25 July 2012 Issue 13 Last Man Standing Important Diary Dates Nov 2012 Father son weekend It may have taken a few extra weeks this year but finally we are down to the business end of the LMS season after the LMS Reaper decided to put the cleaners through the 34 punters that entered into round 20 with only five coming out the other side. In a round that was harder to pick than a broken nose Brett Matthieu and Robbie Hakim jumped on the Rabbits to sneak through. Paul Kalitis must have a set of Niagara Falls the size of an elephant by taking the Dogs to beat Manly at Brookvale. This type of LMS play has caused a ruckus at Sportingbet where Paul has rocketed into favouritism to take the title. And then there is MJM and Pete Polo who both received the proverbial kiss on the Ayers Rock after not getting their tip in on time and rode the MIGHTY EELS through to the next round. I personally think that like me they both knew Parra were an absolute special to win the game but they didn t want to tip them as it would have saw their title odds plummet at Sportingbet very shrewd work fellas. Anyway as all good reporters do, and even some of us crap ones as well, I have been frantically researching the remaining five combatants and I think it s time to get to know a little about these contenders. Brett hails from the sleepy seaside town of Woolgoolga on the North coast of NSW is a bit of a Mystery man, especially amongst his mates as none of them actually know what he does and have never met any of his girlfriends... hmmmmmm. Robbie is the son of the Toonie Tigers very own Lebanese Adonis, Tony Best legs ever to wear footy shorts Hakim, and can be seen terrorising opposition teams in the Under 9 s. He is also a very good judge when it comes to football teams as he supports none other than the mighty Eels. Besides having a massive set on him Paul also has two boys, Sione and Jason, playing in the under 8 s and 10 s respectively and will be proudly flying the LMS flag for the Tigers Polynesian contingent. Now although it will be debated more than the Greg Inglis shoulder charge, rules are rules so these last 2 get a shot at the $1000. MJM (aka Mick Maguire) is known amongst his mates as extremely staunch, as loyal as the day is long. Mick has followed footy all his life and to highlight his loyalty you only need to look at his footy team, the Raiders, who he has followed now for almost two seasons. Yes you read it right, almost 2 seasons my 6 year old has followed Parra longer... Now this leaves Pete Polo who I must say was the hardest to research out of the lot as I continually got the same information and then an abrupt dead end, it was really weird. Anyway the information I got was to do with his wife s wardrobe and Oxford Street and unlike most footy fans Pete s favourite time of year is not September it is February/March where he likes to go floating. I couldn t quite piece it together but it must be something to do with swimming I guess. With another tough round of games coming up who out of the Final five will stand up and be a contender and who will be a pretender? Brownie

Match Reports Week Ending 22 nd July 2012 Under 6, Group 3 AST Tigers 32 vs. Canley Heights 24 This weekend we were at Rosford St Oval taking on the Canley Heights Dragon's - a battle between the top 2 teams. This was a game our team really wanted to win as Canley Heights has been the only team to beat us, and we did it, we won! On behalf of the Coaching Staff and Parents we want to congratulate our players on such a spectacular performance and thank you all for the immense effort you put into this game, we just simply couldn't have asked for more. Your hard work over the past several weeks has paid off for sure. A big mention this weekend goes to Sio Tuala who scored another superb hat trick, and Houston Pua Pua who scored a massive 5 BRILLIANT tries. Such a great effort from both boys. Our Man of the Match Medal & Tiger went to Houston Pua Pua for his outstanding game both in attack and in defence and our Encouragement Award went to Carter Tagaloasa for never giving up and showing strong commitment. Awesome team work Tigers - we are so very proud of you all. GO THE TIGERS. Kat, Karen, Tai & Mike Under 6, Group 4 AST Tigers 16 vs. Seven Hills 28 This week we played our neighbours from Seven Hills. The morning was cold and overcast but the boys were pumped following a good training session the night before. The boys played well in both defence and attack with the final score not being a true reflection of just how close the game was. We managed to score 4 tries and concede 6 but it was one of those days where we were very unlucky with a disallowed try and were so close to stopping one of theirs. If things had of been slightly different the game could have easily ended up 5 tries each with their 2 conversations the difference. Even though this wasn t the case, our defensive work was strong again this week particularly with some big tackles being made by Mitch. Our smallest and youngest Tiger Zach, bravely got involved in a lot of defensive work and earned himself the Encouragement Award for this week. Well done Zach. Tries weren t easy to score this week and Ethan worked very hard to cross the line for a double. Byron scored one of the tries of the match going close to the side line and then stepping back in towards the middle to score under the posts. Still running hot from his form last week, Ryan produced the other try of the match dragging their two main defenders to one side of the field before stepping back inside them and also scoring under the posts. It is encouraging to see all the boys running in such a positive manner looking for opportunities to run through gaps and get to the try line. It s great to see just how far they have come in their first year. Well done again this week. Sonia & Rod. Go Tigers!

