! Dear Student/Parent Welcome to Martial Arts Training Company (also known as MTC*). This student pack has been designed with you in mind. It will assist you with your child s gradings, increase their development rate and overall learning ability, and at the same time give you a better understanding of what is required from a MTC martial artist. You are now part of a team who has made the decision to help you and your child begin the very exciting and unforgettable journey to reaching your ultimate goal: the Black Belt and beyond. With each goal they achieve while they train, they are rewarded with a coloured belt or stripe on that belt as acknowledgement of their advancement. Setting achievable goals within the ranking system will help them gain the inspiration they need in obtaining your Black Belt. Our goal is to provide you with all the assistance needed in reaching the highest belt (in the ranking system) and generally it will take for Little Dragons (5+ years), Musketeers (4+ years), Juniors (3+ years) and Titans / Seniors (2.5+ years). Taekwondo Gradings Gradings are an integral part of all our programs as it helps form a foundation for growth create a sense of achievement and improves self-esteem. It also establishes a means of measuring a student s progress. Gradings are also an opportunity to assess development and acknowledge the student for their commitment to training. Being awarded coloured belts and/or a stripe promotes confidence and rewards student achievement. Gradings require students to display a broad range of Taekwondo skills including patterns, selfdefence and Olympic sport competition drills. At the junior/senior level, students are required to learn about the history of MTC, Taekwondo, competition rules and the Korean terminology used by referees to control matches. Gradings for Little Dragons are conducted twice a term (in the middle and at the end) and are internally assessed by the by a certified examiner. Assisted by their coaches, students should train hard, practice and acquire the skills necessary to attain the next grading level. Grading certificates, stripes and recognition awards will normally be presented the following week (if the grading is mid-term) or in the first lesson at the club the following school term. As our Master Instructors, Mr Marsh and Mr Cronin, are registered with the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), all gradings at MTC are recognised with the national body for Taekwondo in Australia in over 1,000 Taekwondo clubs throughout Australia, as well as internationally in 150 nations around the world. Once the Little Dragon student start to achieve their blue belt stripes, the Instructor will discuss with the parent to transition the student into the Musketeer classes. This transition period (usually 1-2 terms) allows the student to watch and join in with the more formal classes. 9 Page
