AROUND THE GROUNDS Round No.2 was one of our best rounds for a number of seasons and saw 11 wins / 1 loss for our juniors and 6 wins / 1 loss for our seniors. The juniors have jumped into first place of the SSJCA Club Championship with consistent cricket throughout the divisions with big wins from the 14A, 12D, 10A and 10E sides who all won by 50 runs or more, with the U8 Blue s the best of the teams posting 0 for 210 and winning by 109 runs. While the 16C, 12A, 12C and 10C had comfortable wins our 14B and 14C sides had two nail biting matches and had to fight hard for their wins with both games decided by a margin of 3 runs or less. Best of the performers were Hamish Jacka (14C) with 96 backing up from his Round No.1 century, Intermediate Player of the Round Joshua Sheehy (14A) 78 not out, Mackay Johnson (12D) 58 not out, Corey Moors (14A) 54 not out, Andrew Ritchie (16A) 50, Laythen Carlisle (14C) 4 for 25, Matthew Steer (12C) 3 for 13, Dakota Jattan (16C) 3 for 16 and James Touma (14A). The best all round effort came from our Junior Player of the Round Lachlan Ritchie (12A) 56 not out and 3 for 13. The U8 Blue & 10E Modified and 10C Split Innings teams really excelled in both the batting and the bowling with the following players shining for their respective teams Thomas Wheatley (U8) 35, Jayden Dundas (U8) 25, Oliver Te Hira (10E) 24, Lucas Cousemacker (U8) 20, Liam Gunnell (10C) 2 for 15 and Tyson Burke (10C) 2 for 10. This rounds best all rounder was Lucas Sheehy (U8) with 21 runs and 3 for 2. Congratulations to Bailey Croker and Elijah Dundas from our 10A team on their selection in the SSJCA U/10 Development Squad. In the senior ranks our players had another strong round with a number of sizable wins especially the C1 side that piled on 324 runs, B4 s 311 runs and B3 s 285 runs with the only close call coming from the B2-2 that fell across the line by 4 runs. Our Plus Fitness Engadine Senior Player of the Round was a tight finish, but went to Doug Ritchie (B4) for his 122. Other good performances came from Max Batty (C1) 89, Andrew Ritchie (B4) 76, Tim Berry (B3) 65, Joel Manns (B1-1) 5 for 15, Ben Williams (B1-1) 4 for 27 and Wade Horsnell (B2-2) 4 for 60. Best all rounders were Tim Russell (B1-2) 49 & 5 for 15 and Dean McMillan (B2-2) 54 & 4 for 35. The Management Committee would like to thank everyone who gave up their time last Sunday to help out at the Bunnings BBQ. The day was a great success and later on in the evening things got even better as the Mighty Sharks won their very first ever Premiership. 8 JUNIOR MATCH REPORTS ROUND NO.2 8 BLUE TEAM Great game boys! Another fantastic win with Engadine 0/210 defeating Illawong-Menai 6/101. I would like to welcome Lucas Cousemacker to the side who had an outstanding first game of cricket with a wicket and 32 runs. Some really promising signs from the whole team again this week. Special mention to Thomas Caleo who received Coaches player of the match for his effort and application of the bowling and batting techniques we have been working on at training, especially over the school holidays. Well done mate, keep it up. Some serious hitting from Thomas W, Ryan, Lucas S and Jayden again this week, a very entertaining partnership between Kobi and Lucas C with the best calling and running between the wickets from any pair so far. Noah, Lucas W Charles and Thomas C also played brilliant roles in their batting partnerships. Individual game stats below Batting: Pair 1 = Lucas S 26 runs from 21 balls, Lucas W 11 runs from 15 balls. Total 37 runs Pair 2 = Jayden 29 from 16, Thomas W 49 from 20. Total 78, Pair 3 = Thomas C 12 from 21 (1 wicket), Noah 7 from 15 (2 wickets). Total 19 Pair 4 = Charles 16 from 14, Ryan 24 from 22. Total 40 Pair 5 = Kobi 23 from 18, Lucas C 32 from 18. Total 55 Fielding: Lucas S 1 Catch Bowling: Noah 3 overs 0/16 Lucas W 3o 0/16 Kobi 2o 0/9 Charles 3o 0/24 Thomas C 3o 0/22 Thomas W 3o 1/9 (1 maiden) Jayden 3o 1/12 Lucas S 2o 3/2 (1 maiden) Lucas C 1o 1/2 Ryan 1o 0/0 (1 maiden) 10A TEAM What a great game this round. Playing across the October holidays is always difficult for both sides however I think we came out on top. The lads gave a strong sustained performance across both weeks to win the match. Outstanding performances included Koby (22no.) Bailey (19 n/o), Lachlan (16 n/o) and with the ball Elijah 3-10, Ben 2-8 and Lucas Fielding was also greatly improved with several catches being taken including a good gully catch from our super sub Jayden. Great all round performance from all the boys... Onto round three!

