SUMMER HILL CRICKET CLUB Results & News (Issue 9.2) 22 nd November 2016 U9s, U10s and Girls will start on October 15th and Milo In2Cricket will start on October 14th at Pratten Park at 5.15pm. We are currently forming those teams and you should hear from your coaches soon. Changes to game times for some U9s games Due to council works being carried out on some of the grounds we use, some of the U9s games will have to be scheduled for the middle of the day and the afternoon on Saturdays at Daryl Jackson Gardens. Daryl Jackson Gardens in Summer Hill is our home ground for U9s cricket and our Association has arranged to book the ground for the whole day to have enough ground space to fit all the games in the U9s age group in. Daryl Jackson is custom made for U9s cricket and the other grounds are not available from midday due to seniors games being played on them. The plan is for U9s games to be scheduled for 8am, 11am or 2pm. Coaches and Managers night To assist new and old coaches and managers get across all the aspects of their tasks, Summer Hill CC will be holding a coaches and managers information night on Tuesday 11th October in the Viva Room at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club from 6.30 to 9pm. Finger food will be supplied. Lucky door prizes will be Shane Watson signed mini bats and a Shane Watson signed ODI shirt. New improved shirts for the coaches and managers will also be handed out. Coach the coach training session Geoff Spotswood will be running another coach the coach course for SHCC this year on Sunday October 23 at Beaman Park #3 ground (corner of Flinders Rd and Vera Evenue, Earlwood) There is no cost to the participants for this course, SHCC will pay the cost. Geoff has run this course for us for a couple of years now and has many good ideas about how to run training sessions and many coaching skillss ideas to share with our coaches. Can the coaches who attend please bring their young cricketers along as well as Geoff likes to use the boys to help demonstrate training drills.

Thanks to the help of our major sponsor, Canterbury and Hurlstone Park RSL Club, we are able to offer the camp at $120 for the two days. Summer Hill Cricket Club is once again signed up with the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre to be a sponsor of the club and to be our supplier of equipment. In recognition of the great deals and help they give us, Seniors Vice President Khurram Mahmood recently presented Ben Levett, manager of our local Greg Chappell Cricket Centre in Alexandria, with a Certificate Of Appreciation from SHCC to GCCC. Please support the cricket store that is supporting our club. It's been brought to our attention that there are some kids, who due to other holiday commitments, are only able to attend one day or the other. To that end, we have created a registration option to select one day or the other at $60 per day for those who are only able to attend on one of the days. Date - 28th & 29th September Venue - Beaman Park, Earlwood (corner of Flinders Road and Vera Avenue) Times to 4.30 Bring your lunch, drink bottles, kit & sun screen Format - Skills development 9am pm, T20 game from You can register by going to the home page of our website and clicking on the "Register Now" link Junior Cricket Camp SHCC, in association with Geoff Spotswood Coaching, is again running a 2 day school holiday cricket camp for U9s, U10s, and U12s. This is a great opportunity to develop new skills and get to know other kids in your club and age group. Geoff and his team are professional coaches and can give a lift to skills for the start of the season in a way that us amateur parents who coach the teams can t. This takes you to the SHCC My Cricket registration site. Go to the Juniors section and use the grey slide bar to scroll down to the cricket camp section. Orange dot the section for both days or one of the single days, click register and follow the links.

Positions Vacant - SHCC Secretary A vacancy has arisen on our committee with the resignation of secretary Milan Serovich due to his boys not continuing to play cricket. Our loss is football's gain as Milan has now become President of his football club. Now that the coin has been tossed, let s check out the view from cow corner. We'd like to thank Milan for his generous use of his time on behalf of your kids as secretary, coach and age co-ordinator. He s done a great job over the past few years. We will miss him and wish him well on his next committee. And so we are in need of a new secretary - Milan has done the lion s share of the secretary s work helping get the season underway. If you are interested in helping out your club by trying your hand at being our secretary, please contactt President Rob Sanderson on Team contributions to the newsletter We welcome contributions so your club mates can find out about how your teams are doing. Reports between 200 to 400 words for one day games, a bit longer for two dayers. If the U9s or U10s report is being done by one of the players then 50 to 100 words is good. We have had some good reports written by our junior players over the years and are keen to keep it up as it s another good skill for them to learn. Send team or action photos as JPEGS and match reports to shccnewsletter@gmail.com 3 rd Division model their new baggies U14 Div 1 SHCC Blue v Penshurst After a false start to the season with first round opponents St Andrew forfeiting, Blue weree very rusty on a lovely day for cricket at Beaman #2. Captain Kshitij won the toss and elected to bat in a 25 over one day game. Keeping the ball on the ground was a problem for Blue with 7 caught dismissals going for shots to try to get runs in the short number of overs. Riley Swaffield (19), James Hoy (14) and Ben Crawford (13) were top scorers. Blue were all out for 85 in the 21 st over, seemingly caught between a T20 and 30 over mindset.

