2 The President s Bat Welcome to our second Hawk Talk for the 2017 / We have had some wet weather causing dramas during the week with training and of course we had that big wet a couple of Saturdays ago. In the end, no matches went ahead that day. Please take note of the special storm notice that Eddie has put into this edition of the Hawk Talk. This is particularly important for coaches training during the late afternoons when most storm activity occurs. We have eleven of our players recently selected in Brisbane North Representative sides. These boys will travel to various parts of Queensland and NSW over the Xmas period. This hard cricket will improve their skills. I wish them well and know that they will be great ambassadors for their families and Albany Creek Cricket Club. Congratulations also go to Caitlin Mair who has been selected in the Queensland U15 girls team. She will compete in the National Championships over the summer break. Caitlin is now playing senior cricket at Sandgate Redcliffe. Thank you for your cooperation in getting the players to their club photo night recently. All of the photos will be ready for distribution before our last weekend of cricket which is the 1 st / 2 nd December. The Quin family have been operating our canteen on Friday nights and things are really humming along there with the number of sausages being sold increasing every week. Thanks to our U8/U9 families for their patronage of the canteen as this helps us to offset the cost of lights being used. Everyone is aware of the rising cost of electricity and those lights do chew it up. Steve Casey

Our run accumulation began brilliantly with Will Quigley(18) hitting his first two balls to the boundary. Tom Deem (14) followed suit and smashed his first straight down the ground for a boundary as well. The Grey Hawks bowlers adjusted and the scoring slowed after that due to some excellent bowling. The middle order added more runs with Fionn (10), Sam (10) and Bailey (18) all getting bat on ball and some smart running. Our total before wicket run deduction was a very healthy 84. To say the Grey Hawks came out swinging would be an understatement. With a combined team total of 153 the Red Hawks got a close up view of some power hitting. The bowlers all toiled hard with Tom Dixon, Will Quigley and Fionn Laverty all holding their own throughout the onslaught. The boys never gave up and were in high spirits after the game. Will Quigley was awarded the Player of the Match award for his excellent contribution with both bat and ball. We all look forward to next Friday night. Chris

A great all round performance from Preston Lovell. The highlight was watching the kids enjoying fielding and improving week to week. Man of the match went to Milla for continued improvement of her bowling and 100% effort every game. UNDER 9 GREY HAWKS Mark & Andrea Bailey 27/10/ st Inn Albany Creek White Hawks Batting: Jett Tebbit 39 William McTaggart 15 Samuel Smith 14 Bowling: Lockyer Ward 4/5 Yianni Flaskos 1/10 Craig Davies 1/11 Fielding: Huge game boys! 2 catches, 3 runouts showed what a splendid effort. Special mention to Lockyer for a caught and bowled and also for great bowling figures! Well done Lockyer. A special thank you to the boys who assisted in the field for the White team! GAME REPORT: Another beaut. On an evening where the game was stopped for a mozzie spray, the boys entertained on the field, and the parents swatted mozzies on the side. The boys managed to take 10 wickets, with Lockyer leading the charge with an impressive 4/5, and being supported by the team. Our boys gladly took a welcome break and then marched to the crease to chase down a very competitive total. The boys took to the chase with a swing of the willow, reminding me of Ben Stokes (may he watch the Ashes from afar) in his prime. Some good fielding and bowling from the White team made the game that more competitive. Following the good start from openers, the middle order came in and helped stabilize the score board before Jett struck some marvelous shots to the boundary on his way to a marvelous 39. In all a good all round team effort. See you all next week! Dave Davies / Darren Tebbit

GAME REPORT: After a week off as a result of a wash out the White Hawks came out a little rusty but didn t take them long to find their groove. Mitchell Ring blasted a tremendous 39 runs from 16 balls, containing of six 4 s and one 6. That batting display bagged him the honors of Man Of The Match. Fantastic bowling from all of the team with special recognition to Nicholas Lawrence, with figures of 2/9 off 2 overs. Well done boys and great effort. John Ring / Darren Coleman

