9 E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 9 MATCH REPORTS 10B Team Round No.3 The mighty 10Bs had an excellent victory in round 3, defeating Caringbah The key message going into the game this week was value my wicket. The boys really did value their wickets in the game, giving away only 3 wickets for the match. Five of the seven batsmen were not out. While Caringbah scored more runs, we still got the win because of the low number of wickets and very few sundries. The boys are doing a great job and are learning quickly and positive signs for the season so far. Well done 10Bs. 12B Team Round No.3 The 12B dream team travelled down to scenic Scylla Bay, Como for round 3. In a topsy turvey cliff hanger we were narrowly defeated by a red hot Cronulla Seagulls squad. 7/94 to 8/80 (all out) Captain Corey continued our run of outs at the coin toss and we were tasked with bowling first. Jake Rae grabbed the 6 stitcher from the skipper and got us off to a great start with a maiden. He backed this frugal bowling up across his 4 overs conceding only 2 runs and no sundries but the highlight was a searing inswinging yorker that disrupted the stumps to dismiss their opener. Lucas took time out from keeping early this match and sent down 2 near perfect medium pace overs which show 2 maidens. Behind the stumps he was safe as a bank as usual. Bradford fired up his slinging action and was rapid in his delivery. He shouldered 4 overs for 17 runs. Kyle got out of the blocks smartly and was unplayable in his first 2 overs, both of which were maidens. In his 4th and final over the entire squad went up as one to appeal for a plumb LBW. Final result 1/6 off 4. E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 9

10 E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 10 The highlight of Mason's spell was a scintillating catch off his own bowling. 4 balls later he got one to nip back off the seam to lift the off bail and dismiss one of their dangerous lower order sloggers. We threw the 'keepers gloves to Ryan this week and he rewarded the team with some very safe hands that prevented plenty of Seagulls runs. With the ball, Ryno is Mr Reliable. Very few conceded and he invariably takes a wicket. In this match he continued with the theme of the team and hit the stumps with a beautiful delivery in his 3rd and final over. 1/12 end result. I doubt that any other bowlers in the history of 12B cricket have recorded as many dot balls as Connor. This week he was at his usual accurate best always getting through at top of off stump. He took 2 wickets; one an absolute screamer of a catch taken by Corey and the other a bowled. 2 for 4 off 3 overs. Ethan bowled nice and straight this week. He was very unlucky not to take a wicket but contributed to the team with some outstanding fielding and encouragement of his team mates. None for ten off 3 overs. Big Jake Wallace was very tight and there are no sundries in the score book. His express pace enabled the Seagulls to score a few lucky runs. 0/14 off 3 overs. Chasing a relatively mild score of 94, we were pretty confident to mow their score down quickly. Alas, this wasn't to be and the Seagulls are due credit for dismissing our star studded batting card. Ollie and Jake Rae got the dig underway. Both batsmen took a few overs to get their eye in. Ollie prefers to deal in boundaries and he thundered a couple of cracking shots on his way to 14 across 2 spells at the crease. He remained our not out batsman all the way from opener. Jake was technically correct with his forward defence and then got going to accumulate a few nice shots including one sensational boundary shot on his way to final score of 10. Mason was terribly unlucky to scoop a nice delivery in the air to be caught for nought. Connor came in at 2nd drop and was busy at the crease grabbing plenty of singles, a couple of 2's and several 4's to cap off our team high score of 19 runs before being run out spectacularly by the alert Cronulla bowler. Ryan toiled away in the middle order but wasn't able to get their pace attack away as usual but his 5 runs were crucial as we inched closer to the Seagulls score. With the pressure mounting and wickets falling we needed a cool head to occupy the crease. Lucas stabilized things as we started to fall behind the run rate and his 3 runs were very important. 11 E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 11 Bradford is not a man to nick and nudge. He is a power batsman who enjoys the lusty swing. His quick fire 5 ensured we got within striking distance of victory. Corey was dreadfully unlucky to pop one up first ball to their star fielder and be dismissed without scoring. With a few nervous overs left and only 20 odd runs to get; Kyle joined Ollie out in the middle to try to get us home for a heroic win. Unfortunately he couldn't quite hang on and smashed one straight back to the bowler who took a great catch. For a fine batting performance that almost stole victory from the jaws of defeat; Ollie collected the trophy and will get to keep it throughout the holidays. Boys you were very unlucky loss this round. Cronulla Seagulls are an impressive cricket team and we gave them a serious run for their money. We will no doubt defeat them in the next encounter. Our next match is against St Pats back at Kingswood on October 13th. Enjoy the extended break. 14A Team Round No.2 Our first one dayer of the season we set off for Heathcote Oval to take on Como Jannali. After losing the toss we were sent into bat. Koby L and Mackay opened solidly defending the bowling Como attack. The bowling was excellent with very few balls off target and making the Dragons work for every run- only 1 bye in the 25 overs the only sundry! Best batting of the day, Koby L (19), Lachlan R (15) and Kobey F with a top score of 40 no. At the end of the innings, Como had to beat 82 runs for victory. Taking the field the Dragons needed to bowl and field well to match the Como s great effort in the field. Unfortunately it was not to be as some poor bowling as well as terrible fielding in patches let Como score runs with ease. Riley E took the only wicket for the innings. Como ended up winning easily with 5 overs to spare. Hopefully the holiday break will get the team fired up for Round 3. E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 11

