22 April 2015 Issue 1 Presidents Report Well here we are again. Round 1 of a new and exciting year of TIGERS footy. We are celebrating 10 successful years as AST Tigers this year and I hope all new and old players and parents embrace the celebrations of the season ahead. A big thanks to Rod and Fran who have worked hard over the last two weeks getting our registrations near completion, and getting our teams on the field this weekend. Important Diary Dates 8 May 2015 Last Man Standing starts 24 May 2015 Bingo Day 20 June Year Celebration Just remember Coaches and Trainers there are a few new regulations this year and they need to be completed so you can be with your teams on the field this year. Please help Rod out and get these done ASAP. To all Parents please remember to make yourself available to help out in the Canteen or BBQ or field set up if you have the time. MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK. I would like to congratulate all our teams on their efforts in Round 1, but one team deserves a special mention. To our U14s I would just like to say WELL DONE. At one stage I did not think we would have a team this year, but the boys and Coach stuck solid and slowly got a team together. For them to come out and win their first game this weekend was just fantastic. To all Parents, Players, Trainers and Coaches, please remember why we are here and that is for the kids. We do not need to see the UGLY TIGER coming out in anyone this year. Glad to see all the old Tigers back, and to all our new Tigers a big welcome and hope you enjoy your season with us. GO THE TIGERS!!! Steve PHOTO OF THE WEEK Congratulations Is this you?? If it is - go to the canteen to get your free can of soft drink and a sausage sizzle.

Match Reports week ending 2015 Under 6s & U7s Unfortunately our U6 & U7 teams didn t get a chance to play this weekend as their Gala Day was cancelled. Under 8, Green AST Tigers 14 vs Parra City Titans 32 The under 8's green team played a good game against the Titans on Saturday. Curtis Cutbush was awarded man of the match for great attack and defence. Good work to the whole team keep it up. "GO TIGERS" Under 8, Yellow AST Tigers 30 vs Kellyville 16 It s great to be back and even better to be playing round 1 at fortress CV Kelly. To say the kids were excited is an understatement as they were pumped and ready to take on the Bushrangers. First up some great news as this year we have welcomed 3 new players to the 8 s, all from other clubs, Nathan, Sam & Lachlan enjoy your time at the Tigers boys and it s great to have you and your parents on board. Now for the game although we were missing our coach and 2 players due to school holidays, we were still confident in getting a win first up. From the get-go today the boys were in control led by the Captain of the day Jayden. We were running hard and tackling around the legs which was great to see, a special mention for AJ who worked hard all day in both attack and defence. We led at every break and never looked like losing. Today there were 6 tries scored in total, Izaak scored 3 tries and 1 each for Sam, Nathan & Lachlan in their first official games for the mighty Tigers and let s hope there are plenty more to come!. Supporting the try scorers were Nathan, Ben and Lorenzo who all kicked 1 goal each. The Player of the Match for round 1 went to Ben who has joined us from the Green team, Bens reward was due to his barn storming runs and a goal to go with it. Well done Ben and keep up the great work! Tries: Izaak 3, Sam 1, Nathan 1 & Lachlan 1 Goals: Nathan 1, Ben 1 & Lorenzo 1 Welcome back everyone and see you around the grounds! Tim (Moggo) on behalf of Tapu & Greg

