We stayed at Camp Cooriemungle which the students absolutely loved. The staff were amazing and accommodating, meals sensational and the activities they had planned for the students were educational and exciting. I am sure the parents have heard many stories and all the students faced some challenging tasks, which many of them overcame fears and felt very proud afterwards (including Mrs Turner). A huge thank you must go to Mr Bruce for giving up his time to transport students and be part of the camp for the entire time. Thank you to Mr Moodley, Jane, Suesan and Sam who manned the fort while we were away. Late last week Mr Moodley made the decision that he and Ishaan are city men and plan to move back there over the school holidays. We would like to thank him for all the work he has done with the students and wish him and his family all the best for their next venture. Also with a very heavy heart I would like to inform you all that I received some very sad news from the Bruce family this week also. Julie has been offered an amazing job opportunity in Horsham and they have made the decision to move back there. As well all know both Steve and Julie are heavily involved in our school and wider community. When they moved to Apsley nearly five years ago now, we quickly secured Steve as a teacher and Julie happily got involved. Steve has been employed here ever since and has been a great support to me. Julie has also had a huge influence on our students over the years, teaching them cyber safety, participating in special days, being part of our MATES program and constantly reassuring me that I am doing a great job and creating a positive school culture, promoting us in the wider community. Recently becoming grandparents has also influenced their decision and that is completely understandable. Mr Bruce will see out the tenure of his contract until the end of the year.

2 The students all participated in our annual sports day on Monday. The weather was kind to us, even if it was a little chilly! It was fantastic to see all the students trying their best and cheering the fellow team mates on. Congratulations to Ballantyne for winning the event on the day narrowly by Clarke. Our boy champion this year was Damon Grigg and our girl champion was Sienna Chamberlain. To be eligible to win this medallion you must be in grades 5 or 6. A huge thank you goes to Mr Bruce, Mr Moodley, Sam for their constant help and to the parents for stepping in also and helping run an event. To Brad, Phil and Nick thank you for marking the lines on the oval, to Phil and Alan for having the grounds prepared beautifully and thank you to those who assisted in preparing and making lunch. It was wonderful to see so many parents, grandparents and community members coming along to cheer the students on, who showed true sportsmanship. As the newsletter is being written the students are in Edenhope for the Kowree Sports. I am sure all our students will give the events their best shot and enjoy the day. The Night of the Notables is this Wednesday for students in years 3-6. They have been busy preparing their presentation. They have sent out invitations to significant others that they would like to attend. If you have any concerns about what your child needs to bring on the night please feel free to contact me. Students should have been having these conversations with their parents for a few weeks now. Thank you to everyone who returned their uniform survey. Option two seems to be the favourite. The next stage of ordering and processing will be begin. Happy Father s Day to all our fathers out there! Hope you enjoy a sleep in and a beautiful breakfast cooked by your family. Tanya Turner Parent Club News The next Parent Club meeting is on Wednesday 12th 7.00 at the Border Inn. There are a few pending issues to discuss and some decisions need to be made in relation to the Slide purchase. Apologies to Paula Ellul. Hope to see you all there! Here at Apsley Primary, we are constantly amazed by the people in our community that are willing to help us out. So Thank You to Stephen Hocking for taking the time to spread our ovals with super. To the McGinty s for suppling the super. To Mr Jim Jasper for donating a chicken coop for the school and to Brad for going to pick this up from Mt Gambier. Mr Gary McGinty for checking on our calves regularly and bringing in pellets for them. Transition Year Six The students in year six had their first transition afternoon on Tuesday and from all reports they had a great time. Originally they were meant to have one next week, but this has been postponed until further notice. Night of the Notables Students in years 3-6 have been preparing for this night since the start of term. Each student will need to bring from home: * Props for their table - 4 * A food that is connected to their Notable. * Dress Up as their Notable School Council Members Fiona Misson is travelling to Apsley to do some training with us. Please try and come along on Tuesday 5pm.

3 A date to definitely put on your calendar. Maybe try your hand at cooking a pav and entering it in the competition? Want to go for a helicopter ride over the area? Do you have an old vehicle or piece of farm machinery you could enter in our street parade? What about organising a float for your district or organisation? Do you have a dog that could compete in the dog jumping challenge or a sprint race? Why not organise a table of ten to come to the town hall on Saturday night and dance the night away to Johnny Thunder and The Lightings. 4 Junior We had sports day on Monday. My favourite part was high jump. The team who won was Ballantyne. Sophie made a speech. By Aaron On sports day the teams got together, Clarke and Ballantyne. I liked the long jump. I liked the sausages. By Lily-Rose I like doing long throw. On sports day we did high jump, sprints, long throw, target throw and long jump. In my high jump I jumped 75 cm By Tyler On Monday is was sports day. We did high jump, long throw and relay run. On throw you throw the ball to 28 metres or to the person in front of you. On high jump you jump the bar but you have to do scissor kick By Olly By Eli I liked doing the running race. By Chloe I like doing high jump By Elijah I liked doing long jump at the sports day.
