2 Principal s Report Curriculum day Friday 10th August is a student free day. Teachers will be attending a Network Professional Development day in at Swan Hill College and Swan Hill Primary Schools. Extravaganza Congratulations and well done to every student who braved their nerves and performed magnificently on the Town Hall stage on Tuesday. We are all so proud of each and every one of you. Thank you to Miss Martin for introducing and teaching our fantastic choir. Miss Ingram for everything you did to organise our music and brilliant dances with Jaimee Kiel. To Mrs Barb and all the staff for working with our students. Also a big thank you to Parents Club for organising the canteen and to those parents that volunteered and helped, we thank you. MacKillop Performance On Thursday 16th August the whole school will be attending the MacKillop College performance of Mary Poppins. We will be leaving school at 10:15am and returning by 1:30pm. There is no charge for this performance as the bus is being subsidised from Equity money. A permission form is included in today s Newsletter. THERE WILL BE NO SAUSAGE SIZZLE ON THIS DAY. Book Week On Friday 24th August for Book Week we will be holding a Book Week Dress Up Day. Please come dressed as a character from your favourite book ready for the parade. Last year was amazing so lets see if we can make it better this year. Look out for what the staff have in store!!! On Thursday we had some of our 2019 preps come for come and try. They enjoyed experiencing School life and settled in quickly. Hopefully some more of our 2019 Preps will be able to come along and join in the fun. Prep 2019 If anyone knows of any Preps for 2019 who haven t enrolled as yet could you please ask them to contact the school as we are trying to finalise numbers. 4 We versed Lake Boga/ Beverford last Wednesday night. We took the kick off with Vetaya in goals. Thomas was defending very well. Vetaya making a super save jamming his legs together for a brilliant wall. Thomas reading the play perfectly with a superb intercept. Spectacular play by both teams passing, saving and great teamwork. Marshal with a super goal high into the corner of the net after some fantastic teamwork. Josh playing like a superstar showing persistence and determination. Vetaya was a ball magnet with the ball just attracted to him so he could deflect it away. Isis took the goalie top in the second half. Marshal with a very controlled goal shortly into the second half. He took it for a run down the wing, dodging and weaving and slotted it from out near the sideline. Sharni with a great defensive deflection away from the goal. We were really under the pump defensively with Lake Boga/ Beverford applying a lot of pressure. Everyone was playing brilliantly. Marshal with a bit of pace and an atomic blast of a kick from the defensive quarter saw the goalie fumble it over the line. The final score was 3-5 with the game very close until Lake Boga/ Beverford getting a couple of quick goals in the last five minutes. We had the bye this week and next week we play Swan Hill Primary at 6:45pm. Josh and Sharni have the bye. 100 Reading Nights in Terms 1 and 2 Congratulations to the following students for achieving 100 nights or above in reading for terms 1 and 2. It is very important for your child to read each night as this improves their skills for all learning. PREP Kohen, Hannah, Taylor and Jayllum Grade 1 Anique, Blake, Byron, Domenic, Kyuss, Miley, Matilda, Regan, Talia and Zach Grade 2 Zoe, Xanthe, Aiden, Angus, George, Malika, Tom and Xavier Grades 3 & 4 Frankie, Breanna, Jaz, Shaun, Holden, Calyssa, Oliver, Jarrah, Stuart, Catherine, Aiden, Thyler, Isabella and Eddie Grades 5 & 6 Sean, Isis, Vetaya, Sienna,Emilie, Phasinee, Derren, Olivia, Violet and Thomas FLYING BOOKWORM On Wednesday the Preps and Pre schoolers enjoyed a performance from Ebony and Chris. Students had fun joining in, getting dressed up and being characters from different stories.
5 REGIONAL SOCCER Congratulations to our combined small schools soccer team who performed to the best of their ability yesterday at Regional level. Coach Caity gathered the team for a quick pep talk before their first game against Bendigo s Quarry Hill unfortunately going down (Quarry Hill ended up in the Grand Final). The team kept their heads held high going into round two against Echuca, another tough side, however scored our first goal for the day. We moved into round three with our goalie Ethan, determined to keep the score low. Sean with his fancy foot work worked the ball around the field to help score our second goal for the day. However even with no wins on the board, our team stood proud of our achievements and are ready to do it all again next year!! This was an awesome achievement as none of the small schools have got to this stage for a very long time. We are all proud of you. FRESH DAFFODIL SALE Friday 24th of August 2018 is Daffodil day throughout Australia. The daffodil is the international symbol of hope for all those affected by cancer. Hope for a cure, hope for improved treatment and hope for more survivors. Fresh Daffodils will be sold to raise money to support local Swan Hill Cancer Groups. Students and staff can order a single fresh daffodil for $1.00 or a bunch of ten for $8.00 and help support our local groups. Orders need to be back to the school by Monday August 20th The fresh daffodils will be delivered to the school on Friday 25th of August. Order forms have been sent home in today s Newsletter. Thank you for your support in this great cause. ATHLETIC SPORTS We have been very busy training for the upcoming Athletic Sports. The Athletic Sports are being held on Tuesday 4th September at the Ken Harrison Reserve. For new families it is the parents responsibility to take your child/ren to and from this event. Students need to be at the Ken Harrison Reserve (back oval) by 8:30am so they can get their cards pinned on and be ready for the first event at 9:00am. The day will end at approximately 2:30pm after the presentations. It is a school day and all students are expected to attend. It is a great day to come along and encourage your child/ren to achieve their best in the eight events they will participate in throughout the day. Parents Club are providing catering on the day. A roster will be sent home soon. We are in charge of the overall running of the day, high jump and distance run. If you are able to help out this would be great. We need as many helpers as possible.
