Fishing This is a diverse fishery for experts and beginners alike. There are crystal clear flats with one to two feet of water that serve as home to a lot of smaller bonefish, and deeper three- to four-footdeep flats where bigger bonefish and permit roam. There are restricted channels for longer fights since the fish can t run and tire out, deep holes for lurking monsters, protected areas when the wind kicks up, and a 70-mile reef for migrating game fish. All fishing in the biosphere reserve is catch-and-release. There are plenty of fish in these waters and we ll give you the opportunity and the insider knowledge to catch them.
Grandslam Ascension Bay is world-renowned for its seemingly endless saltwater flats, and fishermen come here primarily seeking the challenge of the elusive permit and bonefish, plus a good chance to nail a Grand Slam. Landing a bonefish, tarpon and permit in the same day is like a hole-in-one for a golfer. Add a snook to the trio for a Super Slam. The acknowledged strategy is to land a permit first since it is the most difficult to hook, and then go in search of tarpon since they may take time to locate. Last, go for bonefish about 4 or 5 p.m. They can get spooked by noisy boats during the day and head towards the outer beaches, but they always come back into the shallow waters of the bay for the night.
