September 2011 ISSUE NO. 1 WOLVERINE REPORT Join a group! Volunteer! EAST MILLS COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT The East Mills Community School District is fortunate to have three support organizations that raise funds and provide additional opportunities for our students. The East Mills Parent Teacher Organization or PTO includes K-8 grades. The group had their organizational meeting last week, but they would welcome additional volunteers! The group will be meeting once a month at 6:15 pm in the EMMS media room at the present time. As more patrons become involved, they are open to rotating between both campuses. Meeting dates are listed on the school webpage under District/Parents. The East Mills Boosters includes volunteers from the Middle School through High School, but also welcomes anyone that supports EM. This group rotates between EMHS and EMMS (check the school calendar for location) and usually meets at continued on page 2 New Staff at EM! We have lots of new faces at East Mills this year! Starting on the left is Kenneth Myers - HS Math, Kelli Brammer - EMMS associate, Melissa Nielsen - Title 1 Reading at Chantry, Kara Englebrect - Special Education at NV, Kristin Anderson - Fifth Grade Lang. Arts/Science, Alexis Woodward- Shared Librarian, Robin Mullins - Special Education associate at Chantry, Jerry Adams - associate at EMHS, and John Leininger - Shared Industrial Arts. Welcome to the East Mills Community School District! We re glad you chose us! Congratulations to Luke Schafer for being chosen Flex Physical Therapy s Player of the Week by KMA s sport staff! These three young ladies were chosen for the All Mills Co. Team in softball - Jessika Lynn, Devon Laughlin and Jordan Jennings Charlie Ruff, and Luke Schafer were selected for the All-Mills Co. Team in baseball. These men along with Daniel Duysen were also First Team Corner Conference Coaches Selections.

7pm once a month on Wednesday nights. East Mills Boosters sponsors such events as Whose Line is it?, tailgates, greenery sales, garbage bag sales, concession stands, and much more. The group helps support all extracurricular activities including athletics, music, speech and art. Please join us at our next meeting! Officers and meeting dates are also listed on the webpage under District/ Parents. Our final group is Post Prom Parents. This group is normally made up of junior and senior parents who plan post-prom activities and raise money to support this very important event after Prom. Once again, they would be more than happy to see you at their meetings. Watch the webpage for additional information! Removing the Treeline Right before school started, the EMHS football team helped pick up the remaining branches and debris from removing the treeline on the football field at EMMS. Thanks to Rob Schearer, Chad and Kim Blanchard and Kim Huston for transporting the limbs and cooking for the team! We all appreciate your hard work. The groups all mention how much the community helps out when phone calls are made to parents, but what they also need is your support at events. Help these groups out by contacting an officer or attending a meeting and volunteering your time at an upcoming concession stand or sales event! NEW DISTRICT - NEW WEBSITE Along with the beginning of a new school district, our website has also changed. If you haven t visited us yet, we are located at: www.emschools.org. The page has been divided into five sections. Parent information and information for the whole district is located under the District tab. Take some time to explore the site. And while you re at it, sign up for the newsletter update. We ll be sending out emails on new articles on the web. www.emschools.org

Oops! You Can t Take It With You Fall Play at EMHS by Michael Carey Chantry Elementary Winter Concert We noticed that the school calendar was printed with some of the activities not visible. One of those is the Chantry Elementary Winter Concert. It will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the EMHS. Please pass this date on to family and friends! Veterans Day Program Both campuses will attend a Veterans Day Program at EMHS on Nov. 11. Please watch the website for updated information. On November 4 & 5, East Mills High School will present the comedy You Can t Take it With You by the ever-popular playwriting team of Kaufman and Hart. Drama sponsors Michael and Kelly Carey are looking for a cast of 19: about seven men, nine women and three extras. (Genders of some characters may change depending upon the genders of those who try out.) The Story: At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. The plot shows how Tony, attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore home on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by the Kirbys, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores, however, though sympathetic to Alice, find it hard to realize her point of view. Meantime, Tony, who knows the Sycamores are right and his own people wrong, will not give her up, and in the end Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores, particularly since he happens in during a visit by an ex-grand Duchess, earning her living as a waitress. No mention has as yet been made of the strange activities of certain members of the household engaged in the manufacture of fireworks; nor of the printing press set up in the parlor; nor of Rheba the maid and her friend Donald; nor of Grandpa's interview with the tax collector when he tells him he doesn't believe in income tax.

Thank you to Friends of the Library and the PTO! What s the beginning of school without the official welcoming kick-off luncheon from the Friends of the Library and the PTO? The answer: it s not official! The new staff begins to hear rumors of just how good this luncheon is before they ever walk in the door of the Community Building and it s always the salad bar and desserts that draw the most attention. Once again, these groups volunteered their time for one of the best meals of the year. Thanks for your hard work and interest in what we do! Email and Cell phone Alert Announcements! Sign up to receive alert announcements sent directly to your cell phone or e-mail any time your school needs to send information about school changes. You will always be the first to know and you don't even have to turn on the television or radio. Information about your school and your schools activities are delivered immediately to you, wherever you are. Signing up is easy. Just look for the cell phone or laptop on our home page, enter your school name and complete your contact information. Malvern and Nishna Valley will shortly be combined as East Mills CSD. If you are searching for our school district on the search engine at Snowcap - you will need to type in East Mills CSD, or it will not show up. You could also type in just 'East' and a list of all schools with East in their names will show up and you can find us that way. Even if you signed up last year, you will need to do so again this year to ensure we have your current information. www.snowcaponline.net
