The President s Bat Welcome to our first Hawk Talk edition for 016/017. I would like to send a special welcome to all those new families with the Hawks this season. This year we have 8 teams playing from U8 through to our Open division which is U16 to U18. This season, as with last season, we do not have half and full season competitions as in past years. There will be separate competitions before and after Xmas so it will be possible for your team to win two competitions throughout the full season. After Xmas when some players go off to play for their schools, we will re-arrange teams to fill any vacancies. This is usually only for teams from U1 upwards. This year we will be again sending out the Hawk Talk electronically. This reduces costs and certainly takes a load off the time spent by our Editor, Eddie Mills. It also allows us more flexibility to highlight the various products of our very generous sponsors. Thank you to all those people who have volunteered to be coaches or managers. This season we only had to find a few new coaches, mostly in the younger age groups, which says a great deal about our retention rate. The parents of this club appreciate the work that is being done by these wonderful people and have every confidence in the way their children are being cared for. Remember parents that this is your club and any help that you can offer makes life easier for coaches/managers/scorers and club officials. We are all volunteers. On training nights you can help out by being prompt when picking up children. Your team officials will not leave until all kids are collected so be considerate to them. On game days support your team and the opposition in a positive manner. Our children will model our behaviour. Winning humbly is as important as congratulating the opposition when they are successful. Scoring and umpiring can sometimes be very stressful so please help your team by being supportive of those who have put their hand up to do the tasks that provide games for your children. I would not like to see cricket as being a child minding service on Saturday mornings. We don t have the construction work dramas which hindered our season last year. The new clubhouse which will be shared between cricket, hockey and AFL should be completed before Xmas. It will have meeting or function rooms as well as gyms, change rooms and storage space. It will also mean that there are no more fences or demountable buildings. Until that building is complete we ask that you use the toilet facilities on the southern side of the building. I recommend that you support all the generous sponsors who make a significant contribution to our club and allow us to provide the excellent facilities and equipment to enable the players to achieve their playing potential. Steve Casey

The Sponsor s Spin We recognise the fantastic contributions of our valued sponsors. We have many businesses that sponsor our club and this has enabled us to provide a sport at a reasonable cost and at the same time to keep your club financially sound. Please express your appreciation for the sponsors contributions by using these businesses wherever possible. On behalf of the Albany Creek Hawks Cricket Club we sincerely thank L.J. Hooker Albany Creek Hyperclean and Albany Village Meats, Audit & Tax Accountants Albany Creek, Keith Dudgeon Cricket Specialist, Premier Cricket, RecoverWise, Simply Pest Control and Zenith Promotions We look forward to all our sponsor s continued support. With much appreciated help from our sponsors, your club is able to provide you with an excellent standard of facilities at a comparatively low cost and we will strive to continue this in the future. We sincerely thank Jason & Melinda Chandler of L.J. Hooker our club shirt sponsor and Cassie & Corie Morrad of Hyperclean our Friday Night Cricket sponsor for their valued assistance and hope that their business grows as a result of their association with the HAWKS.

SOME SIMPLE HOUSEKEEPING RULES FOR THE SEASON Please keep our fields tidy and remove all rubbish at the end of training and matches, There are several rubbish bins placed around the net and field areas. This applies for all grounds used during the season, i.e. schools and opposition fields Restrooms at all grounds are for everyone s use and convenience. Please leave them in a tidy condition and report any issues to your team manager. When entering the South Pine Sports Complex at any time, please travel at the signed speed limit for everyone s safety, especially during night cricket when visibility is limited. Please park only in designated parking spots and refrain from parking on lawns around the complex. Please ensure that net and field lights are turned off at the end of training sessions. Non-club members can not utilise the lights at any times and the lock codes are made available to club coaches for Hawks members only. We frequently find items left behind after matches or training. Please ensure to check your areas for any items before leaving the field. If you have left something behind you can email us on accc@albanycricketclub.com.au. Generally any lost items are kept in our club canteen for a short period of time until claimed.

It is club policy that all batsmen MUST wear a Helmet when batting. Wicket-Keepers MUST wear a helmet if keeping up close to the stumps, regardless of the style of bowling. This is a Cricket Australia and BNJCA rule and as such it is non-negotiable. NO HELMET - NO PLAY!