10C TEAM A courageous win against Bangor this round as the team was decimated by school holidays with many members sunning themselves at Fijian resorts rather than wielding the willow and leather in week one. In week two we rallied strongly to put the result beyond doubt defeating our opponent 125 to 109. Winning the toss and batting Connor ((21 runs) and Corey (19 runs) got us off to a fantastic start combining to reach or best batting pair. Both batsmen smashing some glorious boundaries. Jack and Jake continued the strong momentum chipping in with 22. Jake got bragging rights in this pair with 13 to Jack's 9 runs. Continuing the theme, our middle order of Tyson and Noah played superbly against some pace bowling to add 21 runs between them. Noah got 14 and Tyson 7. Maeve joined Liam at the crease to consolidate the good start adding 17 runs. Will P and Kyle were pretty evenly matched belting 10 and 7 respectively. Our "tailend" batsmen Tom and Will M didn't just do the traditional slog fest of lower order batsmen with both playing some glorious cricket shots to score 25 all up; 16 to Tom and 9 to Will. Pleasingly our batting card shows only 9 dismissals against some very good bowling. In the field and with the ball is where this team really shows strength. They bowl very few sundries and limit scoring with great fielding which consistently frustrate the opposition. Liam was our star performer this match limiting Bangor to only 15 runs from 4 overs while dismissing 2 of their good batters. Similarly Tyson carried the team with 4 overs and he too got a couple of wickets for 18 conceded. Noah had the crowd on their feet with his very first delivery yielding a wicket. His 2 over spell was impressive with 1 for 6. Jake was also called upon to shoulder a lot of the bowling and his 4 overs were tidy with figures of 1 for 24. Again with a wicket on his first ball. He also starred in the field throwing down the stumps for a sweet run out. Corey didn't want to be outshone so he also promptly grabbed a wicket on his first ball too. 2 overs, 1 for 11 is tidy. We missed Connor in week 2 but he didn't disappoint in week 1 with score book showing his 2 overs were beautifully bowled. 1 for 7 with no sundries conceded. Jack was also miserly with the ball with half of his deliveries being dot balls. His 2 overs only resulted in 7 conceded. There must be something in the water out Engadine way because Will M promptly snared a wicket with his first delivery. Remarkably the 4th bowler in our team to do so in this match. Plenty of dots here too. Final figure 1 for 5 off 2. Suffering muscle soreness from too many turns on the Fiji resort waterslide, Kyle lost some line and length in his first over for a few sundries but recovered well in the second over to finish with 14 conceded. Tom was terrific with the ball. his 2 overs very tight. 1/8. Maeve proved to be very difficult to score from with plenty of dots in the scorebook. 0/6 off her 2 overs. Will P finished off the bowling card with a solid spell of none for 9 off his 2 overs. For his efforts with bat, ball and in the field Tom was judged our best this match and gets his name on the trophy. 10E TEAM What a great win by the mighty 10E s. Bangor won the toss and sent us in to bat. The opening pair of Dylan and Riley got us off to a great start and batted the whole 6 overs without losing a wicket. A couple of heavy hitters in Mitch B and Oliver were in next and really got the run rate moving. Rory and Mitch D were batting at 5 and 6 and combined really well to consolidate a great batting day. After drinks the bowlers took over, Copper and Zach opened the attack and had the opposition reeling; Alex, Mitch D, Rory, Dylan and Oliver were then brought in and really limited the opposition scoring. Day two provided more of the same; Mitch B, Riley, Ethan, Brodie and Oscar bowled a really tight line and length and limited the runs the boys had to chase.

