Brisbane Water Cricket Club Inc. Better check the scorebooks Thank you to all the well-wishers and adoring fans for wondering where the match reports went to of late. All that matters is that they re back and I hope you enjoy reading this week s update. What s going on at your club? We ve done a deal with the big fat man in a red suit and have chartered a helicopter (yes, a REAL one) to deliver him to Adcock Park #1 on December 16. That s the date of our club Christmas Party where we invite you to come and watch the end of First Grade s match and then enjoy a free BBQ in the company of your club-mates. Drinks will be available in the canteen and we look forward to seeing you there. Check out the club Facebook page for full details. A trivia night is also being organised for February, so more on that later. T20 Blast continues to excite the crowds and we re happy to report the game has now moved to Adcock Park each Saturday morning. We have 21 players in Bluetongues colours having a great time each week and I think it s great the way the parents have embraced scoring via the CA Junior Format scoring app!
Our 14C team clutches onto 4 th spot on their ladder despite a run of losses due mainly to a lack of numbers each week. Their latest match saw just 9 players fight it out with Southern Spirit and despite a great showing with the bat to post 4/100, it is just too hard to contain teams when the full number of fielders is not available. The players of our u12a and 12B sides need to be commended week after week for turning up and giving it everything they have! To be honest, they ve had a tough season in a high grade but they re ready to play every week and I think we all know that s not easy to do. The teams need to know we care about them and on behalf of the club I extend a big warm hug to you all for your honour and perseverance! Which brings us to the u11 team that is producing plenty of interest. In the newly modified format, the team is developing their skills and this week we shine a light onto Darragh for his continued batting prowess in notching up an impressive average of 111 for the season. A great effort in his first regular season with the Bluetongues. A team photo will grace these pages shortly. The highflying 16B combined team continues to march through the comp undefeated. Coached by our 7 th Grade Captain, Col, the team is enjoying scoreboard success and more importantly the team is working as a cohesive unit. Our players contributions have been significant in underpinning the team s success and the team has provided a haven for a number of players still a bit young for Senior duties. Mitch continues to dominate with the bat, averaging 58 whilst Ayden and Sophie shine with the ball to show economy rates of just 1.7 runs per over. Their story is far from finished.
Senior Teams. Our u21 and Open men s teams both had sizable victories against Lisarow in the T20 competition. The 21 s posted 7/145 on the back of Ben with a run-a-ball 34, Lachlan s 29, to then be added by Lewis 16 from 10, and Jordan s 14 from 11. Receiving 21 extras definitely helped. The opposition was rolled for just 77 with tight bowling from everyone that forced 4 run outs! As for wickets, 3/14 for Matt, 2 from 17 for Michael, and 1/9 to Dane in a clinical display of how to defend a score. The Opens team followed a similar pattern as the team piled on 9/147 in their 20 overs. Matt shone with 44 from 27 after retiree Ben shows he still has a lot to offer with 26 from 20. Keegan stunned the crowd with his shot positioning and remained not out on 25 from 16 deliveries. Lisarow were never really in the game after falling to 3 for 4 inside the first 2 overs. Matt topped off a great day with 2 wickets, as did Michael and Will. Youngsters Alex, Dane and Mitch bagged a wicket each to help restrict the opposition to 107 and pop a valuable 4 points in the bag. Seventh Grade v. The Pat Morley Oval. Captain Col likes to bat first and the decision was easy when he won the toss yet again. Several of the boys started off well with Liam the first to go with 16, Jack fired in a healthy 27, and Marley was strong with 26. Subway Sam was the pick of the batters today, frustratingly cut down on 46, which took our total to 7/152 before the rain once again stopped play. Day 2 will be a cracker! Sixth Grade v. Northern Adcock #7. We lost the toss and had to bowl on a muggy overcast afternoon. Luckily Jason was able to throw down his zimmer frame and relish in the conditions! With 5/37 from his 10.1 overs, he continued the form we know he s capable of producing which also laid the platform for Lee to bag 3/13 from 6, Mick 2 for 9 from 6, Tony 0/10 from his 6 and Dave 0/4 from 4. After 32 overs, with just 76 runs on the board, Jason bagged his 5 th for the game and team confidence was never higher. Only one stumble in the run chase with Michael back on the sideline with 2, leaving the experienced Herbie (18*) and Lee (25*) at 1/46, giving Blocker plenty to think about the possibility of maximum points.