Under 7, Group 2 AST Tigers 30 vs. Hills District 12 Firstly a BIG Thankyou to Steve for coaching last week whilst I had the dreaded lurgy, it was great to watch a game from the sideline & see Steve take home his first win as coach, thanks heaps. To this week & again in the winners circle. Hills got off to a flyer, but we managed to keep up early & go try for try, our defensive effort was solid & heading into the break 10-8 up, we never looked back. The second term we defended them out of the game & with tries to Jess, Jy & Luke the game was put beyond doubt. With Grayson backing up with a double, this was one of our more solid performances for the year. With a focus on our defence in the final term, the tackle counts for the boys were rising. Daniel put in a solid defensive effort, as did Aiden & Christian & with Byron & Reina now performing consistently, these young lads are growing into quite a team. Our goal kicking finally paid dividends this week with three from five. A great all round team performance which was great to watch & with a couple of tough games remaining, it will be a good challenge for the boys to perform at their best. Thanks to Jason for being manager on the weekend too, & Hayley was caught helping in the canteen last week until we needed her to be manager...thanks Hayley. Tries - Grayson & Jy - 2 each, Jess & Luke - 1 each Goals - Grayson, Luke & Jy - 1 each Player of the week - Daniel Coaches Award - Aiden A reminder to Mums & Dads, we are at home this week & some help in the canteen or BBQ would be great. Please be there before the game &, or for a while after. Bruce Under 7, Group 4 AST Tigers 14 vs. Canley Heights 36 WOW what a performance we saw on Saturday from the Tigers with the boys really getting it together and playing as a team, Dave didn't have to tell them where to go. Unfortunately we don' t have Jay for the rest of the season as he has a broken arm so we wish him all the best and hope he gets better for the Gala Day. Lachlan broke through a couple of defenders and scored his first try of the year. Blake had his determined face on and made some great runs and used his palm well. Lachlin used his special step to dodge around some defenders and score a good try. Koby made some beautiful cover tackles and scored a nice try. Anthony has improved with lots more confidence taking them on in attack and defence and he also kicked a goal. Zander surprised us all by playing in dummy half and organizing the team, calling who s run it was next awesome work mate. Robbie enjoyed himself this and got more involved in tackling and running the ball. We were all helping each other and wrapping the ball up. We didn't win but our performance was amazing and we played like a team. Zander went home with man of the match. Tammy, Dave and Nathan