Under 9, Division 2 AST Tigers 22 vs Rouse Hill 16 Round one found us up against a former team mate Byron and his new club Rouse Hill. Following a fairly successful run in the trial games, the boys were keen to start the season with a win and that s exactly what they did. The scoring was opened with Ryan scooting from dummy half and diving over the line. Our second try was scored by Carter in his usual style of charging at the opposition and leaving a trail of defenders in his wake. Tyson stepped up to successfully kick the only conversion we scored in the game. Our third try came from what almost looked like an action replay of Ryan s first try when he once again took off from dummy half to charge at the line. This time Ryan had to step back inside a couple of defenders to dive over to score. We conceded only one converted try in the first half so we went to the break leading The two unsuccessful conversion attempts came as a bit of a shock as both Ben and Ryan did not miss any of their conversion attempts last season. The second half was a little closer as both teams scored two trys each. Ben was the next on the score board. Ben found himself in some space and slapped on the pace to score. Our last try was scored by Houston who is emerging as one of our consistent quiet achievers who has lifted his work rate in both defence and attack. Both second half trys were unconverted. The Man of the Match award went to Sio. Sio has consistently made a big impact this year. Sio worked very hard right through the game in both defence and attack. When Byron made a break and looked like his was going to score Sio ran him down and saved a try being scored against us. Well done Sio you have set a high standard for the others to follow. Our new award, Outstanding Performance, went to Tyson Whiteside. The award is to recognise a player that specifically steps up an aspect of their game. With Daniel s help this week we started some new tackling drills. Tyson was the best performer with this drill at training and he consistently demonstrated it right though the game. Tyson s impact with his tackles was very impressive making a few of the opposition players think twice about having another run anywhere near Tyson. The boys are developing well under the new rules and playing conditions of Mod League. Keep an eye out for a replay of the game when Kim Whiteside shares this week s video of the boys in action. Well done Tigers Rod.

Under 10, Division 1 AST Tigers 24 vs Parra Jnr Eels A great first game from the boys to kick off the season. It took a while for the first try to be scored, but Jy finally broke through to get the first points on the board. The Eels went in not long after and then Jay followed up with a nice try in the corner to see us leading 12 6 at half-time. Some excellent defence from the boys, especially Alex, Byron, Josh and Aiden and some great runs from Quintin, Ben, Lachlan, Cris and new kids to the club, Aaron and Daniel. Jy kicked off the scoring again in the second half running nearly the length of the field to score his second. One more try to the Eels before Aiden scored in the corner and then Daniel slipped through the tired Eels defence to score the final points for the match. A great effort from Aiden in attack and defence saw him awarded Man of the Match. Also, a huge thank you to Michael for stepping in as Coach in Steve s absence. Steve, Steve, Michael and Heidi

Under 10, Division 4 AST Tigers 24 vs Fairfield Pats 36 It was a warm and clear Autumn day, the waft of sausages sizzling on the barbie hung in the air, mouth guards, head gear and shoulder pads were at the ready. The ref raised his arm, the timers gave their nod, the whistle blew and Season 2015 was under way! With only eight players available to take the field and with a noticeable size difference it was a big ask for a little team! But these young men took it all in their stride, proving you can be small in stature but giant in heart! Every one of these Tiger's played strong and brave, every one of them tackled well, every one of them made some metres in attack, every one of them stood up shoulder to shoulder with their team mates. Every one of them deserves a mention: Zander- Small and lithe, built for speed! Had a few great runs and made some mighty metres! Ashton- Crossed the line for the 4, was solid and consistent in defence and attack, played strong and fast! Anthony- Never missed a beat in attack or defence, always keen to be in on the action, consistently involved in the game! Jack- Was first receiver for the first half, put the ball over the cross bar for 2, he made some great metres in attack. Handled himself like a seasoned pro, despite it being the first time he s taken the field in a match game! Jesiah- Played with confidence in the dummy half role, made at least three line breaks, and even made some strong tackles! Ethan- Crossed three times! A mighty hat trick! Converted his own try with a strong controlled kick! Took on the first receiver role in the second half. Strong in attack and with some bold tackles also strong in defence! Dylan- Fast and consistent! Unlucky to hit the cross bar with his conversion attempt (Missed it by that much)! Locklin- Crossed for four, and narrowly missed his own conversion! Played with the wisdom and maturity of a boy who's played the game before! With some good sportsmanship shown by Fairfield Pats, and with a fair and consistent ref (who deserves an extra mention for giving each of the players and coaching staff a Chuppa Chup; who knew the most popular person at the end of a game could be the ref!!!) It's not cliché to say that Footy was the winner on the day! Stand tall and proud young men you have the promise and hope of the season ahead of you! Weekly awards will be presented to: Man of the Match - The most outstanding player on the field! Coaches Award - The player who best puts into practice the skills learned at training. Who rises to the challenges set by the coach and trainers! Parents Award - Awarded by the side line experts, who are on the lookout for examples of hard work and diligence, great sportsmanship and team spirit! This weeks awards go to: MoM- Ethan Tucker Coaches Award- Jesiah Henderson Parents Award- Jack Garrard Jacque (On behalf of (Stand in) Coach Ronnie and Nugget)