12 E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 12 14C Team Round No.2 Round 2 for the boys was at Anzac Oval for a T-20 against Miranda. Beautiful sunny day, with a full gallery of spectators. Miranda won the toss and sent us in to bat. Angus and Elijah opened and started cautiously (0-11 after 5)... before the reality of the situation dawned on them... with a cracking 4 to Angus to get the first boundary, swiftly followed by Elijah getting into the action. 5 overs later, we were 2-48 after 5: Angus 7, Zane 7, Elijah retired not out 27* after a devastating 5 over boundary spree. Kyle and Jacob took over the reins, with Jacob unfortunately falling early to a peach. Captain Kyle hit a brutal 14 to keep the score surging, and Seth and Matt threw caution to the wind with a quick fire 9 each. Noah (12*) played a very strong rear guard action with Pat (3*) and we finished We had no idea if that was enough in this new format, so rather than ponder the issue, the boys decided it s best to intimidate with lots of early wickets! Josh opened with 2 wickets in his first two overs, and his opening bowling partner Pat, took a wicket in his 3 rd over. Miranda 3-16 off 6. Time for a bowling change, and Coach Chris threw the ball to our perennial wicket in the first over pair of Jacob and Matt and they didn t disappoint 5-29 off 8!! From there, things went quiet. Really tight bowling by all the boys and Miranda couldn t get going. With 5 overs to go, 5-63! Looking good! A consolation wicket to Pat and some big hitting in the final few overs by one of the Miranda boys and they finished Great team win, contributions all over the ground, including in the field. Josh walked away with Man of the Match with his awesome opening bowling spell. E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 12

13 E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 13 16B Team Round No.2 The Dragons were confident going into our second game due to the strong round 1 performance. The task wasn t going to be easy under the one day format. St. Pats batters took the challenge up to the inform Dragons bowling attack scoring a quick fire 102 runs off 12 overs before the loss of the first wicket. The strong batting continued for the remaining overs, St. Pats reaching 3/ 147 after 25 overs. St. Pat s openers scoring 92 & 25 runs, strong fielding by Tyson and Joey, Gabby bowled well and Jake tidy behind the stumps. The chase began steadily with the Dragons losing their 1st wicket at 21 runs in the 4th over. Accurate bowling saw the next 2 wickets fall adding only 1 run to the total. The Dragons settled the ship with Lachlan and Tyson -a partnership of 41 trying to keep the scoreboard ticking over. At the end of the 19th over, the score 5/73 with Lachlan losing his wicket on 22 runs. After that Dragons didn t give up hope and battled their way to 7/ 100. Lachlan and Tyson were our best batting performances, however, it was a good team effort. Up the dragons! E N G A D I N E D R A G O N C R I C K E T C L U B Page 13
