-JUNIOR TIGER TALK- Mitcham Cricket Club - Junior Section Newsletter Feb 2017 Mitcham Cricket Club Inc. Established 1883 Walker Park, Nunawading PO Box 2001 Rangeview Vic, 3132 Website www.mitchamcc.vic.cricket.com.au mitchamcc@hotmail.com President Ken O Meara 0408 067 498 Secretary Steve Simpson 0418 363 538 Finals Close For Tiger Juniors As we approach the final home and away round of the cricket season, it is pleasing to see many of Mitcham s junior teams in contention for a finals berth. It all comes down to the last game for the under 14A and 14B (Sat) teams where a win will secure a top 4 position while the under 12A and 12B sides have locked in their spots in the top 4. Unfortunately the under 16A and under 14B (Fri) Tigers will not be part of the finals but will at least finish closer to the top 4 than the bottom of the ladder. As usual there have been some very good individual performances in rounds 6, 7 and 8 so please check out all the names inside this newsletter. Well done to the many boys who have made their top score or taken their best bowling figures during the season. Please take note of the date for JUNIOR PRESENTATION Sunday 26 th March which will be held in two shifts over the afternoon and evening. This is due to the fact that we have too many teams from under 10 s up to 16 s to hold their presentations together as in the past especially without the oval for the kids to run around on. See details inside this newsletter. The senior and junior committees of the club have recently been working on a framework for the position of Junior Coaching Coordinator for next season. The club intends to devote significant resources to ensure we find the best person to fill this position and continue to effectively develop our junior cricketers. To all teams, players and coaches, whether involved the finals or not, good luck for your upcoming games and well done on your efforts over the season. Go Tigers! Mitcham C.C. Junior Committee Steve Tully Andrew Cumming Stephen Hardie Darby McLeod Nick Oakes Dave Patrick

Outstanding Performances In Juniors There were two outstanding achievements by Mitcham junior cricketers over the last 3 rounds which rank with any in the club s junior history. Well done to Alistair Hardie who scored his first century, 104 in the under 16A s round 7 game against Heathmont. Not satisfied with one ton, Al then proceeded to match it in the afternoon. Playing in the club s 3 rd XI against Kerrimuir United he scored 112 and shared a match-winning partnership of 203 with captain Andy Cumming. It is almost certain that Al s achievement of two centuries in the one day has never been matched in Mitcham s history. On the day of his 12 th birthday, under 12A left-arm fast bowler Luke Tully produced a 2 over spell as destructive as you would see in cricket. With Heathmont s score at 1/13 off 12 overs when Luke came on to bowl, his ball by ball bowling analysis then read:.. x 1. x x x x. x. Heathmont s innings had plummeted to 8/15 as Luke took figures of 6 for 1 off 2 overs including a double hat-trick and a quadruple wicket maiden. Five of Luke s wickets were bowled and 1 was lbw. He later returned for a third over which went for 5 runs giving him final figures of 6 for 6 as Heathmont were bowled out for 30. Mitcham went on to win the game by 140 runs on the 1 st innings but missed out by a solitary wicket in achieving an outright victory. Incredibly Luke had also taken a hat-trick in figures of 5 for 14 two days previously playing in an under 14 RDCA T20 game for Heathmont Baptists against St.Andrews. Luke s feat is probably also a unique one at Mitcham C.C. as there is no record of a junior bowler ever having taken a double hat-trick previously. Congratulations to both Alistair and Luke. Other top individual performances in rounds 6, 7 and 8 have been: 60 retired Daniel Killeen U14B (Sat) v. Doncaster Round 6 50 retired Mitch Brooker U14A v. East Doncaster Round 6 50 retired Mitch Brooker U14A v. East Doncaster Round 7 50 retired Joel Michaelson U14A v. East Doncaster Round 7 5/2 Liam Tully U12A v. Heathmont Round 7 Junior Presentation 2016/17 Sunday 26 th March At the clubrooms Under 10, 12 & T20 Blast 4 to 5:30pm Under 14 & 16 6 to 7:30pm Featuring: BBQ, salads & a cricket bat to be raffled All junior cricketers & their families are welcome

Mitcham s Rep Players Step Up Well done to all Mitcham s junior representative players on their performances back in January. Teams which enjoyed most success were Brad Moritz s Emus who were premiers and Brad Oakes under 12 Browne side which came runners-up. Well done also to the following coaches/team managers for their contributions: Steve Hardie (U16), Steve Frost (U18) and Darby McLeod (U18). From left: Cal Pietersen, Luke Tully & Brad Oakes Under 10 s Update It would be harder to believe how quickly the season has passed, if not for the noticeable improvement in the skills and game awareness of our Under 10 Tigers. Throughout the season, we have focused on bowling with the correct action, playing proper cricket shots when batting, and staying involved in the field. All of our boys have bowled at least one batsman, can all play beautiful front-foot drives, and have all had at least one direct-hit run out or catch in the field. We continue to be the best presented Under 10 team in the East, and enjoy our cricket with the support of a friendly group of parents. Many of the boys are already looking forward to making the step to Under 12 s, with scores, wins and losses, and ladders. Anthony Grace (Under 10 Black team coach)

Fast Bowling Clinic & Comp Mitcham junior cricketers in under 12, 14 and 16 age groups are invited to a fast bowling clinic and challenge on Sunday 12 th March at the nets at Walker Park from 3 to 5pm. The session will include training and coaching and a speed detector will be in action to see how fast the boys can bowl. Come along to see who is the fastest bowler in each team and if you can bowl faster than your dad! Most recently we have increased the number of match simulations and it was great to see our kids, parents and guardians take up the opportunity to participate last Friday as well. As this season of Milo/in2cricket draws to a close, the highlight had to be seeing eight of our youngsters take to the field during the lunch break on the third day of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG to showcase their skills! A huge thankyou to all those who have assisted this season notably Adam Johnson, Leigh Walters and Colin Lavelle. Brad Lavelle (Milo coordinator)