Under 11, Division 4 AST Tigers 36 vs Parra City Titans 26 Great to have the season off and running! A tough back and forth victory for the teams opening game of the season. With plenty of points scored by both teams, our line speed in defense and fitness throughout will need to improve. We crossed for 7 tries, with Siosi and Corey managing to pick up doubles for the team. With both Josephs and Luke also managing to open their try scoring accounts in the season opener. Player of the match went to Sammy for his efforts and dedication to improving at training and on game day. Congratulations!! Good work to all the boys. It will be a tough season, but we'll only get better. Under 12, Division 2 Game cancelled due to ground closure Under 12, Division 4 AST Tigers 16 vs Parra City Titans 30 Our first game of the year and not really the result we were looking for. We started well, tackling strongly and looking keen. After Cooper ran the length of the field to open the scoring things were going ok. Unfortunately we were out enthused by our opposition and fell behind at half time. We tried hard in the second half but could not bridge the gap. All the boys gave their all, but we could not find our groove out their today. Game chocolate went to Will, with Frank close behind him. Tries: Will 3 & Cooper 1 Well done boys Steve

Under 13, Division 2 AST Tigers 36 vs Hills District 10 The first half started with AST Tigers receiving the football from the kick off. Both teams seemed evenly matched. At around the 8 minute mark AST Tigers broke Hills defensive line to score the first try of the day in the corner by Zac. This try was further complimented by a fantastic conversion from close to the sideline by Andrew. From the beginning it was evident that the team that remained composed in defence would have the edge. Ten minutes in and we broke their defensive line again by Mathew who showed skill and confidence and defused a bomb on our try line evading tacklers to run the length of the field to score our second try. The try was converted and took us to a 12 nil start. Hills District muscled up in defence and scored the next two try's taking the game in to half time with AST Tigers maintaining a slim lead As the second half started AST Tigers came out with purpose to not allow any further points to be scored against them. Both teams defence resulted in big hits and excellent covering defence. Our forwards (Joel, Andrew, Hayden, Tyrone, Jordan and Jacob) created a solid defensive line in the centre together with bone crunching tackles from Sione and Paine on the fringes proved an impenetrable defensive line. This was no more evident than in the final moments of the game when Andrew pulled off one of the biggest hits of the game on the opposing teams biggest forward. Both teams showed great defence but great team work and individual brilliance from AST Tigers in the second half including tries to Romal (3), Andrew (1) and conversions to Ryan (5) allowed the boys to run away with the win A special mention must go to the smaller boys (Gabriel, Tyson, Brad and Ryan) on the field, who showed great heart and never took a backward step even when faced with the task of tackling boys double their size. Maker (Malok) who has joined our team this year, and having never played a game prior to joining our team, continued to show great improvement and is becoming an integral part of the team. Well done boys on a great win. Under 14, Division 4 AST Tigers 26 vs Canley Heights 24 No report submitted Under 16, Division 3 AST Tigers 34 vs Mounties 4 No report submitted

C Grade, Division 2 AST Tigers 40 vs. Hills District 0 Although we have a long way to go it was pleasing to see the boys work as a team today. Hills only had the bare team, but under a threat from yours truly we kept them scoreless even though we gave them way to many opportunities in the second half as we dropped our intensity. All in all a pleasing effort first up but let s hope we can find another gear as the games get harder. Tries: Lockhart, Ash, Luke, Nathan M,Joseph, Dylan(2) and Jayden L (2) Goals: Dylan(1), Ash(1) and lots of misses Coaches pts: Ash 3, Nathan 2 & Philpsy 1 Coach A Grade Division 1 AST Tigers 8 vs Parra Jnr Eels 62 No report submitted Newsletter Mailing Lists Want to receive the newsletter as soon as it is finished (why wait after all).
