Coach Dwayne Tip Improving your footwork will make you more consistent with your shots: When you run for a wide ball you take big steps to get to the ball. As you approach and get closer you need to adjust your steps (smaller) to gain your balance while you are hitting the ball. This will allow you to keep the ball at a good distance so not to jam yourself with your swing, allowing you also to recover quicker without having to take extra steps to regain your balance. Queen City Tennis League Teams are set and will be ready to play their first doubles matches on September 15/16, 2010. Fast Facts, Q s and A s 286 Individuals Responded to the On-Line Survey. 622 unique e-mail addresses were assembled from the Whispers distribution list and e-mail distributions from various members. At the time the survey was sent, the club had 514 member families 53% of those that responded have been members for 5 or more years. 75% of Respondents said they use the pool 75% of Respondents said they use the tennis facilities 80% Said they read Whispers Frequently Results of the WSRC Member Survey Part 2 of a 3 Part Series The 2010 Survey of Weddington Swim and Racquet members was conducted to measure the thoughts and opinions of members regarding many areas of the club. This Whispers article will focus on Tennis. The final article in the October issue will focus on what actions will be taken on the pool areas of the club, as a result of the survey. There are three areas of focus; Courts, Women s Tennis, Men s Tennis. Courts: Here are the actions that either have been taken or will be taken as a result of the survey: Court Maintenance in general With the new courts coming on, we plan to hire additional help for morning court maintenance as well as afternoon postwatering court prep for evening play. Players are encouraged to sweep the courts after they play so the next players will have a nice court Courts are currently rolled 2-3 times a week and lines are maintained as needed. If you see lines that need attention, please notify Mike Murphy. The sprinkler heads for courts 1-4 will be adjusted in an attempt to even out the watering. We do plan to add bag hooks to the court pavilions this fall. With the new construction we are trying to improve the drainage between current courts 11-12. New run-off patterns from the new courts may require additional attention. We will address those as needed. We will add 1 ton of clay material to current courts 10-13 as they are low on clay. Planned for the week of September 7-11 Only 30% said they use the website Frequently 40 Printed Pages of write-in comments were submitted Q. I did not receive the Survey! Why? A. We either didn t have your e- mail or we had a bad e-mail. Your opinion still matters. If you see something that needs attention, speak up! Also, Give Lori a good e- mail. Women s Tennis: Women's Queen City Tennis at Weddington continues to produce Division Winners since the inception of Tennis Pro selected teams as voted upon and approved by our women tennis playing members. The teams now in their second year of playing under the new format produced three division winners this past Spring. We will continue with the Intent To Participate format after USTA ratings are released at the end of the year. All interested tennis players will be placed on QCTL teams for the next calendar year (committing to play for two QCTL seasons - Spring and Fall). USTA Teams will continue to be selected and fielded by women captains of our club as was the consensus of the women present at the last Ladies Tennis Meeting. Captain communication is key especially if the complexion of such team changes from season to season and if a captain is no longer going to field a team. Playing spots for all club members are found before opening up teams to "outside" players. Outside players are charged a fee per season and are limited to playing for two consecutive seasons. Men s Tennis For the fall season the men s tennis program experimented with a web-form approach to assist with the player-created teams and to help place new members on teams. We think this approach is an improvement, Your feedback is welcome.
