Our Under 8 teams could use your help as they are playing with minimum numbers each week. We have a special for NEW players born in Sign up now and receive a free uniform. If you have any friends that would like to join your team please let them know that we are still accepting registrations and there are still 11 weeks of the season to be played. We have reached the half way point of the season but there is still plenty of footy to be played with 9 more rounds of the home and away season and the possibility of finals for those who qualify. 3 MATCH REPORTS Under 9 Gold Round 5 v Wilston Grange On Saturday we played at home to Wilston Grange Red, a team that contained a number of familiar faces from U8 football last year. We welcomed a new addition to the team Michael Mace or Mikey as he is now being named. He contributed well for his first game laying a few very good tackles and assisting in one goal. The Gorillas jumped us from the first bounce and the ball was constantly being pumped into our defensive zone making it a torrid quarter for our defenders. In fact the ball did not cross into our forward zone once for the quarter. Our forwards in particular were asked to take advantage of their fresh legs in the next quarter and didn t disappoint. To the credit of the boys they were far more competitive for the next three quarters and in some patches were able to get a bit of a run on and kick some great goals. Campbell was our captain this week, which was well earned from his performance last week against Ferny Grove. Like the rest of the team he battled hard and improved as the game went on. The training award this week went to Blake for his great listening at training and making life easy for the coaches. Thanks to Simon and the other parents for covering for me due to my late showing at training. The Player of the Week this week went to Lucas. He was pretty exhausted by quarter time given his starting role in defence but battled hard for the rest of the match including a scoring spree of 3 goals in the 3 rd quarter. Well done to Campbell, Blake and Lucas! Thanks to Mark for all the great pics! This week s game we are once again up against a Gorillas opponent. This time it will be against Wilston Grange Green away at 11.00am. No doubt another tough game in front of us. Please be there by 10.30am at the latest. Training will be normal this week at 5pm. Under 11 Girls Round 5 v Zillmere We travelled out to Zillmere for our first away game and we shared players again.

I want to thank all the girls for their willingness to be a part of this as it means they get a game (no forfeit) and it maximises participation which is one of the club values. Claire While she is good at keeping in space, her best moment was fearlessly tackling the oppositions biggest player and wrapping her up. Isabella Her attack on the ball is second to none and her acceleration with the ball is brilliant. Never balks at a tackle no matter how big the opponent. Jessica Played really well especially in 3 rd quarter with her defence on Zillmeres best player (Alyssa). Missed out on the last quarter and a half but come back and led the team in her captain s role. Kaitlyn Her happiness in the last quarter when working with Georgia to kick 2 goals was great. Sarah She is increasing her running and desire for the ball and working with her team. Will only continue to improve as the team does. Sienna She is loving this game and gets better every time she puts on the boots. Her tackling has improved which is great to see. Sinead Another game and she continues to get better. Her tackling is getting stronger and her kicks are always 4

Kenmore was pretty physical but I think the boys matched them and then gave them some. Generally we are slightly smaller than the other teams but they are learning that they cannot intimidate us with their size. The message at the beginning of the day " I want the ball" seem to resonate with them and it was a credit to all of them when at the 3rd qtr break they were asked who had anything left and they all put their hands up. The last quarter was built on the solid effort of the first half. There were a few bruised and walking wounded but they all continued to play hard and didn't relent in that last quarter. get a better read and each week we can see the improvement. Another good aspect were the boys sticking to the game plan. Rotating the mid field worked well. Levi Hamish and Zaedyn continue to get in and get the hard ball and having Mitch S providing run and carry and also marking helps with that movement enormously. In all it was clearly our best game of the year and the most pleasing part was every player contributed. Wasn't it awesome to see all of the boys lifting to a whole new level. Brad Van Gorp Our big plus this week was our tackling. The physicality of the likes of Levi, Zaedyn, and Hamish is always around but Karl's efforts provided some real impact in the close in stuff. But the smaller men, Charles and both Jack's, really helped as well. Good second efforts by these boys. Jack S laid a couple of fair but hard tackles that stopped the Kenmore boys in their tracks. And those boys were much bigger than him. Having Blair in the middle was also a plus. He seems to have an ability of perhaps not always winning the ruck but he tangles guys up and slows the ball release to the opposition. Jasper and Luke also provided good options. They continue to evolve and their impacts at the contest and now more running is starting to show benefit. The use of Oliver and then Alan in the second half also gave us good drive in the middle. The getting down to the ball and picking it up was also a big improvement. Marking is getting better. There were some good grabs by Mitch S, Oliver, Luke and Eden. Running hard with the ball, great work all round, Declan, Luke, Oliver, Jasper and Matt had some really good moments in the game. The setup in the beginning of the game was good and moving into the running 3rd quarter was excellent. Declan really stood out in that third quarter with his running and pick up of the ball. We know we have plenty of boys who can run but particularly pleasing was how the likes of Alan, Oliver, Eden, Matt, Billy and Max ramped it up in the last quarter. Their pace and use of space outside is improving weekly. With that space we know we can score. Mitch H had a great game. He really came into it in the last qtr, with plenty of strong runs. Every pick up and run was through traffic and he was creating options. That last tackle he copped though was a sling and he hit the ground hard. Chris and Alex are also real work horses who picked up bumps during the game but continued to contribute right until the end. Jesse continues to 5

6 Under 14 Round 9 v Sandgate Red Friday night Footy action for our U14 team at Sandgate was a slippery affair in cold dewy conditions. After a slow start, the team adjusted to the conditions and where able to finish strongly and win the game convincingly. 6

7 CANTEEN MANAGER WANTED The Team From Grill d Everton Park are doing a great job helping us out on Saturdays, but we are still looking for a highly motivated person or group of people to run our canteen on SUNDAYS. Each game parents are rostered on to help in the canteen but we need someone who can be in charge of food preparation. You can just volunteer to manage one day or all days.