Ethan and Oscar were our first batting pair of the day, combining well and taking advantage of any loose balls bowled by the opposition. Brodie and Zach were next in, both combining well to score lots of runs and also not losing any wickets. Our last batting pair, Copper and Alex followed the previous pairs lead, batting well and frustrating the bowlers. It was a great team effort with all the boys contributing to the win with both bat and ball. Craig 12A TEAM Round 2 saw the team take on Caringbah sports at our home ground The Ridge. After losing the toss we were sent in to bowl. Highlights of the innings were Koby L s great run out from wicket keeper (glove and all), Beau, Kobey F s and Tyler s catches in the field plus Koby L and Bianca both with wicket keeper catches. Lachlan M, Lachlan R, Jackson and Charlie all bagged wickets. Late in the innings the runs piled on due to some poor fielding and lack of concentration from the dragons- finishing the day with a healthy target to beat of 168. Week 2 and the winds the ridge is famous for didn t disappoint, causing havoc for the Caringbah bowlers. Koby l and Beau didn t waste anytime getting the scoring started with some great shots around the ground. Lachlan R had a patient innings ready to punish any bad balls. Kobey F was at his entertaining best finding the boundary many times. Bianca was running well between the wickets when a top edge found the fielder. Riley looked liked he had a great time smashing the ball around the park scoring a lightening fast 23. After the 2 Lachlan s sealed victory they were retired and Riley, Jackson and Thomas saw out the overs with some entertaining shots. Finishing the day with 191 and 2 from 2 wins in 12A competition. Well done team. Keep up the good work at training and good luck in Round 3. 12C TEAM 12D TEAM 14A TEAM With Seagulls winning the toss and sending Engadine into bat, the boys needed to put the runs on the board with the following week we would be down in numbers on the field with the school holidays. Our top order got the runs going, but well done to Josh Sheehy 78 not out and Corey M 54 not out and after 50 overs Engadine were 2 / 170. With the gale force winds and winter conditions the following week, the boys bowled well to get the win even though we were down in numbers on the field. Well done boy s great win. Cheers Scott

14B TEAM After winnings the first round with a somewhat easy run chase we were quietly confident we could do the same if required this week. Captain of the round Jake won the toss and decided to bat first. Some good batting by Lachlan (30 runs), Tyler (14 runs) and Kye who remained not out at the halfway mark saw us with a respectable total of 60 odd runs with 4 wickets down. The bowlers all did well with Tyler taking 2 wickets with Ethan and Caleb taking 1 wicket each. A great piece of fielding by Lachlan produced a great run out which helped the boys keep Caringbah to a total of 137. Let the run chase begin. Some great partnerships were created around Kye (34 runs) who steered us closer and closer to the target. Caleb (10 runs) helped the total keep ticking down but It had the feeling it was going to come down to the wire. With 9 wickets down we needed 2 runs off 2 balls. All the pressure was on Ethan and Tyson, not that you would have known. As cool as you like Tyson hits the first ball for a single, levelling the scores. 1 run off 1 ball for the win, easy right? Well Ethan obviously thought so as he punched the ball over covers head and ran an easy two to complete and amazing run chase. It was great to see the boys help out the opposition who were missing four players in the field. Providing the opposition with two fielders knowing it was only going to make the run chase that much harder is what cricket it all about, the boys played in great spirit and it just makes the win that much better. With more training sessions (fielding) the boys are only going to improve further. Keep up the hard work. 14C TEAM Wow, what a comeback from the boy s! A tremendous win by three runs; making it two wins from as many matches for the mighty 14C s! Here s how this match was played out with a dramatic finish. Week 1, we bowled first and struggled to bowl the way we wanted to, and how we know we can. We bowled far too short and were punished for it with two of their batsmen putting on a solid partnership. Highlight for us was another amazing catch by Jake Hunter, who manages to reel in catches from the next post code, and all the while taking the catch one handed! Kyle and Jason also taking one wicket each with their tight spin bowling. As we went into bat, we lost a couple of early wickets before another promising partnership between Hamish and Laythen, which almost got us to stumps, until sadly Laythen (12) was out driving to a ball which wasn t quite there and was caught. Como s bowling was on the spot and didn t allow for easy runs which kept our score to a minimum. At stumps, we were trailing Como by 39 runs heading into Week 2. After the long weekend break, the boy s resumed batting on Week2, ready to set a defendable total for Como to chase. A fantastic 118 runs partnership by Hamish and Nathan, lasting almost the 25 overs, gave Como 82 runs to win. Nathan played a lovely supporting innings (33) and a half century is just around the corner for him; his power to hit the ball to all parts of the field will only get him closer to that half century. Hitting four boundaries in one over was a highlight and a sign of things to come.

