1 2018, August 22 nd ' Hello Everyone, Talk about it Parent Information Session Years 5/6 students will be participating in the Talk about it program during week 8. Information has gone home to parents. The presenter will be doing an information session for parents on Tuesday 4 th September at 3.15 at the Main Campus. For parents of the years 5/6 students who would like more information on this program, please feel free to attend on this date and ask any questions you may have. No Tuckshop This Week A reminder - there will be no tuckshop this week. Social-Emotional Focus: Giving Advice Giving advice means trying to help another person with a solution that you think can solve a problem. Advice may also be called for when you think someone is going to do something wrong, or make a mistake, and you want to help them avoid doing it. Camp Draft What a big weekend at the Camp Draft! A big thank you to everyone who helped out by cooking, donating or volunteering their time. Some volunteers had a long week in preparation and a long weekend preparing and serving food. We are lucky to have such amazing helpers at our school! Opti-Minds Good luck to our students competing in Opti-Minds this Sunday! Our students will also be performing at the Seniors Lunch in Sarina on Thursday. We hope this is a good practice for them performing in front of a crowd. We wish them the best of luck at both these exciting opportunities. Miss Leah Mullane - Principal Having a Ball As we are half way through term 3, the students are really developing their abilities in a range of fundamental movement skills. The Prep/1 s are improving their ability to throw, catch and to dribble a basketball and soccer ball. The Year 1/2's are improving distance and accuracy in the fundamental movement skills of instep passing, punt kicking and one hand striking. The Year 3/4 s are having a ball in their unit of developing catching and a range of passes and using these to solve offensive and defensive challenges in Newcombe ball. Finally the Year 5/6 s are mixing it up in their All Codes Football unit which develops all the skills in a combination of Netball, Australian Rules Football and Soccer. 2 . **************************************************************************************************************** P&C News Congratulations Swayneville families on an AMAZING weekend! For most of us non-campdraft people, it's hard to understand how special the Blue Mountain Campdraft is for all the competitors who travel there for the third weekend in August each year. There's no doubt it's due in part to the beautiful scenic setting, the down-to- Earth Blue Mountain Campdraft Committee who run the three-day event and the relaxed, friendly atmosphere which is enjoyed by all over the weekend. But this year it was so obvious to me that our school community plays a huge role in what makes Blue Mountain Campdraft special in their eyes, and why the Committee are so thankful to have us there each year providing the food for the weekend. The delicious range and high quality of home cooked hot meals, baking and desserts are only found at Blue Mountain Campdraft, and because of our affordable prices it means that families who would usually take all their own food, cooking equipment and the kitchen sink to a campdraft, will leave it home when heading to Blue Mountain for the weekend. It's not hard to imagine how thankful the campdrafting mums are to come to Blue Mountain knowing that we've taken care of the cooking for them. While the planning for this catering event starts early July, the real fun begins on Friday afternoon when volunteers start arriving for the Friday night dinner shift, and every volunteer turned up with a slow cooked meal or two under their arm. Before long, the two car loads of hot meals, baking and desserts turn up from "down the hill", and the task of quickly unloading and sorting them all begins. For those of us "stuck up here on the range" it was plain to see that our Main Campus friends were sending up their love and support - in the form of biccies, slices, cakes, cupcakes, desserts, beef and chicken hot meals. As volunteers came and went and came back again, and stayed and did extra shifts, it was great to see the laughter and friendships grow over the course of the weekend. A few jokes kept the happy vibes going, everyone was in high spirits, and the customers were very pleased with their meals. A message from one campdraft competitor and Blue Mountain Committee family member Jessie Bethel sums up our success perfectly: "to the whole team who did the catering... just wanted to message and Thankyou for the wonderful meals all weekend, you put in such a huge effort and the meals were beautiful!!! Can't beat home cooking. Blue Mountain wouldn't be the same without you!! Well done... incredible effort and a very special draft... hope you're able to have a well deserved break!!" So, thank you to all the Swayneville School P&C members and whole school community for helping in every way possible to make catering at this event a tremendous success. The support of so many people shows how generous and giving our school families are, and whether you are able to give a little or a lot, it all combines to show that even as a small school split over two campuses, together we can do very great things. Photos and more details will be in next week's newsletter. While the bulk of slow cookers and containers were taken back to the main campus on Monday, the remaining items will be available for collection by Friday afternoon. 4 Heave Ho Off We Ho On Monday morning we were entertained by the Arts Council visit called "Heave Ho Off We Go." Congratulations to Amen Mooney who came 1st place in High Jump at Capricornia. Amen will now be moving on to compete against the best in the state in Cairns. Students were shown some awesome magic tricks that included the use of birds, guinea pigs, cards, dice, ropes and rings. Audience participation was high with a number of students asked to help in the tricks. Congratulations to Bodhi Rowe-Bailey who was awarded an Academic Scholarship to Mackay State High School.