With Louis and Jett starting, Louis scoring 41 of 15 and Jett on 29 as openers a good foundation was set. Jarrod scored another 29 runs in support. All batters score double figures scoring over 200 runs. We bowled good with Eshaan with 3 runs off 2 overs and 2 wickets and a catch the competition did not get near our total. Louis also got 3 wickets from 3 overs and only gave 7 runs to the opposition. All round good play from everybody Leon Marais UNDER 10 GREY HAWKS 28/10/ st Inn 162 St Pauls School 61 Batting: Jed McDonald-Holland 26 Andy Klein 24 Jim Grecian 24 Bowling: Jett Snow 3/3 Jed McDonald-H 1/4 Luke Dunlop 1/4 Fielding: Catches by Jim, Jake, Jett & Ari. R/outs by Luke & 2 by Jake! GAME REPORT: A comfortable victory against a younger side. There were a lot of wides and dead balls which slowed the momentum of several batsmen. However our power hitters still produced some fine knocks. Bowlers and fielders were exceptional. All bowlers were economical especially our 3 top bowlers for the morning. Some great efforts in the field on an uneven track. Well done Jake for a catch and 2 runouts. Jett (23 runs, 1 catch and 3 wickets) only just shaded Jed (top scorer and great keeping effort) for Man of the match honours. Captain was Jim. Man of the Match Jett Snow. Bevan Dunlop

There was many outstanding efforts including more than 75% of the team coming off the field at the end of the game with some form of injury (Real Commitment). Special mention goes to Varish for his fielding as it often saved the team many runs and placed the opposition batsman under pressure when running between the wickets. Tyler also gets a special mention for taking a great catch on the boundary rope putting his whole body on the line to hold the catch. GAME REPORT: Another great team effort with all players giving everything they had. Excellent efforts by Hunter, Jude & Tyler with both bat and ball. Their awesome contributions recorded above in the summary of player performances. Varish (Player of the match) gets a special mention as the only player in our team not to be dismissed showing excellent technique when defending some excellent bowling from the opposition. We set a decent total on a slow out field, with the fielding of the team extremely good, chasing down every ball and not conceding a single boundary. Nell Schoeman was wicket keeper in the first session taking two catches and then followed it up with another one catch in the first slip position. Cooper Ruthenberg took two catches one from his own bowling and the last catch at mid wicket GAME REPORT: Batting first on a slow field the team scored 139 runs, we thought we could defend and they did, chasing down every ball. Good scoring by Sam, Jani, Steve and Cooper who retired after 15 balls returning to continue batting. Sam scored a good 25, supported by Steve and Jani. The team bowled really well with 4 opposition players bowled and 3 caught behind the wicket. GAME REPORT: First time on a synthetic pitch with a leather ball and the boys enjoyed the experience. It took a bit of adjusting with the skid and the bounce but played well again with Jett following on from last week with an unbeaten 29 supported by Riley (20no) and Angus (16no). Mark Durkin