During the change of innings the team and coach Mal Hoy were presented with their baggy caps and a smart looking mob headed out to defend a small total. The opening bowlers, Ben Hayes and Carl Arthur started off well and had Penshurst 3/7 after the opening four overs, with an LBW and a bowled to Ben, two maidens to Carl and a direct hit run out from James. 6 th Division model their new baggies U12s SHCC Green v SHCC Red SHCC Green played SHCC Red on this hot, sunny day. It was a close game. Green won the toss and bowled first. Red scored a total of 92. Green's bowling was a little inaccurate and Red scored off all the bowlers. U14 Div 1 Blue Ben Hayes The next Penshurst pair settled themselves and started putting on the runs aided by a bit of rusty bowling where they latched onto anything short and picked up too many no balls, reaching the target in the 19 th over. The start of Green's innings was not ideal because they took too many risks. However Jacob was more patient and scored 30 runs to bring the game to a cliff hanger finish. The end was controversial. A close call on a boundary did not go Green's way leaving them one run short having scored 91 in total. But well done to Red who played very well in the first game of the season.

U12s Div 2 SHCC Black v SHCC White By Eryk Francis (White captain) White won the toss and sent Black in to bat. Summer Hill Black started batting, and they lost 5 out for 67 runs. Then they ran out of overs. During this time, Zayn Hakim got two wickets bowled in a row, which was our best moment of the match. When our team started batting, we lost a few early batters, but then, our later batters got us a lot of runs. Finn Williams had the best performance because he stayed in for a long time and got lots of runs. The game came to an end with Summer Hill White 'all out' for 45 runs, and Summer Hill Black on 6 out scored 67 runs, which made Summer Hill Black the winner of its first match. Congratulations to everyone! U12 Div 2 SHCC Black v SHCC Red By Black captain Guy Davies This week s match was very close and we lost by only a few runs. Benji got the Coach s Award for excellent batting and Jamell, Evander and Aiden did excellent bowling. Daniel was keeper and did very well. Overall, I think it was great cricket and I enjoyed my second game of the season. SH Red 5/78 def SH Black 8/66 U14 Div 2 SHCC Green v SHCC Gold Day 1 Sunny skies and a cool breeze greeted Gold and Green for the opening two day derby of the new season. For the Green team it was a mix of returning players from U14 and U12 last season plus an injection of new players from other clubs as well as some new to competitive cricket. Finn, captain for Green, lost the toss and Gold batted first on the wafer thin pitch at Beaman #3. The opening Green attack of Tuv and Finn were a little rusty but quickly settled into a probing line and length. Tuv in particular bowled an unplayable peach or two but Gold opening batters Charlie and Angus held him out and were aided by some nerves in the field which saw a few chances grassed. Bowling first change Nick broke the opening partnership at 34 when Angus was bowled. Rohan quickly followed up when Paul took a great catch at mid off from a skied ball. Gold 2/52 at drinks off 16 overs. Zain and Paul both picked up wickets in the second session as did Ashhad with a pair, including another great catch from Paul. 6/115 from 28 overs at the long break.

The third session belonged to Tuv with three wickets from some unplayable bowling with Nick taking a great catch at silly mid on. Gold was all out for 143 in the 39 th over. Tuv 3/9 from 7 overs, Ashhad 2/4 from 3 overs and Nick 2/22 from 5 overs. Mixed in with some dropped catches were some classics from Paul and Nick. Charlie top scored for Gold with a punishing 29, Carlo and Angus both 17. and solid catching in the field. Soon Gold were 6/22 in the 10 th over and it was Green scheming for the outright. Ares saved the day for Gold with a fine captain s knock of 40. Gold all out for 87 in 30 overs as the clock struck for an early end to the day. Green started their innings well with Finn and Haydon, the later in his first competitive innings. The openers put on 23 in 5 overs before Finn played on. Haydon played very nicely for 13 before Angus M struck some crucial blows for Gold, disturbing the stumps 4 times in the space of 2 overs including 3 in one over. Nick and Paul held on til stumps with Green precariously placed at 5/61 after 14 overs. Day 2 Another peach of a day at Beaman. Green held high hopes for first innings points and started well before the wickets started to tumble with some tight bowling and good catching from Gold. Green all out for 96 in 24 overs within the first hour of play. Nick did his best to hold the middle order together with an impressive 21 not out. Angus 4/10 and Ares 3/14 took the honours for Gold. With three hours remaining Gold were scheming for the outright but things did not quite go to plan. Tuv was on fire with his opening spell for Green hitting the pegs three times, with great back up bowling from Paul The agony & the ecstasy of the U14 Gold v Green derby Tuv 4/17 from 7 overs (and match figures of 7/26) was unplayable and Paul 4/12 from 4 overs was a great foil. All in all a great first game of the season with the younger players doing particularly well. And the parents are great too! Look forward to the season ahead.