Under 8, Division 2 AST Tigers 40 vs. Seven Hills 18 The last time we played Seven Hills it was our first game in 2nd div and the boys ran out winners. Today was a real test to see how far the playing group has come along in the past 6 weeks. The boys showed on the scoreboard exactly how much they have improved. The direction of our half back Matty was exceptional, he steers our attack around and linking some dummy plays with Billy these boys make the game look easy. Big striding runs from Noah and Sioasi had Seven Hills reeling on the back foot. I have said it week after week but the boys defensive line is really improving, on 2 or 3 times we held Seven Hills out when they had the ball. We had 2 boys from the 7 s play today and they didn t look out of place whatsoever. On this effort the boys are getting better each week and it was a real team effort. I would like to thank Carl once again for helping out with the boys on Saturdays and to Mick for his time, knowledge and patience in getting these boys to where they are right now. Go the Tigers Nathan Under 8, Division 4 AST Tigers 34 vs. Fairfield United 14 This was a very important game this week, this was a game we were expected to win and as all coaches know sometimes these are the hardest games. As expected Fairfield came out all guns blazing and went to the first break up thanks to a very large and good player in their team, but once Luke and Konnor took the field in the second third they made it their job to chop him down every time he ran and they did! Fairfield never got another try! We stuck to our game plan and led by a rampaging Mad Max Duggan who crossed for three tries and some desperate on line defence we came away with a strong win. All the boys are really putting in at the moment with everyone contributing something throughout the match such as a great tackle or a strong run when we really need it. Two games to go now and we are right in there with a chance to make the semi's but regardless of what happens the boys have done themselves proud with their efforts and I think it has been a successful year. Jason

Under 9, Division 3 AST Tigers 0 vs. Winston Hills 24 Playing to cement our spot in the semi's was possible but at half time with a score of 20 to nil it was not looking promising. Hills tigers were good on their feet and had some speed to burn. With another questionable week of refereeing brilliance, penalties were flowing against us on the back of our defense and attack. Showing the opposition the colour of the side line and some great tackling (Noah as always great work) momentum was not with us. We were held up twice and an attempt at the line by Kurtis was called short even with the cheer from the team. Second half we held them out to only score 4 points. The white streak had his best game of the season, he was amongst it all in dummy half, defence and some good runs. Luke that Up and Go made you on game day some great metres - well done. Del, great effort today your attack was straighter and made some good tackles. This game could of been so different - that's footy.(swear we were the eels side of 2011). As always, the team putting in, showing their individual style and team effort. This team has done really well together this season and we look forward to the games left for Man of the Match Jamie and Luke Player of the Week Noah Off to McDonalds Del Paul, Col, Tony and Annie Under 10, Division 1 AST Tigers 12 vs. Wentworthville 36 A great game of footy today our boys really put in a fantastic performance. The start of the game our boys were unlucky with a few bad refereeing calls against us giving Wenty a lot of possession but only one of their big boys was able to break us to score their tries even though they kept giving him the ball twice on every set we did stop him a lot. Wenty went into half time leading us 24 to nil but the 2nd half was an outstanding half from our boys who really put it to Wenty, our defence was so much better - the boys were moving up on them & their big boy, giving him no time to build up speed & were shutting him down, we even put on some solid big hits that shocked him. Our great defence got us more ball for us to play some great attacking footy scoring 2 great tries from set plays with kicks making the 2nd half score 12 all. If only the 1st half decisions didn t go against us I believe we played well enough to even win the game. It was great to see the boys play competitive footy & I really enjoyed watching this game & the smiles on the boys faces knowing that they matched one of the top four teams. Great game boys very proud of all of you. Lennox & Matthew 1 try each Anthony & Matthew 1 goal each Man of the match - Bradley Effort award Anthony GO THE MIGHTY TIGERS Joe