GAME REPORT: After being washed out the previous week the match turned into a one day game and after winning the toss the Hawks sent the opposition into bat. The Hawks started well with two early wickets to Thomas Steel but a determined Pine Rivers side batted well setting a respectable total of 2/108 after their 26 overs. It was then the Hawks turn to bat and after some good performances in the first game Thomas Steel and Andie Corrie continued their form both retiring not out. With the match in the balance it was the new recruit Zak Rinaldi who turned the match with a quick fire 27 and with the overs cut short due to time the Hawks managed to sneak past Pine Rivers score in the last over of the game. GAME REPORT: This was a one-day game due to the rain cancellation the previous Saturday. AC Eagle Hawks won the toss and elected to bat. Opening batsmen Adam and Daniel set the team up to a good start despite St Patricks limiting the run rate with their tight bowling and fielding, with the rest of the batting order performing consistently to bring the total to 95 runs despite losing 9 wickets in the process. With good bowling by Dhruv (0/1 1 mads), Daniel (0/1 1 mads) and Tom (1/2-2 mads) the boys managed to keep St Patricks run rate down, with wickets not falling easily. It was a nail-biting final 2 overs which went down to the last ball as the Eagle Hawks fought to keep St Patricks from taking the match, resulting in a draw. The Red Hawks put together their best batting display of the season. An outstanding innings of 28 by Will Quigley was wonderfully supported by Fionn Lavery (17). Our bowling has been on the improve and this was certainly the case for Tom Dixon. He bagged the best figures for the day with 1/9 of his two overs. This was well backed up by Charlie Cook 1/18 and very tight bowling by Fionn (0/8). An alround great team performance with some outstanding fielding. 9 runouts in total by the whole team saw them get home in a close one. Well done Red Hawks on a great game. An amazing batting performance by all of the whites hawks on the night with many players breaking their personal best. Starting with Kyan Lloyd with a Man Of The Match total of 37. Then followed closely by Nick and Mitchell with 33 and 31 respectively. Even Noah Coleman almost doubled his average with a great knock of 19 runs. GAME REPORT: After two weeks off, the boys were excited to be back on the field. Some players had their best match of the year amidst good contributions from all players. The boys remain focused on their fielding, however batting was a real highlight this week. Danny Costello led the way with 41 runs, well supported by Jake Brind with 36 runs, Dan Marsh with 30 (and Man of the Match honours), and both Harry Cook and Matthew Gibson with 26. Bowling was kept tight resulting in two wickets, including a catch to Sean Lavery, and backed up by three good runouts. There were two wicket takers with Matthew Gibson the best at 1/8 and Dan Marsh with 1/23 (off 3 overs), backed up well be Jake Brind with 0/8 and Sean Lavery with 0/12. GAME REPORT: As the sun set and the full moon rose from the East it was a cooler night without a mozzie in sight. We were down a few players tonight and we would like to thank Bayliss from the Black Hawks for joining our team to even the numbers up. 6 v 6 meant it was a batter s paradise with plenty of gaps to be found. Some of the kids didn t need the gaps hitting their first 6 s for the season. Our coach Dave was even on a Hat Trick when he caught 2 in a row that flew over the parents heads at deep long on. Batting first we set a good target that took the pressure off our bowlers. Lucky enough because the Black Hawks put up a great fight and made it very difficult to take wickets. A great night enjoyed by all, especially since we did get the chocolates and we even got lollies as well. Dave Davies / Darren Tebbit