Page 14 Saturday 17 & 4/09/016 WAREHOUSE B 17 & 4/09/016 1 st Inn Albany Creek Vs 19 Yesterday s Heroes 158 Batting: Corie Morrad 0 Andrew Beighton 17 Kyle Millard 16 Bowling: Corie Morrad 4/35 Sam Beighton /43 Logan Otto 1/14 Fielding: Catch to Shane, Casey got behind the stumps, and Dan Brown got 1, GAME REPORT: We bowled first, and in the first over, Shane Mackellar was horizontal at gully pulling in a screamer. Our bowling was really tight to start, but they were just managing to find a boundary consistently in every over in the middle part of the innings. Corie bowled well for his 4 wickets, also missing out on a hat trick. A couple of dropper catches or near chances that could have gone our way, and we would have been chasing a much smaller total. When we came to bat, Corie and Andrew got us off to a great start, and after only losing a couple of wickets, we were on track at drinks at 3/7. A couple of maidens in a row after drinks, and we found ourselves under pressure to score, and a couple of wickets was the result. Kyle and Jack put up some resistance, but we were really undone by the tight spell in the middle. Logan came in at the end and flashed a couple of boundaries, showing what might be a new style of batting for him, and we ended all out, 8 runs short. There's no doubt we are a better long form team, but we will need to play well through the middle one day season games if we are to be finals contenders. Man of The Match: Corrie Morrad 4/35 & 0 Manager: WAREHOUSE C1 Colin Otto 17 & 4/09/016 1 st Inn Albany Creek Vs 5 Toowong 11 5/118 Batting: LAURENCE WRIGHT 56 Harry Rehm 48 Barry McDougall 4 Jose Pais 4 Bowling: Michael Reid /7 /11 Adam Keaton /11 0/3 Scott Macdonnell /31 0/6 Fielding: Catches to Barry McDougall (3), Adam Keaton (), Kaurence Wright (), Dane Butler, Callum Brooks GAME REPORT: A great start by the Hawks with a 1st Innings win over Toowong. The visitors won the toss and elected to field. Hawks capitalised on this decision and batted out the entire first day finishing up all out for 5. Runs came from most of the batting line up with a wonderful performance from L. Wright 56 and sublime innings from the two new lads; H Rehm 48 and D Humphrey 41. The start of day two saw Toowong come out to bat and almost immediately the wickets started to tumble. Once again a whole team effort saw the visitors all out for a measly 11. Best of the bowlers with impressive figure were M. Reid /7 and A. Keaton /11. Sharp fielding saw 4 catches taken with B. McDougall snaring with the gloves. Such a low total from Toowong meant the follow-on was enforced with the hopes of snaring an outright victory. Although the Hawks didn't achieve that goal the intensity and commitment from the team was still strong right through to stumps. Again M.Reid bowled brilliantly with /11 and some very sharp slips fielding from L.Wright taking catches. Well done Hawks. A great start to the 16/17 season! GAME REPORT: We won the toss and elected to bat. We lost Dan early, then Col joined Andrew at the crease for a 163 run nd wicket stand, finally ending when Col was dismissed for 77. Andrew went on to post his ton before finally being out pushing the score. We lost a few more before Sam came to the crease to post a well played 38, before we declared at the end of play on 9/50. We were hoping to get wickets early and push through to enforce the follow on, but a couple of missed chances and some patient batting from our opposition put a stop to that. Sam, Andrew and Logan bowled very tight early on, and their batsmen were prepared to sit and wait their spells out. Corie finally made the breakthrough, and we then got a few quick ones before they limped past the follow on total. The Bourbon Brothers, Dean and Dan came on at the end and cleaned up the tail, with Dean on a hat trick at one stage. We went back in for some batting practice, and it looks like we could do with a bit more. 6/58 in the second innings gives our batsmen something to think about, and there is some patience to be worked on there. That aside, it was a good win, against last season's premiers, and it shows that we are a side that will be in contention if we can continue to play well. Congrats to the Bourbon Brothers on their first senior club wickets, and also to Andrew for a masterful display in the first innings. Man of the Match: Andrew Beighton Manager: Colin Otto

Hawks batted first. The star of the first innings was B. McDougall with an absolutely marvelous innings, setting a club record for C1 and potentially nd highest score for any grade in club history. He was well supported with a fine display of batting prowess by A.Keaton who notched up a solid ton too. Peninsula were never in the game from the get go, as the Hawks rolled them for a measly total. A. Keaton proved he is more than just a batsmen, taking 5 wickets off 10 overs. At the other end, C.Brooks supported with well wickets of his 10 overs. Rather than enforce the follow on, The Hawks batted again adding another quick fire total and declared for the second time. This gave Peninsula what would prove to be an insurmountable 478 to chase down in roughly 30 overs. Best of the second innings were J.Chokshi and S. Macdonnell. A repeat of the 1st innings saw the Hawks rattle through the opposition again, thus securing the outright win. Once again A. Keaton starred with the ball taking 6 wickets of just 5 overs. The fielding efforts of the team have also improved and undoubtedly helped secure the win. Leading the way were D. Butler snaring catches and L. Jones taking 3. Well done Hawks. Flying high! Danny Costello bowled well taking two wickets. Straighter bowling will be a focus in the coming weeks. The boys showed a lot of enthusiasm and are keenly looking forward to week. GAME REPORT: It was a great quality game between the teams considering the number of boys having their first game. The black hawks won the toss with Captain Riley choosing to bat first. We got off to a great start with Riley and Aiden scoring well early. Aiden hit a number of 4 s on his way to 1. Cooper and Jim held up the middle, with Jim top scoring with 9 and Cooper getting 16. Bayliss and Joshua kept up the good batting performance right to the end, all the boys were very happy with their first team batting performance all the way to the end. As coach the most impressive part of the game for me was how keen all the boys were in the field with the concentration of all fielder being a highlight. Joshua and Bayliss got us off to a great start bowling and this followed all the way through the team. The game was great fun and played in excellent spirit by both teams. Rod / Nicole

