3 Match Reports week ending 28 August 2011 Under 6, Group 3 James Kilgour Knockout Comp 21/8/11 After the Gala day the week before, we came into the knockout comp feeling a little confident. First up we had the hosts, Lalor Park, but after a few minutes the score had blown out & it became a tryathon, winning this one Game 2 saw us up against Moorebank Rams, an unknown quantity from this far north, the score should have been a lot closer but the Rams knocked on 3 times over the line. With some solid defence from all the boys & Grayson, Daniel & Jy all scoring tries we ran out victors 20-4, a great win to give us 2 from 2. Game 3 & it looked as though we may have a chance to get to the quarters, but the Rouse Hill Rhinosaurus turned up with 2 teams rolled into 1 & on the smaller than normal field we struggled with our normal attacking runs & the bigger lads were hard to stop from scoring. We went down a gallant They were a division 1 team & we had them nervous til just after half time when they ran away with it. A superb effort from all our boys. A big thanks to Koby & Keegan for adding some strength in defence & again all the mums & dads for making it a great day, our boys will be much tougher for the hit out. Friday night was Parra Stadium, to finish off what has been a great year. The boys were very excited and had an excellent time playing before the Parra v Roosters game and then again in the half time break in front of a crowd of 12,000. All the lads really enjoyed themselves, making some great tackles & scoring plenty of points against Rouse Hill. Congratulations also go to Jesiah, who scored his first try of the season. Great job boys. Last of all, a big thank you to Steve, Felice & Damian for all your help and for making it a very enjoyable first year as coach & manager. To all the mums & dads, great job & we hope to see you again next year. Heidi, you did a fantastic job too, thankyou for co-ordinating everyone. Go the Tigers!!! Bruce & Heidi Under 9, Division 2 Weekend of rest (Grand Finalists) Under 10, Division 2 AST Tigers 22 vs. Kellyville 6 After putting in such a huge game against Wenty the week before the boys were entitled to be a bit flat, but not these boys they came out firing led by Matty, Des, and the always dangerous Braithen. Kellyville were never allowed to get into this game, strong defensive efforts from Brad and Harrison see us go into the Grand Final with confidence. Well done boys on a great year, and win, lose or draw this Saturday you have done yourselves proud. Jason
4 Under 12, Division 3 AST Tigers 20 vs. Canley Heights 16 Well guys we did it. We made the grand final. What a great game with the result coming down to the wire. Jake with the great solo effort from dummy half with two minutes to go got us home. There was not a bad performance from any one, little Connor putting his body on the line in defence. Big Connor running like the Connor of old, Aaron was great again organising the team and tackling his heart out. Ashton s defence and attack was great. Lochie made some great charges and Ben was his reliable self in defence and attack. Griffin lifted his game to a new level taking out man of the match. Centres Rhys and Daniel R were great all match. Jake lifted his game again and never stopped trying. Tyson gave a great service from dummy half. Our bench Simon and Riley were great when they went on the second half. Nathan threatened and nearly got a couple of tries. I personally would like to thank the team for their great effort and let s win one more game. Last, what a crowd, the cheering from the sideline was fantastic. All the parents and the great support from the people with no children in the team were fantastic. Let s hope we get as many supporters this time round. When I gave the talk at the end of the game, I looked up and could not believe how many people were there. Thank you from Warren and myself. Thanks to Rob for running the water what a good omen 3 games 3 wins. One game to go boys and no matter what happens hold your head high because you guys have had a great season. Mark, Warren, Rob and Danielle Under 16, Division 2 AST Tigers 30 vs. Mounties 14 No Report Submitted C Grade AST Tigers 22 vs. Wentworthville 12 Well guys we are now in the Grand Final, how nice was last Sundays lunch, black & white mag "pie" Good game - let s see a repeat in our next game. Go Tigers Todd,Spike,Steve,Joshie & Billows
5 A Grade AST Tigers 38 vs. Guildford 4 Great win for a semi final, however we need to raise our intensity a lot more for the up and coming Grand Final. It took us a while to put Guildford "to the sword" but in the end it turned out a comfortable victory. We had a try disallowed early and that led to a lapse in concentration allowing Guildford to post first points with a fairly soft try but after a "spray in the in-goal by captain Davy Pinder the boys got their noses back to the grindstone and outplayed Guildford in all areas. We went to half time with a slim 10 points to 4 lead but I was confident that we would run away with it in the second half, which is exactly what happened. We again had an issue with penalties early in the game, some of which left me astounded, but the man with the whistle is never wrong, although you have to wonder why we can make so many transgressions when the opposition makes none at all, maybe it s our enthusiasm in defence? As has been the case in most of our games every player made good contributions to the win but in this game Luke Bubb was a stand-out and clearly won the player of the match award. We had a couple of big head clashes in the game leaving two of our key players, Richard (Spike) Powers and Alex(Granite) Fonti with faces only a mother could kiss, but they will be right for next game. We need to be on the job 100% of the time in the Grand Final, because we believe "The Merrylands Mystery Team" will win through to be our opponent and they will present us with a much tougher task, but we are up for it and we are confident without being over confident. After the win, we became The Tigers sixth team into the Grand final this year which is a fantastic effort and I believe a record since the 2 clubs merged, so good luck to all the teams involved. Go Tooney! Bill