34 Page 34 UNDER 9 WHITE HAWKS 03/11/ st Inn Albany Creek Red Hawks Batting: Ethan Dahl 16 Charlie Ellison 12 Bowling: Ethan Dahl 1/9 Hudson Morley 1/15 Charlie Ellison 1/17 GAME REPORT: It was a tougher night at the office this week for the Red Hawks who came up against a red-hot White Hawks outfit who had years of experience between them. But despite the strength of the opposition, the Red Hawks lifted again to continue to improve in all areas of the game. Batting first openers Oliver Dahl (7) and Sebastian Betts (9) got us off to a good start with some loud, positive calling and running between the wickets, before Ethan Dahl came out to top score with 16, including what must surely be the Under 9 competition s first ever reverse sweep! Skipper Charlie Ellison then found the boundary a couple of times for a quick fire 12, and then Ansh Gidh once again got himself amongst the runs, as one of three players to score 9, along with Max Douglas, who was this week s biggest improver with bat in hand blazing away with some magnificent crunching blows down the ground, and more positive calling. Hudson Morley then continued his fine improvement with the ball, smashing the stumps out of the ground with a beautiful yorker for his first wicket of the season. Last week s man-of-the match, Ethan again was superb with ball in hand to take 1 for 9, and Max was again very economical, conceding just 11 runs from his two overs. But this week it was the fielding that really saw the Red Hawks come alive, with three outstanding direct hit run outs. Ethan topped off another great personal performance by throwing the stumps down from side on, following on from brother Oliver who did the same just a few overs before. Both were superb pieces of athleticism which would normally have earned themselves play of the day, but amazingly, both were pipped for this week s best play by Matteo Betts, who rifled a searing return from near the backward point boundary clattering into the bowlers end stumps on the full to the shock of the ambling White Hawks batsman caught a metre short of the crease! To top off an incredible fielding display, Charlie backed up his 12 runs and bowling figures of 1 for 17 with a series of superb boundary-saving stops to earn himself this week s player of the match. The only criticism coming from the Red Hawk fans this week is from their lack of celebration of wickets and boundaries!! It almost looks like a throw-back to the golden age of the 1920 s and 30 s when the gentlemen of the game didn t seem to care that they had gotten a wicket! While we all applaud these young men for their modesty, we need to see at least a few high-fives, well done s and pats on the back when a team mate takes a wicket, hits a boundary, takes a catch, makes a run-out, or just bowls a good ball. Maybe some more on-field celebration could replace the off-field pre, mid, and post-match wrestling! Otherwise a tremendous performance and looking forward to next week! GAME REPORT: On a hot Saturday morning and grass cuttings all over the field we were sent in to bat first. Our batters had some difficulty to get the ball travelling along the slow outfield and ran like mad to get a decent score on the board. Louis, Quinn and Jarrod contributed well and supported well by the rest of the team. When we had our chance of bowling the sun was out in all glory and the slow outfield something of the past. Andrew was absent week 1, and the captain threw Jack Mackellar the new ball. Jack had bowled 4 overs all season and seized this opportunity with both hands. Jack ripped through their top order with a fine display of swing bowling to take his first ever 5 for. Matt Cook chipped in at the end with 2 wickets. Corie chipped in with a run out. We really had our foot on their throat, including 5 ducks in their innings. When we came to bat, the opposition pulled off some fair catches, and at one stage, we were 3/28. Salts was the main stay of our innings, putting on 30 with Sam, and 25 with Corie. When Jack joined him at the crease, we only had a few runs to get. We passed their total and contemplated declaring to take a few more wickets in the afternoon. Our scoring had been quite slow up to that point. While I too'ed and fro'd about declaring, nek minit Salts and Jack had upped the tempo. In the last 12 overs of the day, Jack and Salts doubled our score with an 80 run partnership, leaving Salts on an unbeaten 83 and Jack on 31no. On day 2, we immediately declared to get back amongst the wickets. Andrew was back, and was looking for blood. Once Andrew struck the first blow, Matt started circling like a great white. What happened next was nothing short of a blood bath as Matt and Andrew shredded the opposition, and ended up in a race to see who would get the 5for. Even with putting down 5 catches for the day, we still did not have to bat a second time, and the game was over by 2.30pm.Toowong were second on the ladder, with Hawks in 3rd. The win in this game was a dominant display and we should now sit top of the ladder. It was great to see runs on the board with Andrew absent, and is a sign our middle order is finding what is needed at the right time. Our bowling was exemplary, but our catching in week 2 is the area to improve. Man of the match goes to Jack, for his fine spell of bowling and cameo with Salts to extend our first innings lead late on day 1, and just pips both Salts for his masterful innings and Matt for the haul on day 2. Congrats Jack. Keep it going. Colin Otto

Must be the weeks of practice coming to the fore else maybe just the cool weather and the threat that the boy with the cleanest pants has to buy the lollies for next week or perhaps having Oli, Sam and Will back after a rest period brought extra energy. The fielding yielded us 8 runouts, and some terrific bowling figures with Jett taking his first hattrick, with strong support by all Lockyer turning the ball that would have made Shae Warne proud, and Will bowling them full and straight. A great catch was taken in the deep in cows corner by Yianni. GAME REPORT: With the threat of showers looming from over the city the Grey hawks took to the field. The parents must have been forewarned about the fireworkers as they took their seats on the adjoining soccer field and observed with binoculars. At times during the game the parents pandered to the weather raising their umbrella s in celebration for a stellar fielding performance. The energy on the field was comparable to the noise from the Eatons Hill tavern where I doubt people were watching the Kangaroo s play the Cedars that s right a NRL team from Lebanon. Needless to say the boys fielded through the brief rain episodes with stoic indifference. The celebrations for each wicket would have made the Hondurans proud! Following a good effort in the field, the boys took their turn to wield the willow. Fcaing some great bowling and with an easterly breeze, the boys favoured the offside, but the wind made it difficult to achieve the lofty drives that we have grown accustomed too. But a good time was had by all. A special thanks to our stand in scorers for the evening the McTaggart family who bravely kept the score book dry in challenging conditions! Thanks to all of the parents for their continuing support! Dave Davies / Darren Tebbit