Under 10, Division 4 AST Tigers 30 vs. Rouse Hill 8 What can we say, all the boys turned up to play football this week, after being well down the week before 44 6 with 15 to go and end up being beaten all the boys left the field with their heads held high and realised it does not matter the size of the opposition it comes down to controlling the ball and working together in defence (maybe we should have had the Big Marn and defensive coach Spud do the small talk programme earlier in the season as the boys did point out they had a defensive problem and after the programme they have turned around their effort in a big way). The scary thing is we told the boys they needed to be a bit more aggressive, well they certainly were that from the start, in defence if one was in they were all in to make sure the opposition were put firmly on the ground to the point where they were pulled up a few times for being too aggressive. In attack they took the ball straight up to them and then moved it wide with Max crossing for 5 tries, this was made a little easier for him with great runs from Brian, Mohammed, Jayden, Jordan, Saxon, Luke, Hayden, Jack B, Jason, Ethan, Jack F (great try assist) and Harley. Well done boys considering against this team in the first round you went down and this time we got them 30 8 what a turn around. It goes to show what a little bit of determination, self believe and aggression does - keep it up for the rest of the season and enjoy your football, great effort. Note for self when a player is replaced for lashing out when getting up to play the ball don t ask them why they did it as the response I received was you told us to be aggressive we will leave it at that. Daz, Brownie, Defensive Coach Spud & Boof. Under 11, Division 2 AST Tigers 12 vs. Parra City Titans 16 No report submitted Under 11, Division 4 AST Tigers 10 vs. Parra City Titans 18 No report submitted

Under 13, Division 3 AST Tigers 44 vs. CVD Cobras 10 Great game by the boys, returning to close to the form we know they can play. They tackled well and kept to our game plan for most of the match. There was a time just before half time and just after we let the cobras back in the game. We can t afford to do this against the good teams in the semi-finals. Back to the good news, great game across the whole team. Daniel R was back to his defensive best and made some great attacking runs. Daniel ran strongly all game and was rewarded with two tries. Over all the entire forward pack put in for the whole game and showed the effort they put in at training was put in on the game day. So guys we have two more games of the season left so let s get in and keep progressing and I am sure we can repeat the success of last year. Just remember guys you have earnt it. Just would like to thank Jim, Steve, Pat & Uddles from A grade for helping out at training last week. Mark, Warren, Chris, James, Danielle Ps hope our ball girl Cassie Murray gets over her injury and is back to help us soon Under 14, Division 4 AST Tigers 30 vs. Hills District 28 Another game that went down to the last second with us hanging on for a well deserved win. Another slow start saw us down at half time, but the boys showed what they are capable of coming home strongly and playing some good footy at the same time. We have a must win game this Saturday and the Coach is confident we can do it. Steve

Under 16, Division 1 AST Tigers 4 vs. Parra City Titans 30 The Titans played really good football and were a much bigger and more aggressive team and were able to control and dominate the ruck area against us. They were rolling forward very easily and it would have been easy for us to throw in the towel but to their credit the boys really stuck together and toughed out a really gutsy performance. Although we only managed the one try I think this was one of our best offensive performances this season as we created 4 or 5 try scoring opportunities only to have the last pass go astray or some good scramble from the Titans deny us points. Had we converted a couple of these opportunities in the first half it would have been a very different game. The most pleasing part was that we went into half time down 24 nil after they scored 3 tries in the last 10 minutes of the 1st half but instead of spitting the dummy the boys stuck together and it was a try apiece in the 2nd half. Another game that is hard to single out players but Hayden really led from the front in attack and defence. Josh Toafa worked really hard and Dean caused them plenty of trouble with some good scoots. In the backs Rickard played really good again as did Jacob Maclean. Philpy continues to improve in the halves and caused them some headaches with some good options as well as cutting them up with his speed and footwork. Keep your heads up boys and we will win more than we lose for the remainder of the season. Hugh Jarse C Grade Division 1 AST Tigers 12 vs. Mounties 12 A game we should have won with the so called super try scorer/coaching god award recipient bombing a few. Despite the adverse weather conditions, our loyal supporters cheered us on to a near victory, the coaching god was happy at the coclusion despite a slight relapse into his usual #@%ts Todd, Spike, Steve, Little Pete, Rick & Josh A Grade Division 2 AST Tigers 52 vs. Parra Jnr Eels 6 A/grade def Parra Jnr Eels It was a scrappy win with lots of dropped balls, and the occasional good play. Ato and Cookie scored a double and Pinder scored a hat trick. We play Seven Hills on Sunday for the first time this year who are fifth on the ladder and we need to improve going into the last three games before the finals. Fran
