1 GORMANDALE & DISTRICT PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Principal Christine Robinson Web site: Phone Mobile: Fax Tuesday 24th May 2016 Camp reminder Students need to bring food and drink for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea tomorrow. All other meals will be supplied. A notice went home yesterday regarding the bus time. In case you didn t see this, we will be leaving tomorrow at 8.30am from the school and returning to the school on Friday at about 2.15pm. If you would like, the students can stay at school and join in on assembly so you don t have to do two trips. Bus Run Due to the lack of interest in the breakfast program we will move the bus pick up times back to normal (10mins later than at the moment). The new times will start next Monday (30th of May). Soaring to great heights Name:... Grade 5/6 Fundraiser On Friday the grade 5/6 s will be making some hot chocolate to save up for the grade 6 graduation. We will be making it in a slow cooker. It will only be a practice run but after this week (only for grade 5/6 student) it will be available to purchase every Friday lunchtime after next week. We still have to figure out the price of it by working out the quantities and prices of ingredients. The students will send out a flyer with more information next week. Thank you to ROCO for supplying our school with old tractor tyres which the Parents Club have turned into great garden beds for our Vegie Garden. PARENTS CLUB Thanks everyone who supported this term's Wood Raffle. Congratulations to the Thexton Family for winning the trailer load of wood. A special thanks to Fred for offering to get the trailer load of wood, yet again for the Parent's Club, we appreciate your support and hard work. On Monday afternoon the Parent's Club held a working bee to set up the veggie garden in Grannie's Grove. Thanks to all those that helped out and donated items for the garden. We are all looking forward to seeing what veggies the kids will be growing over the next few months.

2 Working Bee Thank you to the parents (Steph, Kerry, Peta and Elle) for preparing the tyre for our new vegetable patch and filling them with fresh dirt. Red cordial We have had several issues with red cordial being spilt on the carpet in the classroom. Yesterday the Grade 2/3 classroom carpet resembled a flood the water that was needed to get the cordial stain out of the carpet was quite substantial. I therefore ask that red cordial is not sent to school. Grade 6 students raising funds to Graduate The casual clothes day last week was the first of several activities that the Grade 6 students will be a part of this year to help raise money for their graduation celebrations at the end of the year. Usually Parents Club purchase each child a rose and pay for them to visit either ten pin bowling or Jump and Climb. This year the responsibility for this lies with the Grade 6 students. In advance - thank you for your support. Commonwealth Banking Program A little more information for you regarding the Commonwealth Banking Program. The program is completely optional, students will be rewarded for every deposit they make (it can be as small as 5c). The idea of the program is to get them to save on a regular basis. Some Apps we use in the classroom Apps there are several really good apps we use in the classrooms, especially the Prep/1 classroom. Most of these are free however some are paid apps. They are definitely worth the money though. These 10 apps are just a small sample of the ones we use in the classrooms. I will share more in future newsletters. 6 Fun day Junior School Council organized this fabulous fun day. Thank you parents for the cupcakes, lollies, popcorn and more. We had loads of delicious treats for children to purchase. The casual clothes we raised $69.40c towards Grade 6 graduation & roses. The stalls we had were cupcakes lollies and popcorn stall, another cupcake stall, a Wii, lollies, toys and a book stall. The kinder kids also came over and joined in the fun and were able to purchase a couple of cupcakes to take back over with them. We also used play money so that everybody could have the same amount of money which was $105 each. This was great as everyone got to buy things. The people running the stall also work out who made the most money throughout the whole day. We had a Jelly Bean guess competition and the person who won was Tyler Foster.

7 SCHOOL ACTION LIST Parents if you can help with some of the jobs below please let us know. We want to get on top of a few of these jobs before Winter. Completed Door Repair the door frames are metal. We have one door which is not closing properly. It has been filed out once before and we feel it will need to be filed again. It appears the latch is not clicking in properly. Clean out the two drain pits outside Lexie s room at the back of the school. These are full of leaves and with winter upon us they need to be cleaned out. Completed Thanks Peta Thexton Completed Thanks Peta Thexton & Mrs Robbo Clean away dirt from drain. - There is a small build up of soil near the drain at the hardcourt area at the rear of the school. This is stopping water from escaping the hardcourt area. This is a small job. Pressure Washer Work We would like the undercover area to be cleaned The school owns a pressure washer and so all we need is the manpower to clean this area. General Gardening some plants need to be pruned and given just a general tidy up Plants outside the grounds in the car park need a heavy cut back Plants just inside the front gate need old dead foliage removed Thin out Agapanthus around the path at the front of the school. There is a threat that they will lift up the concrete path. They were thinned out several years ago but have become quite large. Please see Christine or Tricia. Completed Thanks to Parents Club Spread Dirt there is a garden bed just outside the staff room window which has had a load of dirt put in it. This needs to be spread out so that the children can plant flowers in it. The pansy seedlings are almost ready to be planted out.
