Congratulations also go to our B3 side that finished second thanks to a last round outright win over Magpies. The Berry boys stared with Matt 92 and Tim 76 doing the job with the bat and then backed it up with the ball with Matt 5 for 28 & 2 for 45 and Tim 1 for 22 & 4 for 27. They will play Illawong-Menai Saturday February 24 and Sunday February 25 at Anzac 2. In the juniors with only one round to play our Minor Premier 16C & 10A teams and second placed 12A side have booked their places in the Final. Our 14D team will also qualify for their Final in at least second position, but if the results in the last round go their way they could finish as Minor Premiers. Our 10F team needs a win to progress to the Final. PLUS FITNESS ENGADINE E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 3

E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 9 MATCH REPORTS 10A Team Round 9 for the 10A s was at Lilli Pilli against Cronulla Seagulls. Cronulla won the toss and sent us in to bat. Connor was our Captain this round. We opened with Connor and Jayden, who made 5 and 6 respectively. Ryan was really unlucky to be run-out with a great throw from the field, but Lachlan (16), Tyson (12) and Lucas (8) steadied the ship to take us to 4 for 57. It was now our turn to bowl, and yet again everyone bowled really well. Lots of maidens, and of the 6 wickets we took, 4 were catches and 1 run-out, showing the fielding was just as good as the bowling. Star of the show was Captain Conner, with a 3-3 from 2 overs. The other 3 wickets went to Lachlan (run-out), Ryan & Noah. Cronulla 6-32 after Day 1. Returning week 2, we bowled Cronulla out for 55 inside 10 overs to have won the game before we had to bat. Everyone bowled really well, although the boys were a bit flat in the field giving away a few sundries and overthrows. Wickets went Jayden, Tom, Lachie and Kade. Batting, with no pressure, we got to 8 for 102 with all the boys doing well. Stand outs being Mason 14 not out, and Fred and Kade 7 not out each. Noah did well (4) and Tom was unlucky getting bowled out early in his innings. We then played a 2 nd innings for the remaining 10 overs of the game and Cronulla batted again, and another run-out to Tyson and a wicket to Lucas had the game end with Cronulla 2-14 in their seconding innings. Fred scored Man of The Match for his great batting and bowling and listening to everything John said. Well done! 10B Team In the penultimate round of the season we travelled down to Grays Point and took on Gymea Bay. Despite a stirring week 2 comeback we were eated 9/121 to 10/69. Kyle was captain this match and won the toss and elected to bowl on an overcast first morning. Zach combined all of his many bowling skills to bamboozle their top order and proved very difficult to play. His 5 overs very miserly recording 1/4. The wicket was a stunning caught and bowled effort that earned our play of the day in week 2. Brother Mitch also sent down 5 overs with very few sundries to finish with 0/21. Off a short run, Bradford got through his 5 overs of stinging pace and smashed the stumps of the Gymea top scoring batsman. His 1/19 was a great effort. Kyle's first few overs were nice and straight and low scoring. His 5 over spell eventually finished at 0/13. Cooper is one of our most reliable bowlers; very few sundries and very few opposition runs. He lived up to this reputation with 1 for 6 off his 4 overs. Whilst behind the stumps at 'keeper he also took a classy catch. Pleasingly Tom's bowling has improved over the last few matches. He's reduced the sundries and kept the E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 9
E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 10 scoring down. Ethan took a sharp catch at wickie for his one dismissal. In the field he was everywhere and took 2 ripping catches. Mitch Duric was tasked with 5 overs this match, and didn't he deliver. We needed the 2 wickets that he took to reduce their scoring. 2/26 are great figures. Ollie returned in week 2 and his direct hit run out effort was awesome and had the crowd cheering. They were up again with a nice caught and bowled effort. Nice figures of 1/7 off 2 overs. Within Ethan's 2 overs we saw 9 dots and a wicket. Wow. Great effort there. Lucas absolutely starved the batsmen of scoring opportunities and he delivered an astonishing 11 dot balls in his 2 overs. He dried up the Gymea scoring at a time when we needed it most. In the field he was a livewire and chased down a few balls that were destined for the boundary with his blistering pace. We weren't at our best at the crease this match. Gymea's bowling was classy but at times we lacked concentration and there were several low scores. Bradford ied this trend and played beautifully through week 1 at position 3 and carried his bat all through the overs into week 2 where he totalled 16 runs as our high scorer and deservedly earned play of the day for a nice boundary. Tom and Kyle opened up the innings and Tom showed some nice resilience before being closely run out for 7. Kyle got a pearler of a delivery that took his off stump for 2. Cooper was in at 2nd drop but he too played around a nice ball and saw his stumps pushed back with 1 on the board. We called upon Mitch Duric to bat twice this match and he showed great lower order patience in week 2 to assist with the team's score. Total score 1. Zach carried his bat into the second week after smashing a glorious pull shot for 4. He was eventually dismissed for 8. We missed Ollie's power batting in week 1 but were treated to an unbeaten display in week 2 that included a thundering lofted drive for 4. He would have scored more than 8 had his partners stuck around. Lucas was very unlucky not to record a good score when he was deceived but a nice delivery that clipped his off stump. Gymea Bay are one of the 10B comp front runners and deserved their victory. It was pleasing to see a Dragons fight back in week 2 spearheaded by Lucas' bowling that slowed down their run rate. For this effort and some nice stops in the field he will be dragging E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 10