Hamish once again dominated the bowling, only to be caught on the boundary for 96, as he unselfishly was dismissed in the last over trying to get as many runs for the team. Another fantastic innings from a batsman in form, well done mate. Defending 82 runs, we went out to bowl. The bowlers were encouraged to pitch the ball up so as not to drop short and give away easy runs. The first two deliveries of the innings went for four; not a good start. Laythen then struck with two wickets in the one over, and his next over, another two, and on a hat-trick. Suddenly, the match was turned on its head. Just missing out on the hat-trick, Laythen finished with four important wickets, during what was a great display of fast bowling. Thal came on and took a wicket after bowling a peach of a delivery, moving the ball into the wind, hitting the off stump. The boy s came off for dinks, the match poised with Como needing a further 22 runs and us, needing two wickets. Como s top scorer, when on 86, hit a sharp chance to Jay, which was dropped, but Jay had the presence of mind to throw the stumps down, running him out with still 16 runs to get. Thal then came in to bowl the last ball of his spell, the batsman spooning a catch to Laythen and the match was over. We won by three runs! Bowling honours went to Laythen with 8 overs 2 maidens 4/25, Thal, 5 overs 2/21, Jason 1/22 and Kyle 1/24. Hamish applied pressure with his 7 overs 0/15 and Nathan Trudgen 4 overs 0/14. Well done boys on a fine comeback victory. It just goes to prove that in this great game of cricket, the game is always in the balance and is never over until the last wicket is taken or the last run is scored. Also, it is a reminder that in the end, good consistent bowling, that is straight and full, will get you wickets in this grade of cricket. Bowl like this and each of you will take a heap of wickets throughout the season. Enjoy the win boy s this is what cricket is all about. Congratulations, 2 from 2! Steve Carlisle, Honorary Coach for Round 2 16A TEAM Considering the match was played over 3 weeks and we had only 10 players, we played a good game with great fielding & catching (Mitchell and Cam 2wkts, Andrew, Dane and Brad 1 each) Andrew scored 50 & Cameron 25 runs were the best batsmen on the day in our innings. Hopefully we can improve on this result as the season goes on. Brian Whitehouse (manager) 16C TEAM

SENIOR MATCH REPORTS ROUND NO.2 B1-1 TEAM After last game s disappointing start the boys seemed determined to make amends for that, we lost the toss and were sent in the field on a new Oyster Bay oval pitch. The opening bowlers were superb reducing the pies to 47 all out, special mention to Joel Manns 5/15. We then went about chasing their total, which looked easy on paper, but unfortunately our team has a habit of making these totals a lot harder than they should be. We passed the total for the loss of 3 wickets and then an unfortunate collapse for us to be 9/98 at stumps day 1. We got ourselves to 112 all out with top score Dane Brockman with 21 and went about dismissing them again to go for outright, but due to some bad luck and missed opportunities they managed to survive the day with us taking the final wicket with 20 minutes to spare. Top performances Joel Manns 5/15, Ben Williams 4/27 and 3/45 Dane Brockman 21. B1-2 TEAM B2-1 TEAM B2-2 TEAM Round 2 started off as expected- forfeiting the coin toss because we only had 3 at the ground. We took the field bowling first with 7 and ended up with 10. Good effort from wade Horsnell 4/60 and dean McMillan 4/35 with Clinton claiming the final 2 wickets. Keeping them to all out for 154. The chase started poorly with 2 full tosses removing our 2 openers but Dean and Michael batting well ending the day 4/70. Second week started really well but once we looked like getting close to the target we lose wickets in clumps. Dean top scored with 54 and piloted the innings. Special mention to Troy for slogging the ball over mid on when scores were tied after losing wickets lost when scores where level. B3 TEAM B4 TEAM
