Thorsby Elementary School Cub Connection www.tes.blackgold.ca M A Y 2 0 1 6 It has been one year since the devastating wildfires of Fort McMurray. This solemn anniversary brought two things to mind. First, I am blown away with how quickly time passes. It is said that as you get older, time goes more quickly. That is so true! Second, I have always been proud of where I live. The support and compassion shown to the people of Fort McMurray from our province during this time was incredible. We are Alberta Strong! Being a Canadian, an Albertan, and most importantly, from the Thorsby area is an important part of my Message from the Principal identity. I wasn t born and raised here - I am a transplant. I came to Thorsby to teach halftime in 1994. It was a temporary placement. I thought I would do the halftime contract and move on. It s been 23 years, I m still here, and I love our community! Many of us have also embraced the Oilers during the hockey playoffs. When we had our Oilers Day here at school, it was amazing to see how many students wore jerseys, hats, touques and brought flags and banners. The spirit, enthusiasm, and support that the Edmonton area is showing to the Oilers adds to that sense of pride of where we live. These things are what makes a community so rich and full - pride, support, care and compassion. Whether we relate this to our country, or our school community, we need to celebrate how fortunate we are. Getting back to thinking about Fort McMurray, I hope they are on the road to rebuilding their great community. Go Oilers! Raylene Jubinville