A great start by the Green Hawks bowling lineup to the U9 Black Hawks who scored a sizeable total of 70 runs. Unfortunately the black Hawks had 11 outs which reduced their total to 37. The Black Hawks capitalised on the chase early and batted out their first match of the season finishing up with an impressive 144 runs. Runs came from most of the batting line up with a wonderful performance from Thomas and sublime innings from Tanish and Joshua Prince. Best of the bowlers with impressive figures were Jeremy, Janelle and Tanush. Sharp fielding saw some great catches taken in addition to some sharp run outs. A great start to the 16/17 season! Players really enjoyed the first game and came together well as a team on the first outing out. We had some great run-outs with two catches from Christian and Charles as well. Our bowling and batting was solid, We had some newcomers to our team: Zade Bews, Declan Kewrick, Jack Meehan, Sean Van Breda and Mason Turner, who all did very well in their first game, well done boys. Congratulations to Sam for bowling 1-3 and Cohen Wiseman, Beau Ward and Sam for our 3 runouts. Henry Patrick was our highest run scorer on 5. The boys enjoyed their first match and it was a great lesson for our newcomers about what to expect for the season ahead. We will now train on areas for improvement and look forward to our next match. Heather Toye / Vanessa Patrick

A great spell of bowling from Jemeson 3/14 removing the top order. Day came and after losing a wicket in the first over Kirran fought hard with a good knock of and set the pace for the day. A brilliant last wicket partnership from Noah and injured Lachlan held their bat, both fighting hard and retiring after the 60 balls putting some frustration back towards Valleys. Unfortunately the boys pulled up short, but very proud of the day fight back from all. Barry McDougall / Mark Murphy

Late resistance from Callison and Jack, and the return of the retired batsmen saw Daniel record his first 50 and David his first 100, with Darcy solid in support. Stevie Johnston started the second day with a wicket first ball of the innings, grabbed another in his second over, then received fine support from Joel, Tom, Callison (1/4 with a good C&B), leaving David to clean up the tail (/9). The Valley second innings started with a lot of near misses, and as luck no longer seemed to be on our side, the only highlight was a second wicket in the day for Cal. Still a well deserved victory. It was a great follow up to last week with another very competitive game. The black Hawks won the toss with captain Cooper choosing to bat first. It was tough going with the bat this week with a very tight bowling performance from the opposition that gave us very few free hits (well done boys). That said our boys tried their hardest all the way to the end and posted a competitive score. Again we did our best bowling and in the field with the highlight being a caught and bowled by Jim. Congratulations to player of the match Joshua who s batting, bowling and keenness in the field was excellent. The game was great fun and played in excellent spirit by both teams. GAME REPORT: nd game of the season on a cold October s night with White Hawks up against Black Hawks. The great White Hawks were too strong for courageous Black Hawks with a 69 to 6 run win. GAME REPORT: The green Hawks continued their fine form from the first match with a great start by the Green Hawks lineup to put up a sizeable total of 85 runs with just one out which reduced their total to 8. Runs came from most of the batting line up with a wonderful performance again from Thomas 40 and sublime innings from Jeremy (1) and Tanish (11) Best of the bowlers with impressive figures were Tanish /10. Thomas /6. Sharp fielding saw some great catches taken in addition to some sharp run outs. A special mention for Joshua Prince who fielded brilliantly saving a few runs in the deep! José Pais UNDER 9 BLACK HAWKS 14/10/016 1 st Inn Albany Creek Vs Albany Grey Creek Batting: Bowling: No Player Stats available Fielding: GAME REPORT: A cold and windy night saw the Black Hawks take on the Grey Hawks. The girls lead the charge as we were sent in to bat, a solid opening partnership from Eve and Sarah saw some lovely strokes all around the field making short work of the bowling attack. Quinn was the master blaster hitting freely to help build an awesome score, supported by Eshaan who looked like test material. We had a much improved team effort with the bat with all players putting in a solid effort. In the field we looked dangerous, Parker and Isaac had the ball hooping wildly while Max and Jared were on target in the field with some precision throws. Our kids started to gel as a team. Sam Patrick took a magnificent catch from Mason Turner s bowling. Our batting went well with everyone getting runs despite the difficult pitch. Jackson and Declan bowled really well and worked hard in the field throughout the whole game. Our boys are improving rapidly in areas, which is great to see. The whole team worked hard and the camaraderie, now developed, was great to see. What a difference a week made in our batting, players was much more willing to play the ball and especially Xavier (5 fours) and Jett (3 fours) were swinging the bat freely playing some great pull shots over square leg and fine leg. Players again showed great team spirit; unfortunately we were two players short. I am always looking forward to training on Wednesday as all players are very committed and a few arrive always early for training. Nell Schoeman
