1 EVERTON DISTRICTS SPORTING CLUB INC. Enoggera Memorial Park Mott Street, GAYTHORNE Q PO Box 501 ALDERLEY Q Club House (voice mail) Ph: /05/12 Web site: A view from the sidelines. Last week I was saying thank you to the managers. Well this week, it s the coaches. What a great job they do. Each week the match reports speak of improved performances from the kids and it really is down to the coaches, volunteers who happily turn up to help get the best out of our aspiring footy champs! THE HOWLER Youth Results: Round 4 U16 Ferny Grove def Everton U14 Everton def Jindalee Blue U12 Everton def Redcliffe My eldest played cricket in the off season and was shocked when it turned out his cricket coach was nothing like his footy coach. He couldn t wait to get back to the Wolves, to the best coach ever! Our coaches are role models for our kids and it s great to see that the kids know what a difference a good coach can make. So coaches, take heart, even though there are times when the kids can seem rowdy and not listening at all they really do take it in and we can see the results on the paddock! Thanks for your great work. If you have anything that you d like to contribute to the newsletter (articles or photos) please let me know. I can be contacted on sam.wilkinson@live.com.au and the deadline is midday Wednesday. Holiday Footy Camps Can t get enough footy? Here s your chance to hone your skills. There are even one s for our supporters. This weekend s matches JUNIORS Under 6 s (Round 4) Everton vs. Kedron (Blue) Everton Saturday 2 June 2012 Under 8 s (Round 7) Everton s. Ferny Grove (Mt Samson) Everton Page 2 of 5
3 Under 9 s (Round 7) Wilston Grange (White) vs. Everton Wilston Grange Under 10 s (Round 7) The Gap vs. Everton The Gap Under 11 s (Round 7) Aspley (Black) vs. Everton Aspley This weekend s matches YOUTH (Round 5) Sunday 3 June 2012 Under 16 s Everton vs. Aspley (Brown) Everton Under 14 s Everton vs. Beenleigh Everton but the boys were on their game and showed some great defensive play and ball movement to compete well and play well. There was some great positional play from the boys, making strong leads and running off each other for handballs. Noah was one of the best at this all game working hard for the team. Jake worked his way into the game, with some solid marking and defence and coupled with Rhys who worked hard tackling and putting pressure on the person with the ball, making it hard for the opposition and causing turnovers. The boys are working well together, looking to pass to each other when they can rather than just kicking the ball long. Thomas had a good all round game with James and Will looking for opportunities to handball to get us moving when they had the ball in hand and Aster and Ashley made position well to receive handballs or kicks from team mates to create options. Under 12 s BYE Match Reports - JUNIORS The team continues to develop with Max, Tyson and Lachlan continuing to improve in their skill in getting the loose ball when it was in dispute and Aaron is making some good leads and marking attempts under pressure from the opposition. UNDER 8 s Round 6 vs Wilston Grange On a cold morning at the Wilston ground, with a clear blue sky, the entire team made a good effort against Wilston. All players got involved in the game which was pleasing to see. Our midfield did well to be first to the ball and they did well to get it down to the forwards. Our defence this week was better. This week the player of the match award went to Zachary Grills who ran well looking for the ball and trying to be first to the ball and kept trying his best all 4 quarters. Congratulations Zachary, keep up the good work. Steve Kossaris Under 8's Coach UNDER 9 s Round 6 vs Kedron It was a tough game to pick a standout player as everybody put in a great effort but it was Ryan who worked hard all game, leading well, sharing the ball around and putting pressure on the opposition when he did not have the ball. It was a fantastic effort from the boys and they were rewarded with some good passages of play and a game they all enjoyed. Sean Doolan Under 9 s Coach UNDER 10 s Round 6 vs Ferny Grove A tough game against Ferny Grove this week but some great footy played especially in the second quarter. Thanks for Will and Rhys backing up from the under 9 s and playing very well. Rhys showed great courage running into a pack for a mark. The Under 9 s took on Kedron at home this week on a cool windy morning. Kedron were a well drilled team Page 3 of 5
4 Liam had an excellent game and used his long kicking again to advantage and Cooper s run and kicking was instrumental in setting up many forward moves and goals. Lane gets better each week and takes on board instructions and is really developing well with some fantastic work in the forward line. Kurt was a bit unlucky when a couple of bounces of the ball just went astray, which would have seen him in a position to kick a few goals, but he is learning to play to position much better. This was one of Aiden s best games, great defence and he ran the ball forward really well. Mac was working well again in the engine room producing another consistent performance, as was Ben who is really playing well again this year. Bailey worked hard in all positions and his defensive work has improved to compliment his attacking side of the game. Caleb also has really worked on his defence which is great to see and he did some clever things around goal, We were not as consistent this week but still ground out a hard fought performance so if we stick to our game plan we are sure to go up a notch again this week. Brenton Tapp Under 10 s Coach Match Reports - YOUTH Under 14 s vs Jindalee (Round 3) The backline dominated the opposition forwards and rebounded the footy very well to our advantage. Led by Max and Henry at FB and CHB respectively, our other defenders including Lachlan C, Jukesy, Lachie T, Lachie Mc and Mitch F worked extremely well together to beat their opponents and set up our midfielders in transition. Up forward, Lucas played his best game of the year also and he too spent time in the ruck which enabled Schmidty time deep forward. Pleasingly, Jake got a fair bit of the footy in the foward line and linked up well with his team mates by hand and by foot. Other forwards including Taylor, Blake, Dan A and Willsy got plenty of quality footy and capitalised on the opportunities that came their way. These boys were instrumental in both scoring goals as well as setting up their team mates for scoring opportunities. This week saw our best four quarter effort for the season with all players having an impact on the game and doing exactly what they were asked to do by the coaches. Well done boys! Goal scorers: Schmidty (6), Ryley, Lachie W, Ben K & Mitch F (2 each), Lachie M, Jarrod, Lachie T and Lucas (1 each). Phil Reid - U14 coach Sev Clarke - U14 Asst Coach Jason Tapp Manager The U14s focus this week was to improve on our previous conversion rates in terms of effective shots on goal. With an 18-6 return, the boys surpassed all of our expectations and were rewarded on the scoreboard from their forward 50 entries. Dan S was outstanding in the ruck as well as when he pushed forward giving us another tall marking option. As per previous weeks, our midfield group including Mitch B, Jarrod, Cookie, Josh, Ryley, Tully and Tom B were fantastic. Ben K pushed into the centre for a large part of the game after Jarrod got a bad knock early in the game and played his best game of the season to date. Well done Ben! Fortunately, Jarrod was able to return shortly afterwards and lead his troops around the ground very well. Page 4 of 5
