2 The President s Bat Our President Steve and First Lady Kathy are currently on a cricket fact finding mission in Italy and no doubt finding many in the ancient ruins of Rome, this means there won t be a report from Steve this issue. Although, as you can see, the Hawks are never far from their thoughts, literally - loving that hat. On a personal note, I would like to take this opportunity to express the following: having attempted to fill Steve s shoes during his absence, it is necessary to say a big thank you to him and Kathy for all the little things they do on a daily basis, that go unnoticed by all of us. Their continued hard work over endless hours ensures that the wheels of our club keep turning smoothly and don t fall off. Well, the secret is out now, so thank you!!! On behalf of Steve and the entire Committee, I would like to welcome all our new players and families to the club, I am certain you will enjoy your season and all of us are looking forward to many fantastic achievements during the season, some have already happened, as documented in the newsletter. Eddie Mills - Hawk Talk Editor

GAME REPORT: Welcome to A Grade Gentlemen. First game exposed our Achilles Heel immediately - Batting. Andrew looked promising immediately with a first ball 4, unfortunately falling victim to an indisputable LBW. This opened the floodgates to a steady stream of wickets falling. The batsmen found it hard to score and the dots on the scorebook page tell the tale. Our bowling attack jumped straight into action, Dean striking on the 3rd ball of the first over, removing one of the opposition s danger men for a second ball duck. and trust me, that was brilliant. This guy can hit the ball pretty neatly. According to their scorer, he has never seen him get out for a duck. Corie was on a hat-trick in his first over, taking care of another 2 hard hitters. Unfortunately the low total of runs to chase didn t pose a challenge to the opposition and they quickly put an end to the game. Hopefully we are now rid of the A-Grade nerves and jitters and can play some great cricket. Looking forward to next week. Sam struck on the first ball of the first over, assisted by Kyle with a brilliant catch.. The wickets tumbled steadily, seeing the opposition 3/44 at the drinks break. After drinks, two of the opposing batsmen dug their heels in and they started to increase the run rate with some big hitting and lucky shots. This eliminated our hopes of keeping them below or around the 100 runs for us to chase. Our top order batsmen all made a good start but tumbled earlier than hoped for, leaving us 3/53 in the 14th over. Kyle (32 of 32 balls) and Dean (25 of 29 balls) took over and capitalised on some wayward bowling at times and accelerated the scoring rapidly with some big hitting. Then we had another batting collapse losing 4 wickets for 4 runs. Sending our lower order batsmen into a mad frenzy to pad up, just in case. This brought Will and Chris to the crease. Will smashed a quick 24 of 21 balls to take us to the win, well supported by Chris. Onwards to game 3. The opposition had a hit out early before Matt struck in the 12th over. We had them at 3/47, after Corie knocked over a couple in quick succession, but then they put together a good partnership. Mark Andersen came on to pick up one in his first over, then another 2 in his third. A couple of medium partnerships saw them make 212, which as a batting side you are in a good position. We lost Slothy early but Col and Tom (42 p/s) and then Col and Corie (61p/s) steadied the ship with solid partnerships. We started to fall behind on run rate, and we losing regular wickets to be 8/140. At this point, Casey, who was hitting the ball well, but straight to the fielders, found touch, and started nailing the gaps and boundaries. With Matt supporting at the non-strikers end, they put together a quick 40 runs, but it was always up against not enough overs to go, and eventually we lost Casey going after the big shots to try to get us home. Overall, a good start for us. We probably went for a few too many runs, and bowled a little too wide to allow them some freedom to swing the ball over the top of our fielders. Whilst 212 is a bigger score to have to chase, they bowled well, and we wasted a few too many balls outside off that we could have picked of a few extra runs. A good effort, but we need to bowl tighter lines and get the strike rotating a little more often. Man of the Match - Mark Andersen for his 3/40. Manager: Colin Otto

This is where it all started to go wrong for us. Jack Nixon was well caught in the 4th over. Tom and Col toiled to some good bowling before Tom was out pulling, and we were 2/25. We then lost 5 wickets for 1 run, and the game was as good as over. Shane and Col has a small partnership, and then Logan and Col had some rearguard action for us to limp to 75. It was never going to be enough. Matt and Logan started very well, bowling great line and length, and we had them 2/15, with a sniff. Mark picked up the next one with the score on 35, but then they steadied and passed us without further loss. Catches today to Col, Jack Mac and Dan. Manager: Colin Otto IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO TEAM MANAGERS Please ensure to enter Match Results as soon as possible after each match to avoid losing competition points. WCA will lock matches 15 days after matches have been completed and no changes can be made once that happens. Ensure to enter player statistics for each as soon as possible. Players become ineligible to participate in finals if they don t have proof that they have completed the required number of matches in the season. That eligibility is determined through MyCricket, as are potential club and/or WCA awards on season completion.