The Grey Hawks bowled superbly to put us under pressure right from the start, and despite a solid effort from captain Ansh Gidh, who again top scored with 14, Matteo Betts, who carved two beautiful boundaries in his 13, and Max Douglas and Hudson Morley who contributed 7 runs each, the wickets continued to tumble. Our running between the wickets continues to improve, and the next step for the Red Hawk batsmen is to practice hitting the ball really HARD! With lots of practice at home stay balanced, watch the ball and hit hard we will continue to get better and better. Taking the field to defend a small total we needed to focus on backing up in the field, fowling with a straight arm, and (especially) celebrating our wickets! And we didn t have to wait long for the latter of these three goals, when ma-of-the-match Matteo send a bullet down the wicket, and Ansh took a magnificent catch from a ball that was hit miles into the stratosphere probably the catch of the season so far. Max and Hudson continued their bowling improvement, straightening out their arms to take a wicket a piece, and the wo Dahl boys again displayed beautiful straight bowling to put the batsmen under huge pressure. Ethan especially demonstrated how effective a good line and length can be, finishing with the outstanding figures of 1-2, with his only two runs conceded being wides, and only because of some horrible umpiring decisions! Seb Betts was also a big improver with ball in hand bowling with speed and accuracy, and with more practice of following through more with both bat and ball is looking like his game is ready to go to the next level! With pressure building in the final overs, it came down to a nail-biting finish with Charlie Ellison getting a diving direct hit run out to finish the game in style. Lots of practice hitting hard and bowling with straight arms this week boys and we will be back bigger and better again next week! Mark Ellison / Belinda Morley

Although we took regular wickets, somehow they seemed to find the boundary every over through their inventive stroke play. Requiring just above 4 an over wasn't a concern for us, as we felt that we too would benefit from the shorter boundary and fast outfield. Col was gone early again, but Andrew and Danny consolidated, before Andrew was caught in the deep by the guy coming back from pissing behind the tree. Thommo got a beauty first up to end his afternoon, then Jack, Sam and Corie toiled away to get us close. In the end we needed 15 off the last 2 overs, and fell short. The change in format of the game is the challenge for us. Bowling is our strength, and we are a team of accumulators in the batting department. Scoring quicker for the next 6 rounds is the assignment, and will require a faster rotation of the strike to mitigate the run rate. Man of the match this game is Danny Brown for his well constructed 33 followed by his 2 for in the bowling, ably deceiving the batsmen with his flight. Luke Young also bowled really well with match figures of 4/18. Angus took 3 catches for the game and Riley took a great low down catch in the second innings. Wides were still a problem and easily the highest score on the opposition total. GAME REPORT: A strong win by the boys that was set up with good bowling and fielding in the first innings and having the opposition all out within 16 overs. Ben batted really well for his 36 as did Riley, also 36. Jack hit 33no, Angus 32, Luke Young 22 and Luke Sentence 21no so it was a good broad contribution for the team. Mark Durkin

The team is putting together better outcomes each week as each member improves at more of their cricket skills. Today saw them rediscover their chatter in the field, which is positive indeed. Valleys were triumphant, but given they scored 300+ in the previous game a fantastic effort to hold them to 4/179. The quality of our bowling effort was not reflected in the number of wickets taken. Our players are getting more confident with the bat in hand which supports the bowling efforts. The Goodwin siblings provided solid resistance mid innings, with Frances getting the strike turning over well, let s hope some more runs come from her bat next week, cause on this games efforts she s due. The second innings saw 2 catches by Adam Basson, a catch each by Ethan Young and Christian Dreyer and a spectacular game changing catch by Iain Jensen. GAME REPORT: Everton Comets won the toss and elected to bowl. The first innings saw a couple of early wickets followed by a stellar performance by Ethan Young to achieve 52 runs off 58 balls, racking up 8 fours and a six in the process. Christian Dreyer performed steadily, contributing 21 runs to bring the Eagle Hawks to 140 runs all out after 34 overs. Comets first order batsmen performed well and the game seemed to be slipping away from the Eagle Hawks. Good bowling performances by Daniel Marais (4/8 1M), Ethan Young (2/6 2M), Dhruv Chaudhari (2/9) and a catch by Iain Jensen, helped to get things back on track and win the first innings for Eagle Hawks. The second innings saw Daniel Marais come out swinging to score 52 runs off 36 balls (6x4s, 1x6). Strong bowling and fielding kept the Comets in check with a spectacular catch by Iain Jensen taking out Comets top scoring batsman. Eagle Hawks bowlers held their nerve which made for an exciting finish to the second innings and an overall win.
