The planning application was granted a couple of weeks before the AGM with a few modifications to the original plans. The next step is to look for available grants for the construction work. Before this can happen the money from the Morris Rothwell trust needs to be placed into a new trust. Status: Approved Page 5 of 17
Appendix A Chair s Report No written report was received though the chair did give a speech thanking the volunteers in the club for all the hard work they have put in to help the club over the course of the year. Status: Approved Page 6 of 17
Appendix B Treasurer s Report Pat Glennon Overall The club has invested quite heavily in boats and equipment this year. However, we still managed to make a surplus of income. Cash assets continue to look healthy. Specifics For the third consecutive year, we received no grant income. Investments continue to provide a significant source of income. Income from subs appears down. Expenditure on the application for planning permission was 2,707 from November 2013 November 2014. Details of the club accounts are removed from the online version of these minutes. Members can apply for copies of these by contacting the club secretary: secretary@manchestercanoeclub.org.uk Status: Approved Page 7 of 17
Appendix C Membership Report Ian Jordan We have seen a good level of new people joining the club over the last year, which indicated there is significant interest with what we do. However, we have also seen an increase in the amount of lapsed members, which is something that I will look to address throughout the coming year. Improve the renewal process by automating the membership reminders. Focusing on the reasons for the increase in lapsed memberships. Status: Approved Page 8 of 17
Appendix D Website Report Michael Stringer Highlights of 2014 This year has been a quiet year for the website with no major issues reported or large upgrades happening. Plans for 2015 The main aim for 2015 is to work with Ian Jordan to get the membership transferred to WebCollect so that we can take online payments. There are also plans to upgrade the main website to a newer version of Joomla which will improve the site for mobile users. Request for More Content There is always a need for more content to go on the website trip reports, events that are happening and anything else that might be interesting to existing or potential club members. If you have anything to contribute, please get in contact with me. Status: Approved Page 9 of 17

Appendix F Slalom Training Mark Davies The Marlins Junior squad remains a successful part of MCC with about 21 current junior paddles who attend on a Tuesday evening (18) or Thursday (3). There has of cause been some turnover of paddlers over the year with quite a few who have come to try it and shortly left and those who have enjoyed the Marlins and have moved on. We did have four groups on a Tuesday evening at one point, but this became unsustainable when the nights closed in and the fourth group had nowhere to go. Most notable points of the year have been a recruitment drive through our links with Stockport Grammar School (SGS) and the introduction of a Thursday evening session in addition to the Tuesday evening one. Recruitment from SGS had mixed success, with those sticking with the sport from SGS coming to the club off their own backs rather than through the organised come and try it session. The Thursday evening session came about through a combination of a lack of places on a Tuesday and some new paddles unable to join the Marlins on a Tuesday because of other commitments. Of cause the Marlins could not exist without the input of all the volunteer coaches and helpers that regularly put in their own time on a regular basis to help out. Many thanks to you all. Other notable slalom training that goes on includes the C1 session run on a Monday night run by Tom Carlisle, Wednesday night full runs run by Ashlee Dack, post Marlins session run by Johnathan Akinyemi on a Thursday evening and a Thursday general session. All are well attended and will continue through the next year. MCC Slalom Rankings At the end of the year we have 24 K1M ranked paddlers, 8 C1M, 11 K1W and 4 C1W and 4 C2 crews, with a total of about 37 active slalom paddlers. Highest-ranking paddlers are: Class Paddler Ranking K1M Elliot Davidson 18 th Prem K1W Amy Hollick 6 th Prem C1M Dave Bradshaw 8 th Div 1 C1W Jade Hollick 10 th Prem/1 C2 Mark D & Mike S 2 nd Div 2/3 Most improved paddlers: Class Paddler Positions Gained K1M James Lewis-Booth 361 K1W Liz Stringer 121 C1M Alastair Gill 148 C1W Jade Hollick 15 C2 Mattie & Alastair 224 Status: Approved Page 11 of 17