E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 11 10F Team The mighty 10F s took on Gymea Bay who during the last round didn t put up much of a fight. The second meeting between both teams provided the same outcome with the mighty 10F s improving every match with outstanding fielding and bowling. Our focus for the last 3 games were reducing our extras which has limited the runs of the opposition and more accurate bowling has seen the 10F bowlers knock down more timber than a Tasmanian logging industry. The first week saw the Smithy s apply pressure from the get go and Gymea Bay were strangled which forced some silly shots. The fielding was sharp with saw 2 run outs, a great caught behind. Week 2 saw much of the same. Some sharp bowling with genuine pace saw Reagan Heffernan collect 3/6 and Jake Simpson 3/11. Jake is out secret weapon with his art of leg spinning improving each week. In batting Cooper Holmes dispatched their bowlers all of the shop with 2 sixers and 6 fours to finish with 37 of 22 deliveries. Tom Faulkner bashed the bowlers during week 1 with 1 six and 3 fours and ran really well between the wickets and finished with 29 runs. I have to mention some players who have improved significantly. Benji Macdonough has bowled really well over the last month and Jake Simpson who is becoming a true all-rounder in which he keeps, bowls and is as solid as brick wall with his batting. Well done fellas. The players are looking forward to the next game with the big picture of the Final not too far away. Craig Holmes E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 11
E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 12 12A Team Up against Gymea saw Dragon s bowl first in wet conditions, which the bowlers and fielders handled well. Our player of the round Tom had a great match bowling his leggies taking 1 for 8 off 8 overs. Tom showed great control considering the seam was like soap. Alex again led the bowling attack with 2 for 14 and was backed up by Lachlan R 2 for 7 with Elijah and Lachlan M taking a wicket apiece. Excellent keeping by Koby with a catch, a stumping and an assisted run out was well supported in the field with a catch going to Elijah and a catch and an assisted run out to Alex. Gymea all out for 86. Week two saw similar conditions to the first and was wet under feet with a soft and spongy outfield that wasn t kind to shot making. The team got off to a shaky start, but Zane and Kobey settled the ship and hauled in the target before Zane retired on 21 and Kobey not quite middling the ball found square leg for a great knock of 46. The boys batted their 50 overs finishing on 7 for B Team In Round 9 the team played St Patrick s at Coachwood Crescent Alfords Point. This round the team were captained by Bailey with Kyle as Vice Captain. This was our second time playing St Patrick s this season and once again they were too strong winning the round (4-192) after declaring at the 35th over against the Dragons (10-112). A strong partnership was formed by our opening batsmen/women Aidan W and Maeve holding strong right though to the 14th over. Highest runs were scored by Maeve (20) followed by Aidan W (9), Koby (9), Jacob (8), Bailey (7), Hayden (5), Patrick (5), Angus (4), Aiden S (2), Kyle (1), Lucas (0) and Ballin sitting out as 12th Man this round. The St Patricks team proved their strength in bowling/fielding with 5 of our batsmen caught out and another 4 bowled. Great fielding this round with 3 of the St Patrick s players caught out by Angus, Ballin and Hayden with the final player run out by Lucas. This round was our best this season for Sundries with only 33 recorded. Wicket keeping this round was shared by Jacob, Maeve and Angus. Player of the match was Maeve. 13 E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 13 14A Team The boys were keen to make amends for a disappointing loss last week, however, we were still down a few players due to the annual oz tag carnival. The Dragons won the toss and elected to bat first. Unfortunately, Jake was out caught behind in the first over the score 1/3. Luke and Caleb batted for 7 overs before Luke was out for 8 runs in the 8th over. Unfortunately the wickets continued to fall and runs were hard to come by- the Dragons bowled out in the 29th over with the score 8/51. Kyan topped the scorers with a hard fought 19 runs. Despite good fielding and good bowling Caringbah gained 1st innings points chasing down the small total in 15 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. Week 2 began with the Dragons being sent back in by Caringbah at the start of play seeking extra points for an outright win! The motivation and teamwork displayed by the Dragons was tremendous with Luke scoring a courageous 49 runs. The whole team worked hard to fend off a frustrated Caringbah batting out the overs. The Dragons finished the days play 8/106 off 48 overs. Well done boys! E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 13