Fifth Grade v. Northern Harry Moore #2 A sole player in the opposition became a road-block and stopped certain annihilation and embarrassment for the opposition. However, his 82 out of the total of 131 is not the headline. The magic of the day was seeing him become the prize SIXTH WICKET for SK from his 15 th over after conceding 65 runs. Captain Bill also conceded 65 runs from his 14 overs and took the other 4 wickets in the innings. The score shows a clean sheet of extras so I m wondering where the extra 1 run came from? We started our run chase and sit 0/25 with Alexander on 19 and Michael on 21. Yep better check the scorebooks on this one. Fourth Grade v. Southern Adcock #3 Toss won and we re batting. The total of 171 is an impressive show for the innings with many players getting a start but not going on with it. Put a spotlight on Ewan, who ducked and weaved, blocked and drove his way to an impressive 77 runs, including 13 boundaries. His partnership with Nick (28) took the game from 7/78 to 8/157 and the opposition left the ground dragging their heels wondering how it all happened. No surprise the rain also ended their Day 1. Third Grade v. Southern Col Gooley Oval #3 (Umina) Frosty was back in charge of the team and took the new ball when the opposition chose to bat first. 19 overs later he walked off the oval with figures of 4/22 with 9 maidens a stellar bowling Masterclass for the growing crowd. Young gun Hadyn (3/37 from 8) must have paid attention as he also shared in the spoils and earned his spot in this Grade. Joel was thrown the ball and he didn t disappoint as he closed out the innings on 97 with 2 wickets from his only over a maiden too! That excitement must have been too much as Joel (0) didn t see out the first over when it was our turn to bat. Damien (21) and Brad (2) steadied the run chase until the ball was lost in the scrub and the sheets of rain ruined any chance of continuing the match. Second Grade v. Southern Adcock Park #1 Like all good Captains, Dylan elected to bat upon winning the toss. He didn t expect to lows and the highs of what was to happen on our hallowed turf. The low - 4 for 11. The high 6 for 164.
Michael (54*) notched up his maiden half-century in a much-needed patient display of cricket, which was a stark contrast to the axe-wielding Lewis (71) who appeared to attack everything like he was in Game of Thrones! Rain also interrupted this game and we all look forward to Day 2 and the defence. First Grade v. Southern Col Gooley Oval (Umina) The Spirit Captain has got to have some fair dinkum Pommie blood in him as he won the toss and sent our boys into bat. From the first over Captain Ben (31) made the bowlers pay for their decision and even more so when spin was brought on from the second over! He smacked a total of 6 boundaries in his knock before being bowled. Keegan (8) did his best to stick around but copped a ball that stayed low and he was sent back to the sheds. Jordan (73*) took time out from his media commitments to play today and was very patient early on. After Matt (8) had a rush of blood and skied an average delivery, Shaun (72*) strode to the crease with the total on 67. This is when the partnership of the season was forged. Another wicket did not fall this day and when the storms hit, your boys were sitting pretty at 3/205 with a handsome 138 run partnership. Sadly, Jordan nor the partnership can continue as he nominated for week 1 only and his week 2 pairing owes him a few for remaining not out. The rain stopped the game in the 64 th over so this Saturday will see us bat for a further 13 (to give Hilly a chance at a Ton) and then it s our turn with the ball. We look forward to closing out the commentary on our senior grades which all look to have exciting finishes with the Bluetongues in some commanding positions. Don t forget about the after-match function at Adcock Park #1 where I hear it s our Sixth Grade s turn to prepare the BBQ and you won t have to wait for this weekly update for results, as you ll hear it straight from each team.