These have been worked out by the greatest number of places a paddler has moved up the rankings over the year (bib number minus their end of year ranking, plus lower division bib number where a paddler has been promoted during the season). 2014 National Inter-club Championship Finals At the Interclub we came third out of a total of 22 British clubs that entered. We were very pleased to beat the Stafford and Stone (B) team and were only 7 points behind the runner s up Holme Pierrepont C.C. team. The best results came from the women s K1 div 3/2/P1 team of C. Gill/G. Killick/A. Hollick who came 3 rd, Elliott Davidson who came 1 st place in the Prem K1 (B) category, Gemma Killick came 3 rd Div 2 K1 W category, Alastair Patterson who came 3 rd in the C1M category, Jade Hollick who came 1 st in the C1W category, Amy Hollick who came 2 nd in the Div Prem/1 K1W category and Hinchcliffe/Raper/Davidson who came 2 nd in the men s team Div Prem/1 category. An outstanding achievement by team MCC! Events The club has run 3 events this year, two Div 3/4 weekends at Marple and a Div 1/Prem weekend at HPP. Many thanks to the organisers of those events: Ashlee Dack, Sue Patterson and David Bradshaw. All events where well attended and made money for the club. The biggest upset was the cancellation of the much loved resurrected Serpents Tail Prem/1 slalom. This was cancelled due to the new owners of the Chain Bridge Hotel being unable to support the event in a way that the previous owners did. It is unlikely that this event will ever run again. This coming year we are planning to run three events again, including; Holme Pierrepont Div 1 on the weekend of the 2 nd & 3 rd May, Marple Div 3/4 on the weekend of the 4 th & 5 th July, and (hopefully) Marple Div 3/4 on the weekend of the 5 th & 6 th September. The September slalom is currently on the calendar for the August bank holiday weekend, but as a committee we feel this will be poorly attended and are looking to change this to the first weekend in September or cancel it. Other Notable Achievements Jade Hollick is the national 2014 K1W Junior Champion. Jade Hollick is the national 2014 K1W J16 Junior Champion. Elliot Davidson is ranked 134 in the ICF s K1M Slalom World Ranking. Johnathan Akinyemi is ranked 231 in the ICF s K1M Slalom World Ranking. Amy Hollick is ranked 152 in the ICF s K1W Slalom World Ranking. Status: Approved Page 12 of 17
Appendix G Pool Sessions Report Mark Davies Generally the baths have been well attended. This year we are running three rolling courses, three beginner courses and a rolling attendance for the Marlins for them to learn to roll. The third rolling and beginner courses due to start on the 22 nd of February. This year we have hired both the big and small pools, with the small pool being very handy for the marlins and other younger paddlers. Income so for this year is about 2,100, excluding any income already received from the last rolling and beginner courses. With pool hire and lifeguard fees of about 2,500 we are well on track to covering the costs and making a profit on the pool. Status: Approved Page 13 of 17
Appendix H River Touring Report Andy Brookes Trips River Goyt Regular medium flows later in the year gave us the chance to run some of the Brabyns and Roman Lakes Trips, giving some paddlers their first taste of river running. Mile End Mill A great year for The Mill with sessions seeing double figures on many of the summer evenings. Scotland For the Spring Trip we had low/medium levels; ideal as an introduction to Scotland with the longer days and warmer weather. Thanks again to Loz for organising the November Trip. River Lune At last some water for the Lune Trip! Good to see so many of this year s new faces. Lee Valley Regular trips for assessments and practice to with both slalom and plastic boats. Anglesey Jim ran another brilliant weekend trip of sea kayaking off the West Coast. Can you help? Again, we re always looking for volunteers to help run and support club trips, up to Grade 3. A four Star training weekend will be organised for March/April, with assessments later in the year, for those that want them. Let me know if you re interested in this. Status: Approved Page 14 of 17
