6 Bash was a lot of fun. Hillary Dukas said that she and Robert were very thankful for the opportunity to attend the Winner s Circle Banquet and represent the Club by accepting the Club s award as $1000+ donors to the Museum. She said it was a highlight of their 15+ year membership. Larry delivered the sad news that Harriette Majoros had chosen to resign as newsletter editor to pursue her continued efforts to support the Museum. Calvin Cruce has agreed to step into this position to finish out the year. All feedback from the Tail of the Dragon cruise was overwhelmingly positive. Scott thanked Pierre Brochu for leading the cruise in his absence. Carl Etter said everything was in place for Super Vette Saturday on May 21 st. He invited all who were interested to join in the fun of goody bag stuffing at Sidelines on Wednesday, the 18 th. Secretary Keelie Sparks thanked Chris Reed for stepping in to record the minutes from the last meeting when she was at the hospital with her Mother. She stated Chris submitted the minutes to the continued on page 2 Classic Glass Corvette Club Page 1

the newsletter editor and they were then published. After asking for any corrections or additions, Keelie requested a motion for acceptance. Wayne Ray made the motion. Frank Macaluso seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Next, PJ Ray was called to present the Treasurer s Report. After presenting the financial status of the club, PJ called for a motion of acceptance. Doug Reed made the motion. Wayne Mobley seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Scott Oliver, VP of Activities, distributed the t-shirts from the Make A Wish parade. After doing so, Larry told the group that one of the children who was supposed to ride in the parade was late due to weather issues. The child was disappointed because he was very excited at the thought of getting to ride in a corvette. Larry thanked Scott for staying after the parade and giving the boy a fun ride around. Scott said the next event would be Super Vette Saturday and according to Carl the earliest anyone can arrive to start shining would be 7am. So far we have 57 people to preregister. He said the set up will be at noon on Friday and all were welcome to help. After Super Vette, the next event would be on June 4 th with the cruise to Carter s Lake. Randy Kicklighter asks those who are going to meet at the Goodwill store at the intersection of 575 and 92 at 9:30am the morning of the 4 th. Scott reminded the group of the car show sponsored by Day s Chevrolet from 10-2 on June 11 th. Keelie Sparks added that this car show replaces the Cruz Ins Day s had that benefit the Horizon Special Needs Ball League of Acworth. Our Nation Corvette Museum ambassador Fred Hale was unable to attend so Larry reminded the group that the CGCC work weekend is scheduled for the last weekend in May. Larry then asked Nancy Holmon to come to the front of the room. There he presented her with a Lifetime Membership for her 25 years of continued service to CGCC. VP at Large, Greg Brooks asked if anyone had a new car since the last meeting. With none, he proceeded with the 50/25/25 drawing. He said the pot had grown to $156 so each winner would receive $39. The lucky winners were Cindy Cowart and Rita Brooks. Next Chris Johnson, VP of Membership introduced our visitors including Greg and Judy, who told us of their 2006 yellow vette. He stated that he had gone to high school with Frank Macaluso. Susan and Wayne were excited to tell us of their 1962 with 64,000 original miles when they purchased it. Larry thanked our Sideline s staff for their attention to the group tonight. With all business concluded, the meeting adjourned at 8:28pm. Respectfully submitted, Keelie Sparks, Secretary 2011 Congratulations to CGCC members Don Jones and Cindy Pope on their engagement. Don popped the question at the Kenny Chesney concert May 20, 2011. They met at the club s summer picnic in 2009. No news on a date yet from the happy couple. 24 Hours of Le Mans coming June 11-12 Corvette Racing s next event is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 79th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours will start at 3 p.m. local time (9 a.m. ET). SPEED will televise the race live, supplemented by live video streaming on SpeedTV.com. SuperVette Saturday was made possible by all the CGCC volunteers. Thanks to everyone who worked so long and hard to make it the success it was. NCM Motorsports Park takes big step at Bash The National Corvette Museum is currently developing and raising funds for a new world class motorsports park to be located on I-65 directly across from the Museum. "There is no car like the Corvette, and no better place to experience its marvelous history than the Corvette Museum. With the introduction of a Motorsports Park, Corvette owners will have a safe environment to experience the magic that is Corvette. Johnny O Connell American LeMans Series Champion Former Corvette Racing Driver 2012 Carlisle Blue Corvette Spotted Les Stanford Chevrolet of Dearborn, MI posted photos on Corvette Forum which show a 2012 Corvette Grand Sort painted in Carlisle Blue. Think you might like it. or not? At the C5/C6 Bash Museum Executive Director Wendell Strode announced the Motorsports Park would be completed in phases so that the project can continue to progress. Shown above, Phase 1 will include a two mile west road course and autocross/skid pad area. Rather than hold up the entire project, hoping for major sponsorships to cover the initial $35 million project, we decided to break it into smaller, more achievable phases so that motorsports enthusiasts could begin enjoying portions of the park in the near future, said Strode. At the Bash, our own Wayne and PJ Ray, NCM Founding Members and Lifetime Members, committed to buy an acre. Way to go you two. Classic Glass Corvette Club Page 3
