OPTOMETRY ORIENTATION WEEK EVENTS 2014 Check In, Pictures and Coat Fitting, Breakfast UWSO Welcome Events When: 8:30am-9:30am Where: UW School of Optometry (UWSO) 1 st floor foyer (new wing) What to Bring: Yourself, some ID and $10 for your locker What to Wear: Casual clothes you can move around in When: 9:30am 12:00pm Where: Room 1129 TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 2 ND Come sign in for orientation week, and get your t-shirt and goodie bag! There will be a continental breakfast provided thanks to the school faculty and staff Olympics When: 2:00pm 4:30pm Where: Optometry Green The faculty and staff of the school will officially welcome you to your first year of optometry! Lunch will be provided afterwards. An afternoon full of icebreakers and team-building games to get you to know your class!

Big Sib Matchup Billiards UWSO Events Wine and Cheese Tight and Bright Bowling When: 4:30pm 5:00pm Where: Room 1129 When: 6:45pm 10:00pm Where: Meet at UWSO where buses will take you to The Break Room (29 King St. East, Kitchener) When: 8:30am 6:00pm What to wear: Dress casually (no need for your O-week T-shirt, but do bring your name tag) When: 6:00pm 8:00pm What to wear: Dress code is business casual When: 8:15pm -10:30pm Where: Meet at UWSO and we will take a bus to Frederick Lanes (385 Frederick St, Kitchener) What to wear: the theme for the night is tight and bright so dress accordingly! Find out who your Big Sib is! Don t forget to exchange info and arrange where to meet for the Big Sib BBQ on Thursday! Kick off the first night with some mingling and good times over all-you-can-play pool! Pizza will be provided. A bus will leave back for school at 10pm, but you could stay as late as you want and find your own way home. WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 3 RD Get a glimpse into your future in the clinic as you receive an eye exam from a third year clinical intern. Fourth years interns will supervise so this is a great chance to meet some upper years. You will also be scheduled for a tour of the optometry school facilities. Lunch will be provided. Socialize with faculty, upper year students and your classmates during the wine and cheese event. Come out for a night of bowling! Buses will return to the school at 10:30pm Campus Tour (optional) UWSO Event: When: 9:00am 11:00am 1 st floor foyer (new wing) What to wear: Dress casually (no need for your O-week T-shirt, but do bring your name tag) When: Rotating Schedule Group 1: 11:00am 12:00pm Group 2: 1:00pm 2:00pm Group 3: 2:00pm 3:00pm Group 4: 3:00pm 4:00pm THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 4 TH Not from around here? Want to know where to get your student card, pick-up student loans, and more? Let us show you the ropes around main campus! Orientation to the Witer Learning Resource Centre (WLRC). Lunch on your own.

Big Sib BBQ When: 5:30 pm Where: Meet your Big Sib at the school (or you can arrange somewhere else). He/she will escort you to the BBQ. Enjoy a BBQ hosted by your big sibs! Have fun mingling with other big sibling pairs. Be sure to check with your big sib about what to bring and where to meet. Pub Night When: Be at the first bar by 8:00 pm! (but no earlier) What to wear: You must wear your orientation shirts to take advantage of the bar tabs! This night is going to be a complete blast! This event is a great way to get to know the rest of your class and the upper years. Your big sibling will get you to the first mystery bar, after which we will travel as a group to the other venues. Make sure you are ready with your dancing shoes and for a night full of crazy memories! Kick-off Semi-Formal When: 9:00 pm 1:00 am Where: South Campus Hall - Main Campus What to wear: Dress to impress! FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 TH Get dressed up and dance the night away! All years are invited so come mingle with the whole school! Doors open at 9:00pm.

Canada s Wonderland When: 10:30am 8:00pm Where: Meet in the parking lot behind the school What to bring: Money for food What to wear: Dress for the weather (there s also water rides at the location) SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 6 TH Get ready for a day of thrills and screams at Canada s largest theme park. Test your fear factor on Canada s tallest and fastest roller coasters including the newest ride, Leviathan! Top it off with funnel cake to get the full Canada s Wonderland experience! Ultimate Frisbee, Canadian Association of Optometry Students (CAOS) BBQ, and Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH) Raffle When: 11:30am Where: Columbia Ice Fields (CIF) What to wear: Your O-week T- shirt! SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 7 TH Everyone from all 4 years come out and play this great team sport! If you'd rather not run around throwing a plastic disc then come out and cheer on your year! Following the frisbee tournament, there will be a Cheer-Off between all 4 years. Be sure to practice and show off your school spirit! During this event there will also be a VOSH raffle that you do not want to miss out on. Some of the prizes include some very expensive optometry equipment that you will need. Tickets for this raffle will be on sale all week. Brick Brewery Tour When: 5:45 pm and we will take public transit together to Brick Are you sick of consuming water? Well look no further, because we are going to the Brick Brewery, a magical place which serves an ancient, refreshing drink consisting of the

Brewery on King St. What to bring: Your ID & your Watcard student ID (it acts as your free bus pass) finest hops and grains available in the KW area. Buy your tickets to the brewery tour from Celina Caprini during the first days of orientation week (over the lunch breaks). This event is a blast, giving you all a chance to just sit back and chill with each other and an open bar for three hours! Limited amount of tickets are available and thus first-come, first-served! Mystery Trip When: TBD (depending on class schedule but likely 3:00pm) Where: If we told you, it wouldn t be a mystery now would it? What to wear: Dress business casual and for the weather as you will be outside for a portion of the trip! A tip for the ladies: wear shoes you can walk in. MONDAY SEPTEMBER 8 TH Just because classes have started doesn t mean we stop having fun. We re just getting started!
